I like Alexios as the main character also. Not only that, I think Kassandra makes a better Deimos. She sounds a lot more unhinged and unstable, like she's always on the verge of snapping
But Kassandra's Deimos didn't felt dangerous and powerful unlike Alexios' Deimos. Sure she was crazy and angry but, that was it. Alexios' Deimos is something else and it make sense when Kassandra feared him at first. Kassandra all the way.
Kassadra is serious as deimos and it feels evil But alexios looks some one stepped on his food But as mercenary Alexios seems much more play full and care free
But Deimos was always meant to be a brute. A puppet and a weapon. I felt that Alexios was always a whole lot more intimidating and scary as Deimos (I'm referring to the scene when Kassandra finds him talking to the corpse of a guy he just killed saying something like "I will destroy everything you have built" or something like that. (Also, Deimos is a male name. To me, I don't think I could ever get around that if I was playing the scenario where Kassandra is Deimos. It would always bug me).@@dexios819
Alexios grew on me along with the game itself as I kept playing. He is so fun, charismatic. He has a strong himbo energy and I love him for it. Not to mention, he is SO Handsome.
I have started playing recently, and man ..Alexios is so expressive in the confrontation scene with Nikolas, you can see a blend of frustration, anger, and curiosity .. He is more expressive yet got overlooked by his heavy accent .
THANK YOU I’ve been saying this! I love his sarcasm and carefree personality! Plus, Kassandra’s seriousness fits better as Deimos because it makes her more intimidating imo. Also the fact that Alexios lost his sister, later met Phoibe who made him feel like he had his sister back, only for him to lose Phoibe as well… it just made it even more emotional for me
I think Alexios can do intimidating voice better, when you threaten someone who keeps pulling your leg or using you. For immersion reasons I went on a killing spree with Alexios after Phoibe's death, no more hiding, anything that comes your way you kill it! A shame we can't find Phoibe in Elysium later.
@@Oshaoxin I agree, when Alexios is pissed he can sound very intimidating and it is still different from Kassandra. Also great job on the mass genocide in Phoibe’s name, we will miss her ❤️
Can we still protest about Kassandra in AC Valhalla? They should put a choice between Kassandra and Alexious in Valhalla too. If we play as Alexios, We got Alexios in Valhalla, and if we play as Kassandra, we got Kassandra in Valhalla. That would be fair.
Yup it was annoying to see Kassandra in Valhalla when I played as Alexios. I Don't understand why Ubisoft gave this option to choose between man/ woman and then they say the women Kassandra and female eivor are who you supposed to be playing with. I Don't have a problem to play with a female protagonist dont get me wrong but now my whole storyline is f****d up. 🤯
@@jelleharkema4712 Ahh... if only AC Odyssey and Valhalla can be modded. I would gladly to see someone mod Kassandra into Alexious with original voice over. Are you ever send an email to ubisoft about this, so they'll make a patch/update in AC Valhalla?
It should be linked to Ubisoft account or something, or whatever cloud account save they have that the Club Rewards are in as no matter the platform, as long as UClub is linked, rewards earned/redeemed are shared amongst all platforms.
I agree completely on all your points about Alexios, I played everything Odyssey had to offer as Alexios and in my opinion I think it was very wrong for Ubisoft to decide for all the players who the “canon” character was for Odyssey. Ubisoft shouldn’t give us the players a choice on who to play the game as and then the very next game say it was actually the other character makes us feel like our choices don’t matter💁🏻♂️
@Eleni_Rota The developers of the game confirmed kassandra was the original protagonist alexios was only added because the boss of ubisoft didn't think a game with kassandra would sell
@@Twilight24682 You know what? As a gamer for many years, I never believe a single word from game dev team executives, they will spout nonsense for a purpose and they rarely tell the truth. I just believe what the game tells me, it's that simple.
I really dislike when any game gives you the illusion of choice but then goes ahead and picks a canon character later. Valhalla did it again with having Eivor canonically being female.
oh gawd, for real ? they chose the female eivor? now this is upsetting cause its clearlty the male one should be canon, but in caes of odyssey i believe both are good
@@riordian2yeah female Eivor is Canon. its likely they had the female Eivor as the character in development and male Eivor came later on. Ubisoft also fucked up because sometimes NPC's will refer to you as 'she' even if you're playing male Eivor.
I have to agree her Deimos sounded sinister whereas Alexios was kinda cartoon villainy. Which works for me I loved Alexios sarcasm line delivery humor as the protagonist. It fits the vibe I was going for. It had a Ezio style charm to it for me.
Tbf, Alexios WAS the Canon choice of the game, he was featured on the MAIN cover, a lot of the promotional Materials are with HIM and he is featured primarily in Nearly all menus... HOWEVER Ubisoft just did a (Bethesda In Fallout 3) and just turned their back on what they presented, in the name of Gender equality and stuff. Amazing Job... 👌
Odyssey Novelization left the chat... He was never supposed to be the canon. He was just used for marketing because some idiots at high places thought that the female protagonist can't sell that well. And that is also the reason why they had to also add Alexios as the main protagonist and do all the voice acting all again but with switched roles. (They did the same with Valhalla, they showed male Eivor in trailer etc... (and female is canon). But there is one big difference... Male Valhalla protagonist is actually good unlike Alexios)
@@peterstasak5858 More people picked Alexios though so I don't understand your point how could he have been bad ? Also the player base is predominantly male so upper management didn't want to remove representation for the majority of people actually buying the game in order to push progressive ideals about women in ancient Greece.... Finally the game makes zero sense if you play as a woman
Strangely enough the protagonist whoever you choose is treated as a male and experiences the Greek world through a male prospective yeah Ubisoft is a shitty exist company, but it doesn’t change the fact the character is written as male @@peterstasak5858
@@LordDarshdan Read Odyssey novel then talk about sense bcs you're the one that doesn't make any sense. According to your logic they should replace Lara Croft for a man because Tomb Raider has mostly male audience or do you really believe that Tomb Raider has mostly female audience ?
I like Kassandra is the main character, but the Olympics point is a real problem, especially because the historical Discovery Tour in the same game clearly, and repeatedly, points out that women were not allowed in the Olympics. I’m glad to see somebody pointing it out. That said, Alexios makes a far better Deimos than Kassandra does.
*SPOILER* In my dumb headcanon I pretend Alexios is the main character of Odyssey, saved Deimos, and gave her the staff of Hermes so she could make up for all the heinous stuff she did in the game by wielding it. Hence justifying her appearance in Valhalla. It makes no sense but I like it. It also feels better in Odyssey to be looking for his little sister, rather than the other way around.
Totally agree. I think it’s more fitting for Deimos/Kassandra to be the staff keeper as a sort of atonement while Alexios gets to live a relatively normal life with his family and friends
Alexios is such a baby. I spent over 200 hours in a main game and half of Fate of Atlantis DLC (yet). And I just cannot imagine Kassandra being a cannon anymore. He is a jokester, he is menace, he is a brute and he is a softy. Especially in the scenes with Phoibe and Myrine, he just fits there better. The way he can scream at his enemies, slay the ones he is supposed to. And the next moment he is crying over Phoibe…. It’s just priceless. Michael Antonakos did a fantastic job at bringing Alexios’s to life. Odyssey should not have a protagonist option imho. The fact Kassandra appears in Valhalla is one thing, but the Odyssey book is also written from Kassandra’s POV, which is hard to read and…. Just doesnt sit right with me after spending so much time with Alexios, seeing the story from his perspective.
I definitely agree. I played as Alexios and when I watched videos I always saw people playing as kassandra. I enjoyed Alexios way more. He's funnier, more sarcastic and overall just gives more of a human impression than the more robotic or montone one of kassandra. (In my opinion) Thanks for making a video about this🙂
yea tbh it's way more emotional when alexios is the lead, the way he reads the script, the way he is just better with characters and emotions, or his reaction to certain scenes, that makes abig difference
I remember feeling like I was taking crazy pills when everyone on the AC subreddit was saying Alexios sounded too cartoonish/had a tough guy tryhard voice when Odyssey launched. His delivery in cinematics (the fully mocapped ones) is so good. His actor also does a damn fine Batman in Gotham Knights. I like Kassandra's performance a lot, but I don't see (and/or hear) what a lot of people do with her. She definitely gets outshined by Alexios in more than a few pivotal story moments (particularly the scenes concerning Phoibe in the main quest).
There's literally nothing that sets them apart. Both VA's did a great job, and shined in different areas. People are such bandwagoners. One person said it and everyone jumped on instead of forming their own opinion. To this day I've never heard a legitimate argument for why Kass has better VA. It always boils down to nothing but opinion with no real reasoning
@@PLSE_SND_BY_ I still can't wrap my head around the fact that people like you exist. You talked without actually saying anything, and then almost parroted what SalvationCode said but in a more abrasive tone. What exactly did you think you were contributing to this discussion? All you accomplished was making yourself easy to dislike thanks to how you presented your thoughts. Take it down a notch and use your inside voice next time.
The only reason why is Kassandra is because no one cares about the previous AC games with Female Protagonist (people don't like the Chronicles games, and have no clue that Assassin's Creed Liberation exists!) Alexios as the Main Character is WAAAAAAAY Better in my opinion and Im happy to hear U share my pov
People don't like Chronicles? First time I'm hearing it. That's like the only true stealth etries in the franchise. And their story fills many gaps between Rogue, Unity and Syndicate.
Odyssey is one of my top 3 games I’ve ever played. I’ve replayed it from scratch and ng+ multiple times each and I can confidently say Alexios is a fantastic protagonist and Kassandra a great antagonist but they suck in the alternative roles.
I have to agree her Deimos sounded sinister whereas Alexios was kinda cartoon villainy. Which works for me I loved Alexios sarcasm line delivery humor as the protagonist. I also feel he was more expressive with his line delivery vocally and body language.
Alexios as the main character makes it SO much more fun and the pure emotion we get from him is amazing, and his immense sarcasm and the historical accuracy is better
After two play throughs as both, I think it's obvious the game was built around Alexios being the protagonist and then later they decided to make Kassandra the protagonist for internet points (heck even the cover art of the game had Alexios on it 😭)
Thank you for your video , i thought about playing Odyssey with Kasandra but scene with Cyclops convinced me to play with Alexios. This scene shows that joking in this type of situations can make a game more enjoyable.
@@Twilight24682Sure buddy sure... Alexios voice actor is native to greece. Kassandra's voice lines were so dry it was boring compared to his. Not to mention kassandra straight up just breaks multiple quests and stories in the game because she is female and everyone seems to just ignore it. It's so stupid.
@Joseph-wh5of Kassandras voice actress is greek too and being native to Greece doesn't make you better voice actor and female characters are not bad in games dude you are just sexist
@@Twilight24682I don't think he doesn't means that. If you look historically, Kassandra couldn't participate in the Olympics pankration because she is a woman. Women weren't even allowed to watch since athletes competed naked. As an example
@Kone5497 A man wouldn't be able to join daughters of artemis a spartan man would be at war with other spartan men not being a mercenary and deimos is a male name the game isn't historically accurate I mean isu don't exist nor do magic spears a woman in the game is not that bad
I am incredibly biased towards this game with it being my first ac game, but i fell in love with it and played all the way through the campaign with both, and as others have stated alexios makes more sense historically, and i prefer his voice as well, not really for any particular reason though
I finally got a chance to play Odyssey for the first time this winter and since I knew Kassandra appeared later on, I decided to play as her. It was fun and she suited some scenes perfectly but I was also getting quite annoyed with her voice, so much that I didn't even start any of the dlc's with her. It was dull, some dialogue options which looked fun came out sounding really mean and her expressions were lacking. So I started a 2nd playthrough with Alexios this time around and it's WAY better, like he actually is funny and he's expressive when Kassandra wasn't. As much as I like Kassandra and love her in some scenes, Alexios simply suits this game better, both in terms of voice and facial expressions, nevermind the historical accuracy, since let's be real that's not the only thing they got wrong but then again history is merely an inspiration here.
Honestly I think Kassandra is a great canon character just not enough energy as the actress put into the character as she should've. However in my personal opinion ubisoft should've probably done it as another Jacob and Evie game. Play as two different characters with different stories until they both intertwine with each other somehow. And I think if the plot twist were to happen it would be where you have to choose who dies as the final sacrifice until one of them becomes the main character of the story further. At least that's something I would've hoped happened.
I love Alexios and think he fits much better, I have made so many clips where I simply bursted out in chuckles cuz the voice acting was so perfectly saracastic with some situations. His voice acting is very emotional and into the role, he has much more weight to it imo. He also appears in the first main trailers and pictures of the game which means their first plan was Alexios and then appeased through Kassandra to save face. They should have given us the choice to pick whenever the characters showed up for example in Valhalla, im playing ac odyssey again rn and gonna continue with all of valhalla with dlc and seeing kassandra there is just gonna feel disconnected from my whole playthrough with alexios which just totally destroys the immersion i get from the games
The 'Protagonist' For Odyssey, regardless of gender, is supposed to be a disowned child. One who was taken in by parental figures then taught to fend for themselves as a mercenary. This in standard storytelling produces the rougish archetype; Such as Han Solo, Jack Sparrow... Or to be very close to the mark, Achilles. There is no doubt in my mind that Alexios was supposed to be the played sibling. A cocky, charismatic figure who's used to talking their way into contracts and out of problems. While Kassandra is, to be blunt, all the potential without the privates. This naturally creates a chip on their shoulder. Which makes them direct, ambitious, and quick to anger. Anyone with even a semblance of writing experience will see what voice actor was given what direction for what role. And that somewhere early in production, the narrative shifted to both siblings being playable, but the direction of character personality didn't.. They were simply given the same lines.
Man I love Alexios. He's like a dorky but badass-when-he-needs-to-be proto Ezio. Seeing him go from humble mercenary to living demigod was an amazing character arc. For me, Alexios will always be the Eagle Bearer. Kassandra will always be Deimos. I never understood the complaints about his voice acting, I actually prefer it to Kassandra's. And I'm glad you pointed out the thing about his facial animations. That's always something that stuck out to me the first time playing Odyssey - Alexios is very expressive with his face, Kassandra is a bit more stoic and I've tried a few times but I just can't get into Kassandra as the Eagle Bearer
I gathered a bit of info on the game before i played it and most were saying that i should pick Kassandra, so ofc i went with Alexios. I found his voice acting to be good and i really enjoyed him as a character,he gets "hate" for no reason in my opinion.
Man Alexios is a better protagonist than Kassandra and kassie is a better Deimos than Alexios cuz hear what Alexios as Deimos was so hilarious stupid but on the other hand Kassandra as Deimos is so good as a villain but she isnt good for being the main character
The thing is Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla only needed the male characters, cause is the most historically accurate to do in those times women were not warriors those were the men🗿
I believe it’s more about pushing the current agendas instead of the historical accuracy. But in my mind this was one if not the best assassins creed game I’ve ever played and Alexis as the character I think was perfect. and I’ve played since Altair on 360.
my biggest issue with having Kassandra show up in Valhalla and not Alexios, is that it defeats the purpose of getting to choose who you play in Odyssey...if only one of them is canon in the overarching story, don't give us the second option .-. I also genuinely enjoyed Alexios, the scene where he goes to meet Myrrine killed me. The silence and the facial expressions are great imo, but I think he comes across as a little "underplayed" and maybe that's why I like him. As someone who also doesn't wear my heart on my sleeve and act out dramatically, I think I read him perfectly well and relate. I watched Kassandra's scene and it didn't hit nearly as hard. Alexios' face told of grief and pain and heartache, as well as relief and joy and love. Kassandra was just happy to see her mom.
Probably one of my favorite AC games of the newer generation but yeah I gotta agree Alexios had more emotion that I liked. One of the biggest moments I didn’t like playing Kassandra was phoebes death. Kassandra sounded a little too monotone for the emotion Alexios delivers in the same scene
I'm still kinda bummed that Kassandra is canon and Alexios isn't. Nothing against Kassandra. She's cool but Alexios is just a bit better. If one is canon and the other isn't, what's the point of having the choice in the first place? I think Alexios is the better protagonist and Kassandra is the better Deimos. At least the encounter with her in Valhalla is optional and skippable. Hopefully it stays that way. But I'm not holding my breath.
Yeah Alexios definitely takes the win as MC of Odyssey. I played as Kassandra at first but I genuinely did not find anything likable about her even after I completed the game. I replayed as Alexios and I just fell in love. He actually feels like someone who was raised by Markos, and his friendlier vibe is something I could see getting him points with kids like Phoebe too. He's a silly man that fits with the silly and fantastical story of Odyssey.
To be honest I think Alexios is a great character and should have been the canon character than Kassandra. And that is as this good gentleman said about the olympics. Women where not allowed in the games, not even as a spectater. That was seen as a crime.
In fact Alexios was supposed to be the basic canon character of this opus, we only learned a few years ago that Assassin's Creed Odyssey was supposed to be a story set in the Assassin's Creed universe. the title was "Odyssey an assassin's creed adventure" and we see in concept art that Alexios was to be the main character and that Kassandra was more than secondary. I hope to see was clear in my explanation.
When the game came out, i thought Alexios was canon, because he was on the promo posters everywhere. I was quite shocked to learn Kassandra is canon instead of him. Also he strikes me as more appealing for reasons explained in your video. I think his voice actor did a good job and he is more expressive than Kass. But i a little bit regret i didnt go with Kass just because she looks more badass in the greek armor.
I think it's because Kassandra's voice actress was focusing on trying to sound more authentically Greek, whereas Alexios' voice actor, while doing the same thing, also purposely tried to sound like Ezio Auditore (his own words).
It genuinely feels like Alexios was supposed to be the protagonist. Kassandra as a villain is just so much more intimidating than Alexios as a villian. And Alexios as a protagonist not only makes more sense generally but acting wise he's so much better at playing the hero.
Of course they can but they won't.. Just skip that quest, it's not even part of the main game. It was added on much later. It means absolutely nothing it's just fan fair.
@@Twilight24682Bro no one cares. Mass effect male shepherd is canon, yet throughout all the games if you select a female shepherd, it is persistent because the developers actually care about people's choices. Ubisoft doesn't they just want to push diversity.
@Joseph-wh5of You can still play male character dude how is that not caring about choice in origins aya was meant to be a playable character but they didn't do that and had beyek playable instead that is taking away people's choices not making a character canon
I can only play characters I can identify with on some level to enjoy immersion in a game story, that's why I always play as Alexios and it feels right in every way in the game. Alexios' voice acting isn't bad at all, clearly they've never played the game as Alexios before. A voice takes some getting used to, take Roshan from Valhalla and Mirage. Sounds like a 50 year old chain smoking woman from the Simpsons, I couldn't bear hearing it until Mirage lets you get used to it. People just didn't like the sound of the voice, it has nothing to do with the voice acting. Alexios was way better at sounding intimidating and cocky than Kassandra.
I always felt more of a connection to Alexios than Kassandra. I played both and I struggle to beat the game as her. There’s nothing wrong with Kassandra as a character, I just think Alexios is more relatable. Not because he’s a man, but his sarcasm and his free spirit and monotone responses are literally me. I felt that they just added her to people please. However I never felt that they made a compelling female protagonist in AC. Making her canon was a mistake in my humble opinion, and it doesn’t feel natural. I hope one day we get a compelling female protagonist that don’t feel out of place.
Amazing video my friend!!! I just subscribed to your channel! I love Alexios and Kassandra, but I played the entire game with Alexios first and I had no problems with his voice!! I really like his voice and facial expressions a lot!! 😁😁😎😎💯💯💯✨✨✨🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
The only reason Kassandra is canon is because the devs felt the need to force a female character to be the protagonist. Kassandra does not fit the protagonist in this game at all, and it shows.
I never, EVER understood how so many people didn't like Alexios because of his "monotone delivery". In every single cutscene side by side, Alexios is full of far more life than Kassanda and actually LOOKS like a person. People were just blowing their loads because Kassandra is a woman with muscles, so she quickly became a fan favorite of the playerbase that's mainly made up of male teenagers. I seriously can't believe people hated Alexios, a Greek man, for having a *Greek accent.* You can't make it up.
One interesting point is that in the spanish version of the game, Alexios voice actor is the same as Matthew Mcconaughey’s, which has also some Ancient Greece vibes.
The idea of a “canon” protagonist at all is gross. No matter who you make canon, 50% of your audience is gonna be unhappy. What they should have done in Valhalla is search your system for Odyssey save data and choose whichever protagonist you chose.
