I FIGURED IT OUT! I did an experiment that allowed me to figure out what rank past RLCS pros would be if they played today! In this video I show what rank you would need to be to compete in each past RLCS season. Are you good enough to compete in season 1 of the RLCS? Find out in this video!

I grabbed 10 of the most experienced ranked coaches and had them judge the rank of games from various RLCS seasons. I didn't tell them that they were watching old RLCS replays though. They thought they were just recent ranked games so the answers they gave were completely unbiased. I averaged out all their answers for each season and put it together in a timeline to reach the final estimated ranks for what you'd have to be to compete in each season of the RLCS. The experiment turned out much better than I thought considering the season lined up almost perfectly in order of lowest to highest rank. It really shows you that these coaches know their stuff and estimated the ranks pretty accurately.

Don't forget that in those early seasons they reached that level without any tutorials or guidance from higher level players. I wouldn't be near my current rank without the abundance of help on RU-vid and Twitch. Respect 🤝

@@ernestryles at that skill level, ceiling shots and flip resets weren’t really needed since they could still score some basic shots. They only use those mechanics now because the defenders are so good
@ernestryles
@ernestryles 2 года назад
@@jadenhurd7187 No, they literally were not possible. It had nothing to do with ability. You couldn’t do those mechanics until Neo Tokyo (the original one, not the standardized one) was added to the game, and they made it so you would hold your flip if you fell or drove off of surfaces. That addition made ceiling shots and flip resets possible. Before that, there was no way to do them. Season 4 was the first RLCS season where they were possible.

I've been playing rocket league and watching RLCS since day 1. I'm C2-GC1 now depending on the day and the teammates. The thing is, a lot of people who were casually playing in the beginning had no competition to push the advanced crazy mechanics. Imagine starting the game now and being inspired by the crazy stuff you can witness, as opposed to queuing in lobbies for entire months without seeing a single aerial.
@fogpivvl8341

Inspiration really does speed up the mechanics process. That's why I hate when other new players act like they're better because they ranked up faster. Omg. I remember the rise and fall of kuxir97. I remember discovering him on twitch in xmas 2015 and being absolutely fucking amazed at the skill of this person, my jaw literally dropped. He never really spoke on stream so he just let his gameplay do the talking, he became this mysterious deity kind of figure within his small community lol. His mechanics in those early days were on another level to everybody! He was the first pro to legit include double touches in his play by about 6 months, long before Deevo went op with them in season 3. The community was raving about Kronovi back then but kuxir97 was quietly dominating in the background with his unique mechanics and his team... Then his success with F3 in MLG and all the the weekly tournaments they were in 215 and 2016. F3 were the best team in the world winning virtualy everything for like 18 months. Rlcs season 1 was the only upset i can recall where they lost to ibp, even someone like Kronovi went into that final being the underdog against them. Then kuxir went from being the best mechanical player in the world to being the best all around competitive player. He was really a big innovator in the mechanics department, the kuxir twist, kuxir pinch, defensive shadowing. He used a ds3 back then because you couldn't adjust the deadzone sensitivity in game and a ds3 would give you a lower more responsive input. Then he was the best 3's player in the world in season 2016. Then in season 2 to about 4 he became the best 1's player in the world for around a year or so along with scrub and he used to dominate 2's with marky. Kuxir was everything at one point within different times. Best mechanical player, best 3's player, best 2's player with marky, best 1's player, an innovator. Back then there was quite a big jump from the best players in the world to all the other pros. Unlike today were a lot of pros are just so good.

Love the video, but from personal experience I can say 100% with full confidence, last season (Season X) was not 2k mmr gameplay... I was 2037 last season and although it was a very high level, against a full pro team we just had no chance. It's difficult vs them in ranked alone, so when they're in a team with people who they mesh well with and have a lot of chemistry, it's game over. I can also say that their consistency compared to anyone that isn't pro is astounding and completely unmatched.

Awesome video ! I always wonder why RL's pro players are so much younger in average compared to other tier 1 and 2 esports. Your video clearly shows how much the game has evolved, and how difficult it must have been to stay at the top for long. I wonder if the current generation of pro players will push upwards the average age of retirement since they already master so many mechanics. One could argue that new mechanics will be found, but I don't see the game becoming that much different. Any opinions on that ?

I gotta say seeing this now with players like Zen, Dark(?), and Rw9 makes me appreciate how far the game has come

As a relatively new RL player I’m always fascinated by how people picked the game up so quick and became pros so fast. I always wonder how they found pros so early on or how new players even realized they were “pro” level.

There was a game they played before Rocket League called Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars.

You gotta realize, the people that became pro early on grinded the hell out of the game. There was about a year between the games release and the first RLCS. Not only that but many had previous experience in SARPBC. If you no life a game and average 30 to 40 hours a week then you'll end up with about 1500 to 2000 hours over that year. These numbers might seem high but that's the kind of hours a lot of people that go pro put into the game before they even reach the pro level. As for how they knew they were pro level, well they were getting matched with other best players, placing highest on the leaderboards, etc.

Personally I think most of these ranks are supposed to be a tad higher than they ended up being. I'm GC1 and if I played some of these games rated as such on ladder, I'd be convinced they're smurfing. Then again, I can't really blame anyone, as the gameplay just looks so different from usual ranked.

I think the coaches mainly judged the ranks by mechanical ability and underrated the positioning and consistency of these players. You see it all the time, old pros returning to the game get placed in GC3 and easily make the push into SSL.

As a Plat I approve your disclaimer. To my fellow plats who think they're hot shit. Watch one of your replays days after playing and just see how bad we really are.

So after like 1500 hours, I’d only be in RLCS 2... the skill gap in this game is just incredible!
