Greetings. There is a problem with your thumbnail. The symbol of medicine is the Rod of Asclepius, not the Caduceus. One single snake, not two with wings, which are the symbol of the god Mercury: travel, commerce, and thieves. Just take a look at the WHO logo. ✌

Let's get this straight. 5 years out of med school, dr in training, 58000/year. 60 hrs/week That's not even $20 buck an hour. No wonder you got a side gig making videos. I know you will make more in the future as a fully qualified dr and probably more if you specialize, have your own practice, etc but this isn't fair. You deserve a better wage for the hours you put in. At least a 50% wage increase.
@adamhaikal1735
@adamhaikal1735 2 года назад
He's actually already specializing, he's a GI fellow so he'll be a GI specialist when he finishes his training (3-4 years). But, it's crazy he's only making 58,000 as that is close to residency salary, which usually increases the longer you're in training for. Unfortunately, this all stems from a lack of funding going to medical education specifically since hospitals won't go beyond the minimal "risk" needed to teach a training doctor.
@Praeses04
@Praeses04 2 года назад
Depending on ur specialization, residents/fellows often work 80 hrs/week (that is the "work hour limit"). However, it is well known in grueling surgical specialties that everyone under-reports their hours to 80 so that their program doesn't get cited. I remember a neurosurgeon resident worked out his hourly wage and it was like less than minimum wage...
@conniewilliamson973
@conniewilliamson973 2 года назад
Residents/fellows are drastically underpaid because it's a sort of "apprenticeship". As soon as he's a practicing attending his income will probably triple or even quadruple.

I have no clue how old you are, but it’s an old school mind set. If people talk about how much they make, companies will be held accountable for the wage gaps. Speaking about finances is a pretty new thing on a mass scale. I’m American and we add moral standing to income. So you don’t want to admit you’re poor. Or brag that you’re not. It’s a way to control the masses.

I'm in my 40's for context. Growing up it was drilled in you should never discuss money because is "tacky". The concept is outdated and was created to keep pay disparity within industry and organizations on the DL. Its dumb and it handicaps teens and young adults. Talk about money, ask questions, don't be bashful please. We don't all need to suffer not understanding money and how to best utilize it just because our elders did. I hope we see more transparency in finances. It shouldn't be taboo. I didn't know I was making 28k less than a male peer who I am his direct supervisor because I never wanted to rock the boat. This was a really harsh lesson I learned at the ripe age of 32. A full decade in my field and it never occurred to me to advocate for myself because of the conditioning to not talk money.

It pleases me that you are getting some money from the good work that you’re putting out for us to watch. If you make money doing your hobby, then we will get more videos to watch and I really do enjoy your videos. I learn more about our health system and medicine and how Physicians are trained. I think you deserve every penny you’re paid. thank you Doc Schmidt

Both you and Dr.Glaucomflocken suddenly started to show up as suggested shorts, but since I almost exclusively watch RU-vid videos on my chromecast, I don't always watch them. And though I wish I could stream them in my TV, I've had some time to watch your shorts on my phone, and I just subscribed!

Normally I would be overly envious of you for making so much money but the good you do in addition to your dr work by educating the public with humor erases any bad feeling I would have if you were a normal RU-vidr that really only wanted to make money at any cost. I really love your content.

Thanks great video. I didn’t bother with the shorts when they first came out. You know change and all. But once I started now I’m hooked. I think a lot of people are like me.

Hi! I don't normally leave comments, buy I wanted to say that I appreciate your candor. That was really enlightening. As a bit of information trade, I came across your shorts first through the recommended videos while I was scrolling through. After seeing a few really interesting skits and a bit of research, I subscribed. I really like your content, and so do lots of other people. It seems like that is compounding and RU-vid is taking initiative to introduce your content to new viewers. (Also, to help understand my POV: I am not an active user of any social media sites and RU-vid is currently the only way I consume content) I hope that helped provide some insight and clarification!

Your honesty is what makes this video so interesting and finally RU-vid seems less mysterious. Good luck. As a health professional myself it's your depiction of patients that usually tickles me. Especially the one where the older teen keeps deferring to his Mum.

Honestly dude, I didn't look at that much doctor content, and your being an early YTShorts adopter meant you algorithmed super well. What I'm saying is some people didn't know about how much they'd like the life of a doctor and you just showed them. You're probably influencing some people to be doctors
