What it's really like to be Fully Grey at 30 ✨ Natural Grey Hair since age 13 

I think people dig for negative stories because they're looking for a heroic character who triumphed over their bullies. If they can tell a story about someone who overcame their struggles, it can be held up for others to inspire. Unfortunately, there often aren't enough bad stories to use without becoming repetitive, so they have to dig deeper for more bad or, heaven forbid, make it up or embellish. It is a real shame.people can't just be inspired by hearing that people are already supportive or don't bully. You'd think that would be a good thing, but I guess people can't live without drama lol.

It's so strange to me that people would be looking so hard for "negative" stories about your hair. When I was a kid, I always wanted to go gray super young like a friend of mine did! 😂🤷‍♀️ It looked cool.

My grandmother was pale grey/white by age 30! And her husband never found a single grey hair until age 90. They were cute couple haha

I was somehow bullied for my gray hair, but I was in my 40s. People kept telling me that I should dye my hair and that I was being sloppy, lazy and negligent by NOT dyeing it.

I don't use permanent hair color ever since I started getting grays because I see it as a sign of wisdom, I'm only 29. I absolutely love your hair and that is what brought me to your channel but I stuck around for your personality and content 💚 keep making the world smile and sharing your excitement for life!

This is so nice to hear :) for me it's not genetics, but I've been through a ton of stress in my early 20s and started finding my first grey hairs at age 22/23. No matter how I part my hair, there is always a hand full of grey hairs. My natural colour is dark blonde so people keep telling me you can't see it until you get very close and look at my hair specifically. But I can see it and I'm very aware of it. It feels weird, like, I'm not upset about it? But I am quite focused on it whenever I remember while parting my hair or something. It's strange to look at. Not negative strange, but i can't stop looking for it, separating a grey one out to experience the different texture it has, etc. It's different from the first 20 years of my life. But it's subtle enough that I haven't exactly "gotten used to it" over the past 2 years. Idk, I would love to talk about my grey hair, because talking about stuff is how I sort my thoughts and connect to people. But when I bring it up everyone is so quick to dismiss it. It's always either older family members telling me it's nothing compared to their grey hair, or people saying nobody can tell so it's fine. Is it so much to ask that I just wanna talk about it, neutrally? Imagine any other neutral topic like idk what show you watched recently and people go "oh don't worry soon you won't think about it anymore" or "nobody can tell that you watched it so you're good :)". I just want to engage with it the same way I engage with every minor change in my life, by sharing with my friends and family.

People want to hear the bad stories because they recognise that you look as different as they've felt at some points, and they want to be validated that it's hard to be different. That it wasn't just them.

I think we just love to hear about drama in other people's lives. The point mentioned below, that negativity sells, ties into this. We want to be shocked and aghast, we want to be able to feel like we have the moral highground by either publicly or privately condemning the aggressor or sympathising with the victim. It's a form of entertainment. I would call it sick if I wasn't convinced that it's deeply ingrained in human nature. PS: I would love to enhance this little graph of yours somehow, but unfortunately I'm already happily subscribed.

Negativity does sell more, it's why the internet is full of nasty content. It reminded me of a Le Guin quote “The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. This is the treason of the artist: a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain.” It's basically the same, only watered down. Personally I love how your greys look and I wish mine would come in faster.

This video is amazing.❤ Finally someone i can connect, i am currently going through the same thing. Due to genetics, mine started graying at 15 and now most of my hair is grey. I'm just in my early 20's and people older than me has started advising me all sorts of things. I haven't dyed it yet. Although I have gotten bullied for my grayed strands when i was in my high school and now people just look at me with pity for it. I don't wanna dye my hair as it is not advisable for my hair type and using chemicals would only lead to further damage and more white strands. People like you are so inspirational❤❤

I adore your hair, and am even a little jealous! As a young child, I remember seeing my grandmother's hair as she was starting to turn silver and I asked her about it, and she said "We get sparklers in our hair" and I just thought that was so fabulous. The women in my family (particularly from my maternal side) start off golden blonde, darken to various stages of brunette (at 27 I'm just now coming out of my sandyblonde and into a more mousey brown) and then we start to get silver fairly late, depending. I personally cannot wait until I start to sparkle, and I make a point to tell all of the older ladies I meet that I love their hair, because I think is beautiful. You can tell when they haven't heard it in a long time because they seem to always be so surprised. Perhaps it's just because I live within the US, but it seems like there's a negative association with age and going grey and older women being undesirable. I can see media outlets (if not looking for the underdog overcoming obstacles trope they so love) would want to see how "going grey" would affect (particularly young women and girls) people who are in that "prime of life" where they are considered most (aesthetically) valuable by society.

I didn't go white as early as you did, finding my first white hairs when I was 20 years old. My dad immediately started saying I should dye it. I told him I wouldn't because I'd then be doing it forever and it cost a lot of money. Besides, I had two great aunts with silver hair, so I knew what I was in for. I'm 61 now and had full coverage for a couple of decades or so. (I was really sad when I no longer had a dark stripe in my ponytail.) "Grey" isn't just a trendy color among those dying their hair. I'm seeing more and more women let their hair grow naturally, which is fabulous. My children, both in their early 20s, have a lot of white hair. One has a streak coming in along the temple and the other has it scattered throughout. And, thankfully, they think it's cool. Thank you for your content. I love your hair. I admire the length!! I found my first gray in my 40’s and I tried to bleach and cover them. Until 2020, when I decided to allow my gray to come out and now, I’m starting to see more and I’m so excited about my gray! So relatable O-O I'm also going gray at 30 and as a kid with lots of gray hair, I never got told anything mean. It was only when I got to my twenties that some older women (who I believe might have been upset with they're own graying situation) told me I would look more beautiful if I dyed my hair. It made me a bit upset, and I even dyed my hair crazy colors sometimes, but now that I am turning 32, I'm totally fine with the way my hair is (color and texture wise).

Thank you for your videos. I have been slowing growing greys in my hair since I turned 23 and it has been such an insecurity of mine. I am 28 now and the greys have increased drastically, which left me feeling very upset and feeling quite old and ugly. After seeing your videos and how beautiful and confident you are, I now feel more confident to allow my greys to grow out and hopefully I will learn to love them! Lots of love from Australia! ♥️

I hear ya, I used to hate people finding out I was separated and a single mom as they'd only focus on the negative or want to tell me about something they were annoyed about the husband they still had 🙈 I used to avoid that type ... life is hard enough without focusing on the negative. A positive or funny chat is always worth so much more 🌼 maybe people seek the negative about hair colour because they want to hear there was a backlash for not following the prescribed norm, maybe they want to hear it wasn't the easy option to stand apart and do your own thing? Who knows 🌼🌸🌼 embracing grey has really gained popularity over lockdown and wearing less make up 💗💗

I think your hair is stunning. Mine started graying at 19, but a couple of weeks after my heart attack in my early 30's it went snow white except for a strip in the front center. Lol. I shaved my head when I was 42 and have grown it out since 2017 until now and it's just just past my waste. I have the exact same hair regime as you and thankfully no split ends...

I could care less. I love my long hair - not as long as your knee lenghth hair, but mine is past my bottom. Anyways - I've decided to embrace going gray. I think it's beautiful, personally.

I am jealous, myself. I’m 37 and just now have enough grey hairs to call it “going grey”. And I’m so excited. The women on my mom’s side have grey hair like yours…different tints and tones. Gorgeous. They also have a white streak at the front and I’ve been obsessing over whether it mostly comes in there first (it has cross fingers). My mom dyed hers until she was almost fully grey and then just stopped. I’m guessing that was when she was early 40s. I won’t be dyeing mine. I’ll look excellent with it. I rarely write anything in the comment section but I just wanted to do so after seeing your video. I have to say that I love the gray/silver-ish coloured hair. In fact, when I was 15 I used to dream of having gray hair. Now that I'm 19, my goal is - I have long hair already reaching the top of my legs - to let them grow knee length and keep them long till the day they start to become gray, because long hair is what I like, and I would like to enjoy the pleasure of having a long beautiful braid of gray hair although my age. About negativity, I think it attracts people because they're not used to singularity in general - being showed in your clothes, hair, manner of life, morals, thoughts, etc - and they find it original and bold in some positive way to be able to assume this singular difference(s). So they often ask about negative remarks because they think singularity attracts nasty comments, and also because if they were in the same situation, that's what they would fear. But a fear is nothing but a mental projection of a negative thought, so by asking about negativity, it's like wanting to confirm those fears. And I also think there can be a part of concern in this, like checking if it didn't bring you any bad experiences.

I think your hair looks absolutely beautiful! Also my family calls this salt and pepper hair, and I think it’s just amazing to see family history show through.

Your hair looks gorgeous! Don't ever dye it. I remember once many, many years ago watching a daytime talk show that would sometimes do makeovers on volunteer audience members. (They had a live audience.) So this one lady with grey hair volunteered to have her hair dyed and get a new outfit. The "hair expert" kept going on and on about how old this lady looked with her grey hair and that it dragged down her looks. They dyed her hair a light reddish brown and the host, the "hair expert," and the audience were all oohing and aahing about how young she now looked. But to me the hair color was too harsh and made her look even older. They forgot that a new hair color emphasizes every line on the face whereas grey hair softens them because our skin tone changes as we lose the pigments in our hair. Which is why we have little old ladies who look sick when they dye their hair the color they had in their early years. (Is that just an American thing or is it world wide?) Another time a friend was telling about one of the ladies from her church who hated the fact she was going grey to the point she would pluck out every grey hair she found. Then one day at church one of the other member complimented her on her hair. The other person said that is was amazing how all her hair on the top and sides was still her original color and all the grey hair in the back was a lovely contrast. Turns out this lady forgot that we get grey in the back, too. I think after that she stopped pulling out the grey hairs and let it go. Personally, I just turned 68 and I have very little grey hair. But I know when it all turns I will be totally white. My mum was, her sister was, and so was my Granny. I look forward to that. Last summer I dyed my hair for the first time and had purple streaks put in and I'm debating whether or not to have it touched up.

My mom was fully grey at 35. In the early 10s, there was this trend of celebrities dying their hair grey, regardless of age. It influenced a lot of people to let out their natural grey and embrace it and keep it. When I look around in the city today, I don't see it as much as I used to. But now that people are used to seeing it, the confidence of people who embrace the look is still making them be perceived as rather fashionable compared to before the look was a trend with celebs for a while. I think that's great because you could also call it a trend that most people will try out eventually ;-) Thanks for sharing your story. I guess it would have been easier for my mother if celebs has brought that trend in way earlier than the early 10s but the world wasn't ready for it yet it seems.

Your story reminds me a little of my own. I was born with completely straight strawberry bond hair, and I have always adored curly hair especially ringlets. At the age of 13 (puberty) my prayers were answered and my hair actually became so curly I had natural quarter sized ringlets and my hair color turned brown but with so much red highlight if I'm in the sun people think I have red hair. There is zero curly hair on either side of my family for generations, but my siblings hair turned curly about 13, and then half of the cousins on one side of my family. My mother after menopause went from very straight hair to wavy hair. All that to say that it very well could be genetic being activated by the hormonal changes during puberty which is what seems to be the case in my family. I enjoyed your cute stories and it's nice that having your natural hair color look so great on you! Many women would pay a lot of money to have the cool color you do. 😊

I got quite excited, finding my first gray hair at 16. My grandmothers both had such beautiful gray hair... It's not actually progressed for me, but I'm very much looking forward to it when it happens. I think it's quite strange that people act like it's a bad thing or even that aging is a bad thing. It's obviously a very different scenario, but your story with the interview was very relatable to me somehow. I've had a lot of things that people have bullied me for, but some of the major things people fixate on expecting that bullying to be about are the things that meant the least to me. I think in some ways, people are looking to uncover stories they expect to hear from someone, but they often lack the knowledge or imagination to really understand or listen. They have a version of the world as they understand it, and are looking to slot people into that understanding, rather than trying to grow their own internal world to try better fit what's actually in front of them, or learn what that might be. I don't understand that, much, I have always been someone who is very hungry for more understanding and I had to work harder for understanding many things other people took for granted or seemed to come naturally to them. I'm used to expecting things in the world that other people experience to be very, very different to me or my experiences, but most people seem to expect other people to be like them, and I didn't start really getting to know people until after I left that expectation behind.

I have known your Instagram for a few years and you're one of my inspirations for quitting to dye my hair. It's not easy, though the last years situation and restrictions seems to have made it easier for many to start the transition. I'm 37 and have some visible whites, which I think is quite normal at this age, but it's not easy because generally it's socially expected to pretend you don't have them and keep dyeing maybe until you're in your 70's or so.

I think it's cool that you stand by your hair colour. It makes you look even more attractive.

I think your hair is beautiful! But also think it's worth looking into copper deficiency or getting a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis. Some deficiencies can be inherited (which some people call "genetics" but it really isn't).

No, your hair is beautiful ❤️

My hair turned grey in my 20s (I'm now 60). I wasn't bothered. My friends and family didn't care. But over the years I've encountered so many people, all complete strangers, who were so mortified, so upset, so deeply offended by my hair they felt it only right to stop me on the street, on public transport, even at work and demand, often in tones of unalloyed fury, why I didn't dye it. I have been jeered at, sworn and spat at in the street and called 'a greyster' or 'a grey haired, monkey faced c***.' I was even threatened with physical violence (by a woman) because I denied using highlights. Positive reactions are almost as difficult to deal with. Being stopped on the street or in a supermarket and asked if my hair colour is natural or if I get it tinted. Being offered a seat on crowded buses by people thirty years older than me. Being asked by complete strangers if they can touch it - who become angry and abusive when I say no. My hair has never been particularly long, it's always clean, always tidy. I don't dye it. I never have. I always thought that would be dishonest, vain and faintly ridiculous. It's hair for god's sake. It doesn't define me. But because I didn't conform to people's ideas of what someone my age was supposed to look like I was on the receiving end of some truly bizarre, unsettling and absurd behaviour. Of course, now I've entered my 60s my face finally matches my hair: I've become socially irrelevant and invisible. People don't make comments (good or bad) and nobody offers me their seat on the bus. I don't miss it.

Can't relate, I'm happy for you that you didn't get bullied for your pretty hair... I got my first gray at 15 years old and I unfortunately had to dye them back to corvine black because I got called in ugly names like grandma and stuff... By the age of 19 almost half of my head was white since I have vitiligo, but eventually I stopped caring now and I fully embraced myself as I naturally am at the age of 26!

It suits you wonderful! I think people want to hear 'bad' stories because it is quite unusual, and not something that gets much media coverage. They want to make it for greying teenagers to feel less insecure it sounds like. First of all you are a very, attractive young woman, and your hair is awesome. I am. 65 year old, and I use to color my hair, mostly high( lites, I stopped the coloring almost 20 years ago and most people complement me on having great hair,, the color is close to yours.but I do still have a lot of brown underneath. My only criticism comes from family members who tell me I look old with grey hair, and I should cut it and dye it,,,, I don’t listen to them,,and ask them if they really think that their over processed tacky hair color looks nice? But yes, we do always get someone who has to try to make you feel bad. And I’m sure there are many women who would love to have your most beautiful hair. Great video!!
