The reason why most Africans have curly hair is to defend themselves against UV rays while reducing conducting heat. When you have hair that twist in a spiral, you cover a larger surface area without the addition of more follicles. It doesn't make sense to have more follicles in a warmer environment. This is why those with blonde hair have more hair per square inch. This generates more heat. Great designs for both humans adapted for the heat and the cold.

+Akira dreemurr How does that make sense? The scalp is just a piece of skin like any other in the body. I don't think it's any more susceptible to skin cancer than say the skin on the back of the hand, which, of course is practically never covered. Shouldn't that mean everyone should get skin cancer on their hands?

Feynstein 100 yes it does make sense, have you ever seen a bald mans head in the sun? It's literally shining from the intense heat on his skin, not to mention the scalp is supposed to be covered in the first place, because it's way more sensitive than your skin on any other part of your body. Then the top of your head is closest to the sun at all times, it's the part of your body that gets the most heat. Your logic doesn't make sense, you don't get dandruff on your arms or legs from heat/dry skin, your scalp is sensitive and functions differently. Oh and your scalp doesn't have as much melanin as the back of your hand, which Is why it's lighter.

I have naturally curly kinky hair and I LOVE it! The only dreadful part is detangling ugh it takes me forever to properly detangle. At the end of the day it's all about learning how to deal with your hair, buying the right products and maintenance. Curl hair is very high maintenance! Other than that I love it, I never straighten it I keep it curly and wear it with all its glory! It gets hard to deal with sometimes but I wouldn't trade it for the world great hair comes with great responsibilities! ❤

I'm thankful to have curly hair because my hair is so thin. when I straighten my hair, there is not volume at all and it looks like I have no hair. When my hair is in its natural state, it actually looks like I have hair.

Milk and Cookies My hair is naturally curly, it runs in the family and is SO annoying. It takes a good 10 - 15 minutes to untangle it in the shower and is beyond help normally. I can't let it grow out or it will look terrible and tangle up so badly it'll look like I have a birds nest in the back of my head. It looks great cut short though I guess, but it's not worth the trouble. Straight hair looks fucking fantastic.

If you have really long hair with a semi loose curl pattern the weight of your hair is dragging it down and stretching the curl pattern out . That's probably why you don't notice it except for at the ends or when it's cut short

I've always wanted to know why I naturally have two different types of hair texture. On parts of my head, my hair grows straight, while on other parts of my head, my hair grows frizzy. It has been a mystery to my hairdressers for my entire life. Neither of my parents have hair like this. Do you know what it could be?

it could be the your hair follicles are different in different regions of your head. since your parents didnt have it, it may have been a recessive gene passed down on of your parents rather than dominant

something pretty interesting i've noticed. i have naturally curly hair but when my family lived in saudi arabia for a few years i feel like the intense heat from the county made my curls a bit looser. but when we moved back to alaska my hair went back to it's tighter curls. can climate really effect hair like that?

Saudi Arabia might be quite hot, but I don't think it would be hot enough to change your hair especially because the heat was not concentrated on your hair. But since you're saying that they only loosened up a bit...umm it might be possible? I'm really trying to learn more about this myself so I'm not sure .

Heat itself doesn’t have a huge effect on hair to my knowledge, but humidity does. When it’s humid, my curls get much less defined and my hair becomes more “frizzy” where in low humidity environments it stays relatively defined in its curl pattern

My theory is that all those people are descended from a common ancestor who suffered from Down's syndrome. I'm not trying to be offensive or racist. That seems like a reasonable possibility to me.

thats an interesting thought but if im correct downs syndrome is not a genetic condition and is only caused by pregnancy complications but i can see where your coming from cus some people with downs syndrome do have a similar look.

MIke Kelly Down's syndrome is a genetic condition, mate. It occurs due to an extra chromosome in the zygote.

oh yeah duh i forgot. although my theory would be that the eyes are a more aesthetic thing that manifested from sexual selection. kind of like birds with crazy feathers. i just cant imagine there is a survival advantage that adaptation.

I have straight hair that doesn't like to stay in anything I try to do to it. Curls or anything of the like fall out quickly despite the amount of hairspray or gel or what have you. Makes me think that my hair has super regeneration as the bonds weakened by the heat are springing back too quickly.

I hypothesize that the neurons of some people can also display a sort of curliness in their developmental stage when there are links being made to other neurons. This would determine how wide/large of an area they might develop interneural connections in. Perhaps people with neurons that are more linked further apart in space have more abstract/creative thoughts than people with more closely knit neural connections. Myelin sheaths might also be related to allow for nerves to extend further. Possibly also related to why Einstein's brain had more cross hemispherical connections than average.....On that note, I wonder if something analogous to a Brachistochrone curve applies to neuron pathways.

I think it's cause people in Europe have devloped straight hair due to a lack of warm sun. The curly hair and looser versions of it is essentially an afro.
