That's the problem with sport martial arts..while they know the reality they don't necessarily practice for the reality of life or death..lethal vs non lethal..
How do you practice 'lethal' techniques? Without killing sparring partners that is? Seems to me there's two ways. One, compliant partner drills because 'too deadly to spar' Or two, non compliant live sparring with rules / equipment for safety. For my money, learning to apply 'less deadly' techniques against a fully resisting human who is also trying to get you - ie more sportive - has greater value than 'there are no rules on the streets, but grab me with your left hand and stand still'
