This was actually a really interesting take on the Toymaker, he’s never had that scare factor for me physically in either rendition they’ve done so far but it’s more about how manipulative and twisted he is that makes him such a good character

There’s also the story of the few timelords that studied the Toymaker, the ones that were unable to prove him scientifically were the lucky ones, others were driven mad by the Toymaker’s games or became devotees to this trickster god.

That’s insane I’ve actually never come across this but the idea of Toymaker disciples is both incredible and terrifying at the same time 😂 need to look this up because it sounds so juicy

@@kyrauniversal that makes so much more sense now if he’s referring to his disciples as his legion they could even be the ones to break him out of UNIT I just hope the next episode with the Toymaker features more of his own universe in the Toyroom and not mainly Earth

@@Fictional-Fears I got a theory I call Toymakers' Roundabout. If you want me to email you about it, I'd be happy to. I don't really want it out on the internet just yet. I already have the remix and a song medley to do.

I’d like to see another episode where they travel into the Toymakers domain where he has even more power rather than him coming to Earth

The toymaker turned god into a Jack-in-the-Box

I’d love to know what he’s referring to here because it sounds like such juicy lore, some people theorise it’s a reference to turning Captain Jack into the face of Boe hence jack-in-the-box, but as far as I know it’s not specifically explained anywhere

I always thought the toy maker was a malevolent being like Q from Star Trek. But the toy maker was first.

The soundtrack in the mere preview made me terrified of this one. I literally am gonna try to remix it. Also... I guess Neil Patrick Harris wanted to be able to enjoy breaking the status quo for once.

I’d love to hear that remix if you do It especially if you make it sound even more ominous 😅 and Neil Patrick Harris seemed like such a random cast at first but I think he absolutely nailed it

since you're probably already planning videos on the Vashta Nerada and The Silence, may I recommend the boneless from Flatline

That’s such a great shout the boneless hadn’t even crossed our minds but the concept behind them is so intriguing, and of course you knew Vashta Nerada and The Silence were on our list well played 😂 they’re coming soon after the Empty Child which rivalled the weeping angels for keeping me up at night as a kid

while i generally think the giggle ruined the toymaker with new character stuff contradicting his old personality and introduced new rules which not only made him weaker but also made him even more out of character. (i have a long comment that ill copy and paste if people so wish given it is way too lengthy and im not wanting to dwell on that interpretation.) the original toymaker story's version of the toymaker is my personal favourite interpretation of him. i think what makes him even more terrifying is that not only is he bound by the rules he controls the rules. his rules are if you lose you become his toy for the rest of his life and if you win you get freedom but his world is destroyed. and you will generally be playing on his world. i assume if he had no world it would be the toyroom and if there is no toyroom it would be the winner. and then you have the rules of the game. which is what i mean by hes not just bound but he also controls them. the toymaker has a greater grasp than anyone else on games and rules and knows how to bend them to his will. and his ability to pick out which rules are initiated means the rigging is just too perfect. for example lets use the pawn in chess for example. we know it can move only one space forward at a time and its starting movement can be two. it can only take pieces in a diagonal movement. now lets put this in the toymaker's eyes. in his eye's he can bend these rules. a move limit was only explained on the general forward movement and starting movement this means he can manipulate the rules to take pieces in a diagonal motion on the other side of the board. lets put another game for example and something that should have been done in the giggle. catch. the rule wording is exactly the same. you throw the ball to each player and first to "drop it" loses. drop has a few meanings. in catch it simply means to not catch it but lets use its general definition and there you go. not drop as in you dont catch it but drop as in it slips out your hands. another example that applys to just about every game now given no earth game rules are expected to have a god like being playing. nowhere in the rules does it say he can't use his powers to win so lets say hes playing a game of cards he could keep on using his powers to give himself the cards he wants and nowhere in the rules does it say he cant do that, especially in that specific way. with clara and joey when they explained the rule's they just said blindfolded. they never said it had to blind you. and with cyril now, nowhere in the rules does it say he can't pretend and place down slipping powder etc. you need to get really specific on rules when playing against the toymaker and even then he will realise loopholes in those rules. the toymaker's rules are a little different if your not playing directly against him but against someone on his side like his dolls. in that case the losing rule is the same but the winning rule is just you get freedom. while the queen of hearts does mention they need to win to be freed from the toymaker i dont believe that is the case. and even if you get the freedom against the doll's in however many games it took you you better hope you brought something that can get you off world before he forces you to play against him otherwise your doomed. the toymaker has been my favourite doctor who villain for awhile now and was very disappointed with how he was treated in the giggle however the nightmare fair novel audiobook has been a great listen and refreshing as it gets his old characterisation correct. and while he is a little more ruthless in there like you actually die or become his servant there is nothing saying you dont become his toy which means its more lore friendly to the celestial toymaker (both the story and the character) than the giggle. in which the giggle completely removes the old winning rule for both the toymaker and his opponent with if you win you get the toymaker's powers to do what you like but only once and then in the toymaker's case he uses them to do what he used to do and honestly makes the toymaker feel less intelligent than he used to be. the old toymaker covered every aspect of his winning and losing rules and i think he didnt expect someone to imitate his voice so well that they would end up winning and escaping. in that you would think he would cover even more possibilities but instead made his rules even looser and easier to defeat him. which is incredibly out of character in my opinion. i did also dislike that they explained his power's as him controlling atoms which i think brings more questions to how he does certain things than brings answers and i just prefer it as being unexplained and we just know he can control reality. overall the giggle's toymaker i consider a different toymaker all together (using the celestial toymaker novelisation to back up this headcanon) and michael gough's toymaker as the head and most powerful of all the toymaker's. the toymaker is a truly terrifying character and a character that you wish to never meet. even in the nightmare fair the doctor said the time lords gave up trying to trace his history as they got fed up with all the games. oh and as a closing piece of lore from the nightmare fair from a piece of dialogue exchanged in chapter 5. the doctor mentions that the toymaker created the space time vortex only for him to reply with "I am the space time vortex."

That’s a super interesting comment and I think I agree I like the original depiction of the Toymaker more as well, I was disappointed that they didn’t show just how manipulative he can be and how much he can bend the rules and also that we didn’t spend more time in the toyroom itself playing more complex games that he can really take advantage of, but I am glad they bought him back and I thought Neil Patrick Harris did a great job of portraying him too. Hopefully he makes another appearance soon and they take more inspiration from the original Toymaker so many of the points you make remind me why the original Toymaker is so good
