@@shaulov10and don’t forget by listening to their fans by giving SEGA more encouragement into more passion and care into their projects and the fan made games and mods give them more inspirations for future projects
The same was effectively the case for Frontiers. Obviously Frontiers wasn't done though, missing the entire final act (like play act... Not Sonic act) of the game. The big difference is that Sonic Team has the money and manpower now to make something better. The team from Frontiers scaled WAY up, they didn't waste resources on side games like Superstars, Dream Team or Final Horizon and left that to separate studios, while the B team works on Shadow Gens, a smaller product, and while SEGA isn't rushing out to market the next big 3D Sonic title, with the movies and side games riding the hype until the next big release. They got the extra money they needed, and improved their planning and management dramatically.
the nicest thing about this is the fact that they are going this hard on what is basically a side game if they managed to make this side game this polished imagine how the next mainline sonic game will be if they continue down this route
I see this as an experiment. A better chance to take sonic frontiers’ best parts and amplify them brighter. Also them wanting to work with Shadow but understandably knowing that a standalone shadow game wouldnt sell as well so they went the bowser’s fury approach. I see a lot of people complain about it NOT being it’s own thing but it’s just how the business works. Plus, i dont know why they’re complaining they get an updated version of a beloved sonic game plus this for $50. Honestly was expecting it to be $60.
If this does as well as the original Gens, they will definitely continue making games like this.. please let this be the case.. we do not need another Frontiers-esque game
@@nazomius7033 actually yes we do because it will be nice to polish up that formula and frontiers is stated to be the cornerstone for the next mainline games for the foreseeable future
6:11 Ya when the marketing team puts a demo in front of you an their only instruction is a variation of "Here's the game, here's the controller, Go nuts". That shows confidence.
5:27 FUCKING THANK YOU DUDE, IM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE TREATING ME LIKE AN IDIOT FOR BEING EXCITED ABOUT SOMETHING "OH BUT ITS NOT INDUSTRY STANDARD" "OH BUT IT SHOULD OF BEEN THIS GOOD FROM THE START" YEA WELL IT WASNT, AND THIS GAME LOOKS GOOD, IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE BEING EXCITED FOR SOMETHING, *YOU* ARE THE PROBLEM, NOBODY ELSE! Also Banger video
Also, real comment this time, I still love this video editing style. The lost media/retrospective videos, while cool, feel a bit too overedited, feels like I'm at risk of dying by watching the video 💀. I'm glad these regular video uploads are still coming out as they feel more chill imo
Yeah. I’m still trying to find a nice medium between cool but not trying to give people a seizure💀. Those super edited vids are kinda reserved for when I talk about cut content so it won’t be every video
@@shaulov10 weird suggestion but maybe try to make the videos more dark/ lofi/chill themed? Since the videos usually come out pretty late at night in my country, having a sonic news video that doesn't shout at people for once would be pretty unique. Also please make sonic songs to sleep too 2 🙏🙏
I think this game will be a very big hit moneywise with the new fans As stated by the “expo” the reason shadow generation exist is because they want everybody to have a good idea of shadow and his history for the 3rd movie remastering generations because it a game visiting the past. Once the trailer comes out (please God Tuesday) The newer fans will likely be like “ cool that guy shadows getting his own game I’ll go play it before watching the movie” They’ll also have the animated shorts to watch So I think from a business standpoint, this is very smart
I love that you're actually sticking up for SXSG, thanks its so nice to hear a sonic fan as hyped for a sonic game as I am for the game and you didn't beg for subs in the video either im definitely subbing 😁
8:22 fun fact in this cutscene if shadow gets a doom logo it falls out of black doom and shadow actually looks down at it before collecting it the fact that they have 2 different versions of the same cutscene one for getting the collectable and one for not is pretty cool
Honestly I can’t wait for this game, I never played this version of Generations (I only had the 3DS version), so I basically get 2 games in one, and the Shadow portion looks extremely polished compared to other recent Sonic games
Whoa whoa whoa… they’re giving you back lives as a switchable option? Yeah I love Sonic Team. Edit: I’m 100% ready for this game to release. From the looks of it so far, it might become my number one favorite Sonic game replacing Unleashed. We gotta see when the game comes out though.
To my knowledge we still don't have a Shadow 05 stage and we are up to 5 or 6 depending on if Radical Highway will be its own stage. If we can get to 7 or 8 with the DLC I'd be pretty happy with that. Would be cooler as a bonus after beating the game if you can play as Shadow in all the Sonic Generations levels but don't think they'd go that far
Shadow as the main character, better animation, gameplay without the Wisps, a power exclusive to him, and him not being an edgy tool? I'd say the positivity is warranted. Oh, and lack of EDM and having to fight Metal Overlord is a fun prospect, as well as the potential of Black Doom no longer playing nice.
Sega's marketing should always be like this from now on when it comes to new sonic games, if they keep this up we can only continue to go up from here, we'd be seeing sonic adventure 3 in no time as well.
8:16 there is some pop-in in the open zone, specifically after shadow launches off the ramp with the doom surf, you can see a challenge gate pop into existence.
Pop in is inevitable to be fair. It’s just how far. Frontiers has horrific pop in, but a few things coming in from far away is ight. Plus, if someone points that out to the team, they could go back and fix that.
@@best_mate456 every game has pop in to be fair, it's just that most recent Sonic games have absolutely horrendous pop-in due to a low draw distance and LOD being underutilized.
@@boltdoublet yeah one because the loading performance is bad Second the platforming position is ugly as fuck Third he sonic is very fast (that can’t be dealt with) So better render distance and faster loading time needs to there
I think sonic team's problem is a matter of their mindset. I think we can all agree that sonic is a good series at its core however, sometimes sonic team loses their confidence when faced with tons of criticism. Some of it valid, but a lot of it being unfounded (the sonic fanbase is pretty crazy honestly so i can't really blame them). I have noticed when sonic has full confidence and trusts themselves. No matter how the game turn out, overall people will come to like the games and appreciate them. But when sonic team desides to do something radically different that dousn't rely on the foundation they have build, it can lead to interesting results, sometimes these games can still be good quality wise however it won't feel like a "sonic" game because the experience is too drastically different. They also tend to make to get their act together when they are in a "do or die" situations (pretty sure SA2 was one of these games). To summerise, if sonic team stops doubting the capabilities of their IP they could much more successful consistently.
@@justiceiria869 EXACTLY. That’s why despite the issues, sonic frontiers turned out pretty good. I haven’t seen Izuka so confident or passionate about a sonic game in a long time when developing that game. And the same seems to be true with this game
They're so confident in this game that we're got a collector's edition outside of Japan, a COLLECTOR'S EDITION! When's the last time any sonic game's gotten one of those, 2011?
Game has a ton of potential, I'm just hoping if this game does well that we can get a Silver the Hedgehog game. Ian Flynn seems to really like the character and he's my favorite so I've been waiting nearly 20 years for something like that.
I agree with everything you said. At first I thought it was going to be some lazy sonic generations DLC but it’s essentially a full shadow game which is insane.
As a newer fan who’s seen more games than I’ve played, I’ve been finally getting to enjoy the new sonic game hype, I got really excited for frontiers and that ended up split, but this game seems to have mostly unified the sonic fans, and it’s awesome to be along for the ride of excitement
This is 100% gonna be my favorite sonic game generations was already my favorite game previously and shadow is my favorite sonic character so combining the two with so much polish and awesomeness means this is gonna be the best game in all of history
fun fact i basically recreated the layout of space colony ark act 1 based on gameplay videos of the entire stage in a sonic fangame I'm helping with so I essentially got to play the stage early only thing is though the stage got too large so I had to stop at the skydiving part before the interior segment
My epileptic friend loved sonic colors ultimate so much that when he played the switch version he dropped his switch and starting rolling on the ground screaming
5:27 I agree 100%. Honestly I think this goes for anything. Even if someone was excited for Forces then I think they should have that. Just because they were disappointed later doesn’t mean that people shouldn’t be looking forward to new experiences in general. If this game does turn out to be bad, (which i highly doubt we’ve seen too much good from this for it to dip. And if im wrong and people make fun of me fuck off) it doesn’t matter. That’s people’s feelings.
Speaking of Sonic Colors Ultimate, I'm interested in seeing a video of you covering the marketing, release, reception, and issues of the game that still persist. Especially covering on Sega managment and Blind Squirrel Games' history of employees and development. There are videos that talk about the remaster and their ports, but they don't really do a deep dive on what really happened and how it came to be.
You know what was the last Game where the camera moved during the ranking animations SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG (With Adventure 2 and Heroes right behind it) Also 9:41 WHAAAAT??? I DID NOT KNOW 'BOUT THAT THAT FLIPPIN' AWSOME
Seeing Shadow Generations... It's the first real time that as I saw the trailers and gameplay, I genuinely had my expectations exceeded. Of course, it's marketing doing that, but to put it this way... This marketing worked, I bought the Digital Deluxe Edition back when Pre-orders opened. I'm not going to say I feel this game could be what SA2 was for gameplay for so many, but I WILL say, I genuinely hope that when the game comes out, it absolutely garners that goodwill back in Sonic to such a degree that people WILL bring this up in a conversation for one of the greats of Sonic's tenure as a gaming franchise. What I see... actually genuinely makes me feel like this can happen. Will it happen? Maybe, maybe not. Do I feel it can? Yes.
If the game has a total of 6 to 7 levels at least. A juice box for the levels similar to base Gens. And an Extreme mode, then the game has really won me over. But I guess we'll wait and see.
I still want Ifrit as a boss. Because Ifrit (sonic rivals 2) can destroy intirer dimension (it is confirmed that it fulled the whole universe in fire not just a world) Sonic and Shadow only defeat a heavily weakened ifrit as it isn't fully revived yet (it did eat a bunch of chao and become invincible, though. Plus, he has mind control powers and is just as sentient as chaos). But they still beat it in base, which is still incredibly impressive. I bring him up because Gerald has notes on ifrit implying Gerald Robotnik somehow got into the dimension that chaosic inferno takes place in. Yeah, he is in another dimension not another point in time but still please sega. Then again i wish sega would use the sonic colors ds lore (as it has more lore and story then it's console counterparts including the mother wisp who can make planets) and use marine but they really don't.
@@SonicTheBlueBlur15 not yet… it will happen soon. I’m the beginning of the year I made a video talking about it but to sum it up. What I think will happen is there gonna basically make an adventure game but not title jt SA3. If it’s well received. Then they will make SA3 for real
I don’t know where all the sudden polish came from? Maybe because the Gens team apparently some of them are back Regardless this game is looking so hype and could be the Best 3D sonic game
The reason I believe they made a Gens port with Shadow content is to get more hype for Sonic 3 and the year of Shadow itself and possibly Shadow the Hedgehog 2.
I feel like peoples criticism with the game not looking anything at all like a remaster cause of the low graphical enhancements (if any) is for the most part fair. BUT, I'm excusing it for this game because while it is sort of leaning on the side of false advertisement, this doesn't look like its the game focus whatsoever. And i feel like I speak for most people when i say id rather have a game that's fun then a game that looks good. (That last part actually doesn't make much sense since generations is already fun but you get the point.)
I'm so glad they're letting us toggle whether we want lives or not It usually doesn't bother me much but it does kinda bum me out, I like a good challenge
Sonic team has the ambition Sonic team has the Passion Sonic team has the motivation But they didn’t have Time or budget…. But now that’s changed and people are hyped 😈
Gens if my first Sonic game and I was hyped it when it was getting ported, yes is a remaster but its more of polished than remaster but I don't care I happy its getting ported to newer consoles and with Shadow I'm sold.
For me one big thing, is that Shadow Gens is a follow up to the promises made by Frontiers, we can see that clearly. But there's still something that bothers me about the game from the latest trailer, before I express that I will clarify certain things: - Yes, the game looks cool and raw as fuck and it looks amazing, the animations, the looks, everything - The polish is amazing, if I remember correctly it was said the game was already finished which is... unbelievable for Sonic... - Basically all te good things that had been said Where my concerns lies is... I guess you could say, I think all the new Shadow abilities, as cool as they look, aren't they pulling us further away from what we would Sonic to be? To me it seems like the general consensus, and ideal world, would for Sonic to finally have his 2D mechanics: the Rolling physics (NOT just momentum) integrated and fully exploited in 3D. The idea is too go back to may be a simpler moveset, but a simple mechanic with huge potential, but Shadow Gens follows the trends of the Boost, which I believe it's mechanics are already pumped out of creativity, which is why I think they are rellying on other abilities now, to had variety that they know the Boost can't offer anymore, with this Shadow they introduce a lot of potential across many abilities, which what I think would be the ideal is to have this potential emerge for 1 unique core mechanic. All of this is still really cool, but personally I am a a person who is always afraid of what may be lurking behind aesthetic, so I am warry of the hype that may blind the general perception, we may respond "yes Sonic Team, it's all so cool, continue like that" and because of that, in the end we take Sonic Team down the philosophy that "keep pumping Sonic and friends with new abilities as long as they look cool" and keep distancing ourselves again into a corner, and loosing further what the essence of Sonic was, and I mean... they are already 2 main Sonic styles, Classic and Boost (and no, I don't count Adventure in terms of gameplay) And look at Frontiers, it has 4 aspects, the 3 main ones are Puzzles, Combat, and Exploration/Platforming, the 4th one which is the Speed, the most important to that "Sonic essence" is Cyberspace, the least enjoyed part of the game. Even if the game was good and enjoyable, Puzzles, Combat, Platforming/Exploration.. those 3 don't "make" Sonic, even platforming as I am considering the platforming takes more advantage of "Level Assets" and not "Sonic's speed" What I see in Shadow's ability, is 2 ability for combat, one of them with potential for puzzles, and 3 environmental traversal, which to me is just proof that they run out of ideas with the current moveset. To clarify my thoughts, as I realize I got off rails rambling, I think ideally we should focus on working a moveset with 1 simple ability with complex potential, rather than many abilities with simple potential each, or in other words.. make the controls simple and stage complex, and not the controls complex and the stage simple... if you can follow my train of thought..
Many people who've played the demo even the guy on twitter that you showed in this vid have said that base Gens looks noticeably better so idk what you're on about with that part
Video compression doesnt do anyone favors sadly, I do think it'll look better when I see it in person, but again, you cant improve perfection, at most a higher res just does the trick for me. Then again i'm buying the switch version, but the artstyle is great so its not a problem.
It really boils down to confidence and polish to have a game that looks that appealing and good, I know you already mentioned examples in the video, but I want to go even further and mention even more examples of that If we see, in terms of polish: Many Sonic games don't have that enough polish, one of the biggest errors of Sonic 06 was being rushed and unfinished because SEGA wanted Sonic Team to release the game in 2006 while the team was separated into developing both Secret Rings and 06 at the same time Same happend with Boom: Rise of Lyric, SEGA made a partnership with Nintendo which ended up all the plans BigRedButton had for the game, they had to switch the engine they had been making the game on because the WiiU couldn't handle it, and they also had to go through a lot during development, removing many things they wanted to add, and then, just like And in terms of confidence: Sonic Frontiers marketing was terrible, the first few trailers didn't had ANY second of gameplay, the very first trailer from Sonic Central was fully CGI from Marza that isn't even in the game, on the second one we had like a few seconds of "gameplay" just showing Kronos, but it wasn't really showing Sonic going through the islands, it was just the camera flying across Kronos Island and then showing Sonic looking at the horizon to the vast plains of Kronos Island without moving at all, only after so much time we got an actual gameplay, it was that IGN terrible gameplay which made everyone look at the game with bad eyes, it took months for us to get actual gameplay and it wasn't looking good And Sonic Forces, although it started strong with everyone getting really hyped for the return of dark stories in Sonic games, thinking it was many things the game really wasn't, the confidence started to fall, for things that you mentioned in the video AND the fact that we got that awful demo where you could play 3 stages and all of them were time limited, you could only play 1 minute of each stage and then the demo would cut you off (That also happend with Frontiers, you had 1 hour to explore Kronos on the demo) and force you back into the menu, and yet people still found ways to beat the stages before the timer sent you out of the stage just so you see how short Forces stages are, so they didn't look fun because they were too linear, and you could beat them under the timer of the demo, it was a joke of a demo Now, for Shadow Generations, it's going against BOTH those pillars and it's doing them RIGHT In terms of polish, we know from Twitter that the development of this game ended MONTHS ago and they're now just refining it to release a good product, unlike other Sonic games in the past which were "finished" weeks before the release date and it releases like a buggy mess And in terms of confidence, they've been developing this game for over 2 years (I think?) And just when the product was ready to be shown they released the trailers to the public, ever since the very first trailer we already had gameplay with Shadow actually running through the stages, and the more and more trailers taht we got we discovered MORE and saw MORE stages from the game, then we had the Summer Game Fest/Gamescom demo, which wasn't time limited, you could play the entire first stage and boss on its entirety, and they actually look good stages that have things to do and looks fun to play
The gameplay looks great but I have no idea how good the story will be hopefully it’s good but knowing sonic stories it’s the roll of the dice so I will have to separate ratings one for gameplay and one for story
Let’s see how this game turns out then after I want you to make wish list on stuff you want from shadow gens and frontiers to return in frontiers successor
I played the game at gamescom its pretty good nothing too special the controls feel like the best of sonic forces controls and the best of sonic frontiers cyber space controls combined but its not as good as gens gameplay though but its still really good
6:28 Just wanted to comment, I don't necessarily think short levels inherently can't be good. Mania has Acts where you can get to the boss in under a minute (speedrun times). But they're well designed and in general extremely replayable nevertheless.
Im just hoping the stages arent like frontiers stages and control. Forces got so much flack but i can actually play the game's main stages without getting frustrated. In frontier's cyberspace player control is ripped from you the minute i think about boosting. I just want to be able the control the characters again properly
I think the levels in Forces were bad because they had these 3 issues 1: Levels were heavily automated 2: Levels were short 3: Levels were linear One or 2 of these alone would be fine but making a level with all 3 of these problems is just awful level design.
I'm tryna keep my hype up but colors ultimate has me worried for any sort of remaster Tho I do have one thought Everyone expected dlc for Sonic Generations back then since... well that is self explanatory Wonder if they'll finally make up for that "failing" There is that one dlc shadow stage at least
Yeah, this game is gonna break the cycle, man...... And then the game after that, and then the game after that, and then the game after that, and then the game after that....
