Really enjoying your content pal. Turned 23 in Jan, I finished my NVQ Lv3 in electrical installation but I am just not satisfied with it… I’ve got an exit strategy now at least and I have decided to apply to join the marines. I’ve signed up to the course to help me prep for the upcoming phases 💪🏼

Great advice Royal. Still preferred the old ways. Tests at Careers office. PRMC then RT. Seems slightly diluted now? Could be wrong.

Good Advice , Also id also say if your not used to doing it, Get your ADMIN sorted for the Induction Phase, get a good iron and start ironing your shirts trousers polishing your boots ,buy a pair at the army navy store and polish every day this will help massively from the start . If your an average swimmer get down your local pool with a weights belt on and start with breadths then move onto lenghs .The Battle Swimming test is not talked about or in any of these documentaries But Was one of the hardest tests for me to pass at Lympstone if you don,t pass it early on it can be a nightmare as the weeks go by . Check out on you tube "Commando swimming test " or "dirty sanchez 2/4 "royal marines swimming test" and you,ll see what i mean if your Not prepared. Good Luck in your pursuit of the Coveted Green Berry

Don’t overtrain yourself, the only tests you’ll face for the first phase are all body weight tests; pull ups, press ups and sit-ups etc. as far as running goes don’t bother running with weight, you’ll risk injury before you even get there, just do regular runs every other day 10km ideally but feel free to run a bit further once a week

Can you call home during basic training? How much free time do you get day to day in that 32 weeks?
@CommandoG331
@CommandoG331 2 года назад
Of course you can call home. I suggest after you've done your admin, revision, block jobs to the required standard etc. Then, if you've not passed out in your pit, give them a bell. I tried not to for a few weeks, to avoid feeling homesick. Once that sets in early doors it's game over. You don't get much free time at all, maybe the odd day at weekends these days? Not sure. Or unless you've got leave.

whats the day to day living like in the royal marines? what are most of the lads like to live with? Im interested in the royal marines or paras but have heard some negative stories about being in the paras which is apparently rife with bullying and genral cuntiness. Also would you say royal marines get the opportunity to travel more than other infantry units? Also do marines ever get the opportunity to do airbone training? A lot of questions but I cant find the answers anywhere online. Thanks mate

The Future Commando Force concept will see us forward based in potential hot spots around the world, we aren't part of the Infantry Arms Plot so we don't do the dross tours that army infantry do on rotation. I cracked +30 countries in my 20ish yrs service although clearly lots of them were 💩 holes! 😁 Getting your Wings isn't too difficult in the Corps, you can get them from Recce Troop, SFSG, Cdo Air Support, SB Support, Mountain Leader etc. although it's very competitive it's often down to how you manage your own career. My son is on 2 Para, he absolutely loves it and has had an incredible 4yrs. They do get treated waaaaaay different to how we do (they're all treated like utter idiots by their SNCO) and their Battalion Admin is shockingly bad (he's been on Sennybridge with no transport booked to get them back to Colchester and Otterburn ranges with no live ammo ordered!) but ... that evacuation they did in Afghanistan shows you exactly how professional and together they are. It's all down to personal choice, try getting on a 'look at life' session for both of them and go for what suits you mate.

Thank you for your reply, very detailed and a lot to take away. I definitely will try to visit both. I’m almost certain Royal Marines are for me as they are smarter than a lot of infantry units and I’m extremely interested in the anti piracy work and travel. Thanks again!
@JammyDodger45
@JammyDodger45 2 года назад
@@aaronhughes7573 our entry education requirements are marginally above average infantry levels and our blokes tend to join a couple of years later (time needed to built up fitness etc) so we tend to be a bit more mature which makes things a lot better when you first join. Don't get me wrong, it's brutal and it stays that way throughout your career but it's worth it. When you go on Ops with NATO partners and they all know who and what you are it's a real buzz and you wouldn't get that level of respect in any other unit, that prestige spurs you on every day, always pushing to be better. There's a new program, Commando, on this Sun at 20.00 on bbc2, give it a watch to fire up your enthusiasm 😁

It's not a great time but it's an acceptable time. All the standards are on the RN/RM site. If you're only hitting them after a nice night's sleep in your own bed and your mum making you breakfast then you need a bit more work. But don't stress it, the standards are high not unachievable. Tens of thousands of lads have made the standard and passed. Just set out a structured approach to consistent training, nutrition and sleep and positive progress will happen.
