What Is There to Like About CatDog? 

I'm happy to see more positive review about CatDog nowadays,because this is definitely a very underrated show for sure. I mean,i know that the cruelty of the show can be a bit infuriating at times and many of the show characters can certainly be quite annoying,but this is still in a way,a very creative and funny show for sure. And it's cool to see an old Nicktoon with a more realistic tone and formate than others at the time.

Now I am a hardcore CatDog fan But I feel like some people miss the point of the show ,like The main reason why most of the side characters are jerk is Because we ‘The audience, Are supposed to Not Like Winslow,The greaser and rancid. To me it like saying Rugrats is a bad show because Angelica is Mean to the babies.

I really want you to do El Tigre!! I feel like that show deserves all the love and appreciation it DEFINITELY needs.

This used to be one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. I rewatched a couple episodes a while back and was shocked by how utterly mean-spirited it actually was; I don't remember it feeling that way at all.

I love catdog! Especially cat played by our Oso favorite, Jim cummings! In fact there's a lot of great talent on the show with Billy West and Tom Kenny the name a few! I do admit that the show did have a mean-spirited feel to poor cat only because dog rarely ever got his comeuppance... but I still enjoy the show and even bought the box set! I really enjoyed its theatrical short with good burger and still love the series to this day❤

CatDog I think is just fine. I feel the level of Mean is overblown by some as it was goofy enough for me to get through it fine when I re-watched through it a whole back. Poparena gave me more appreciation for it honestly. My issue is that it's mostly standard and usually doesn't add too much new to the formula. My easy least favorite was Tresspassing while my favorite was the silent episode. It's fine, more to like than given credit for but nothing great either. The production history really put a target on it lol.

Great and well-thought-out review! CatDog was one of my favorite childhood shows growing up. And while I still like it, I won't deny that it hasn't aged well in some aspects. (Particularly the characters) I'd make the argument that SB, Hey Arnold!, & Rocko have aged FAR better nowadays.

Personally, I don't mind the show's malicious humor. I believe the heightened criticism Catdog is receiving now stems from our familiarity with the more wholesome programs of the 2010s, like Steven Universe.

Even on the rare occasions when they lost, CatDog and the other characters rarely, if ever, came out unscathed, and if someone got the upper hand on them, the Greasers always managed to turn things in their favor and win anyway. The best way to not make antagonistic characters too despicable is to make sure that they never, ever win. This, primarily, is why Squidward and Mr. Krabs worked so much better as antagonists; any attempts they made to confound SpongeBob and his friends always backfired and they ultimately became victims of their own doing(This was most notable in such episodes as Naughty Nautical Neighbors, Employee of the Month and One Krab's Trash). One candidate I might likewise might put forth as an honorable mention for worst episode is The Golden Hydrant as it was just one long running bathroom joke(But that didn't stop there from being a video game based on it. Oh no.) XC

To me, cruelty in this hardly turns me off. When you study history and learn of atrocities, what CatDog went through is hardly disgusting or disturbing, no more so than what you learn when learning about black or native american history. I personally saw Rancid as how authority can be cruel and abuse its power to further its greed and convenience. It will abuse those low socially and different either for fun or to reassert power.

Thanks for the review. CatDog is one of my fav cartoons honestly. It's definitely an acquired taste. As a kid I saw a documentary about people living with debilitating conditions like cerebral palsy once, and was fascinated how people can live like that. CatDog being conjoined grabbed kid me lol. Cat was my favourite, whenever I had a bad day at school it did make me feel a bit better to see him being bullied too, the point of CatDog to me was to feel pity for them. The lyrics are Alone in the world was a little CatDog, after all. With that said I hated the teeth episode (turning inside out) and the tree growing out of Dog's head. They were just cruel. My favourite was the episode where Dog buys a stuffed cat doll.

People complained about "The Brothers Flub" being mean-spirited too.

in some ways catdog reminded me of some of the old looney tunes cartoons.

It was fine. I watched it growing up but there were Nicktoons I liked even better though like Angry Beavers, Rocko, etc. The craziest thing about this show was execs at the time thought it was gonna be like what SpongeBob became. I also remember a “cat attached to a dog” gag in an old Bob Clampett short so I always thought that was supposed to be the inspiration for this show.

Eek the Cat is another kind of cynical cartoon involving a cat in it that does it better and of course Rocko's Modern Life does that stuff better too.

Unpopular opinion: CatDog is a great cartoon.

I never thought the show was bad at all. In fact, the stuff that the critics complain about like the mean-spirited tone are quite tame by today’s standards.

As much as I love Spongebob, it has ton of mean-spirited humor and I don't get why the cartoon community doesn't really address it. Spongebob was high-key cruel asf to Sandy in the earlier seasons. Patrick is mean asf towards Spongebob. The residents of Bikini Bottom hate Spongebob, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs to the point where the five of them almost feel like outcasts. They'll be minding their business and one of the background characters would verbally or physically abuse them for literally no reason.

I typically don't mind a meanspirited tone or mean spirited humor but the one meanspirited thing I can't watch is Rick and Morty. It's not funny all. There was one episode where Beth and Jerry said they wish they never had Summer? What's the joke? This is just dreary. Everything else I am totally down for. I am a huge fan of American Dad and Family Guy.

I don't have that many memories of CatDog, but mean-spirited is something I've never enjoyed (I'm pretty no one enjoys that.) Unless it's deserved or justified, it's not a fun time.

CatDog in my opinion is always one of the best Nicktoons, I loved how it is a more cynical view on the world. And I relate to both Cat and Dog as well too, mainly Cat I relate to most. And they are not the only ones to not succeed at many things, I don't succeed at many things either but I still live my life just like CatDog still live their lives even though they don't win a lot and neither do I.

CatDog is notable for its cruel humor and bleak setting, with many stories involving bad things happening to characters who don't deserve it, making it one of the more polarizing Nicktoons. Nevertheless, it has a dedicated following of nostalgic fans.
