Now we get to see him with coach Chauncey, Dame, Simons, Grant, Nurkic, Shaedon, and others 🤙 I hope he thrives in his new role- I think it’s going to a perfect match!
Thib is not a good coach to me, he's just average but always burns guys out and keeps his rotation to small during the season. He also doesn't like playing young guys and is not good at developing players. It's wack and unprofessional that he's not communicating with Cam.
I don’t agree with the young guys part. Thibs just values the effort on the defensive side a lot, thats why Mcbribe and Quickly gets do much minutes because when they are out there you see them playing hard on defense. Reddish is probably better than them both offensively but on defense he doesn’t bring that hustle. I like Reddish I think he could be an X factor for the Knicks because he has the potential to score 20+ points any given night. Idk why Thibs plays Fournier over Reddish
I love coaches like Thibs because he's simple. Either you can play or you can't. Put your game on the court and shut your mouth that's it. So many Knicks fans overestimate Cam like ATL didn't give him up for a bag of chips. Thibs is going with who has the best chance to win not developing players. If this team wanted to rebuild they shouldn't have hired Thibs or paid Randle, Fournier, and Brunson all that money
@datboy196 he did that because they were losing and he had his back to the wall. Homie was about to get fired. How long did they suffer with Taj Gibson working hard but stinking it up? While Ob and others stayed on the bench? D Rose was burned out while IQ, Knox and other young guys had the short leash playing and looking over their shoulder for every little mistake getting benched. Even when the season was done and it was nothing left to play for.
People need to stop blaming coaches when it comes to Reddish man. He avareged close to 30 mins a game his first two sesasons and shot 37%. At DUke he shot 35% averaging 30 mins a game and starting every game. At some point we just have to come to terms with the fact he can't shoot. Doesn't matter how good his form looks at times he has never shot a high % in his entire career including college, and on top of that he doesn't rebound or pass the ball. He doesn't deserve any sort of starter type mins, he isn't a rookie, he is a veteran. If he gave consistent effort on D he could be a + starter even with his incredibly inconsistent scoring and shooting, but he doesn't. He plays defense when he wants.
@@gamble777888. As a coach how can you count on a player that plays hard when he wants to??? Dude has not taken advantage of his opportunities and soon they will run out.
The reason Reddish isn't playing is exactly his answer... It takes self awareness to crack NBA rotations- the fact that he doesn't know why he's not playing shows me that he lacks that awareness. He also has been given too easy of a path until now (because of his supposed potential, his size and athleticism) and it seems like he is having to get over himself now. He hasn't really shown consistency since high school.......
That might be true but Thibs as a coach should help him to tap into that. If you have a player who obviously has potential and has already helped you win games earlier this season and you don’t help him tap into or at least start down the path towards that potential it’s on the coach. He lost his spot in the rotation due to injury and was playing well before tweaking his groin. Grimes got hurt and upon his recovery was inserted back into the lineup. Why can’t the same be done with Cam? His length would help them tremendously on the perimeter and the last game he played he kept Steph in check guarding him on the wings and posing a problem for Steph to get good open looks because of that length. Thibs is wrong for how he’s handling this situation and doesn’t seem to want to coach up talent. Sims is another guy who just sits on the bench and should be playing but yet is another casualty of Thibs’ rotation philosophy. Can’t develop talent if they don’t play
It really doesn't matter How Cam Reddish got to the NBA! He is there and he has proven himself to be a threat when he is given a shooting opportunity! The problem with Cam Reddish is his consistency! Cam Reddish needs a coach who will nurture and develop his mind to readily overcome this inefficiency by relegating his shots to those shots that he can make! In other words get Cam into rythym by giving him the confidence to make mistakes, and play through them and learning how to hide these deficiencies! You need a MARK JACKSON FOR THAT! Get rid of this scarecrow coach, with tin man tendencies!
@@darnellwilliams8783 I know talent when I see talent the same way y’all called Wiggins Markkanen fultz bol bol lonzo Darius garland Ingram all bust after there first two season it takes time and perfect fits to maximize young players talent not everybody drafted to the right place cam was traded to newyork knowing it wasn’t a great fit for him players like cam Doesn’t even have to be a star but in the right situation jus like the players I named he’ll most definitely breakout put him on the pacers magic piston rockets lakers spurs thunder hornets cavs jazz heat I Bett you cam would find a perfect fit knowing those teams need wings and if you can see cam gift for the game how skilled of a player and how smooth he looks with the ball you clearly never picked up a ball before and was on the back of the bench giving out water bottles on the side line casual …..
@@ClaraInstalledAimbot@spiveyschannel490 it’s really simple. He’s just a guy in the league. Due to his size and athleticism and skill, he’s gonna be a veteran 3&d guy for about 8 years but never be a star. It is what it is.
I wouldn't hold my breath. He had many opportunities in ATL and never capitalized. For every really good game he has he will have three terrible ones. He's just not good.
People gotta remember that Anthony Edwards made that quote about Cam Reddish IN HIGH SCHOOL. Cam hasn't shown any consistency since playing against guys that were all shorter than him.
@@heymikey6793 Cam wasn’t even the third best player on that Duke team half the time. He’s have one great game every few weeks then go back to being a streaky shooter with no depth to his game. He’s just not that good.
@@heymikey6793 He did not play at a high level in college. In fact people were routinely disappointed with his performance. The three of them were supposed to go 1,2,3 in the draft during college pre season.
Thibs doesn't want him and just benched him after starting him. Now who knows what's going on behind closed doors in practice but with RJ missing last 6 games and when Grimes missed a game Fournier played and Cam collected dust on bench! Now that was telling how it must be personal with Thibs.
I mean... would you really even wanna call Cam's number off the bench if he just sits on the bench with his hood and towel over his head. He straight up wants to move on and it's time to move on from him
@@mikengo6055 Cam was playing 20 min night got a groin injury and was told Grimes is starter ( who missed training camp and 1st part of season) and he wouldn't be in rotation. Had he been playing like Knox or Ntilikina then it'd been warranted. Far better defense than RJ or Fournier, complete with 6'8 length and wingspan. Occasional 3 and effort he was giving so clearly Thibs has a problem with him that is personal. So I'd put towel over my head too with these shenanigans from the coach.
you don't know this. You don't know what happens in practices. If Cam is slacking, his all his shots.. why give him minutes? Fourier is a true pro. He sat on the bench but he stayed in shape and when was asked to play, he hit shots. You cannot be sure Cam would do the same.
Dope video! I'm a fan of Reddish as well. I Believe Thibs didn't really want him to begin with when I recall the trade talks possibly but the Knicks still pulled it hoping he'd give him some PT, to which he didn't. I think as good as a coach Thibs can be, he's very irresponsible when it comes to playing his players too much and running them into the ground, without really taking any accountability for himself (at least, it seems that way.) I think Reddish is interesting because he should get more PT, but based off his effort, at times can be hit or miss (while you don't really get that with someone like Grimes.) I also feel bringing in Brunson didn't help because felt it could've been a point forward setup with Randle/RJ bringing the ball up more, with him starting in that extra slot. Curious to see if he gets traded or not, and if so, where he ends up.
basically it. If you're that good, outplay your current role. He's never been able to do that. Atlanta was praying for him to rise up to being a #2 option after Trae, but he could never be consistent or stay healthy. He would be handed 20-30 minutes a night while stinking up the joint, clanking pullup jumpers off the backboard
For those that don't watch Knicks games, Cam had a VERY long leash for like the first 20 games of the season, he shot poorly, was out of control on offense a lot, gambled on defense far too often, and genuinely didn't look like an NBA player at all. The game was simply moving too fast for him. Every time this guy makes a video, I'm reminded he's a casual.
man what are you on about? he didn't have any leash until that sixers game where they HAD to bench fournier (before that he played over 20 mins 2x, one of them being opening night where he played anything but poorly), and when he was in the starting lineup after that he got more comfortable and played well, was giving good defensive effort and scoring when he did touch the ball. in fact his stats when he plays 20+ mins this year are 12pts 1.5stls on 50/40/90 splits. there's no way you justify giving deuce mcbride and jericho sims a combined avg of 26 mins a game and cam gets DNPs, especially when we need scoring + defensive length on the wing off the bench. sounds like you're the one not watching
@@r2richburg So about half of his games he's decent then the other half he isn't ... Need consistency from him. Once youre in Thibs dog house you probably not getting out. Cam costed himself millions.
@@corduroyslippers5808 how can i be consistent when my minutes have been anything but consistent since i got there? people said the same thing about obi, but clearly when he's given proper minutes he's a productive player. conversely IQ has been just as inconsistent this year (tho recently he's shown a bit more consistency) but got ample chances/minutes to do him and work thru it despite the inconsistency. all i know is the stats say when cam gets 20 or more mins he's productive, and adds something we need in the rotation. thibs petty grudges/stubbornness gonna be his downfall just like it was everywhere else he's coached
As a Knicks fan he’s been given chances he’s just too inconsistent for his own good plus there’s other players on the team that impact positively on the team than him. He couldn’t start over Kevin Hurter at ATL that was a major 🚩
He actually did start over Kevin (and Bogi after signing his big deal from Sacramento) his 2nd year. Kevin didn't become starter again until Cam and Hunter got hurt. He came off the bench his 3rd year because his dumbass requested a trade during the offseason after the ECF
@@Steps.To.Sucess ability to score is just one factor. For example alot of players fall off because their IQ doesn’t develop to a professional level. Some have poor work ethic, etc.
Need to make an update now as he is a starting five used in a different role. So happy for him as the Lakers wanted him badly even during his Alanta days.
To put it quite simply, he doesn't play like he wants it. He doesn't play like he wants to murder the opponent on both ends the court. There's no dog in him. You can't win chips with guys like that.
I dislike Reddish for the same reason I've always loved Westbrook. Russ brings it every night, every quarter. Always energized, competitive, and intense. Cam will always be inconsistent and periodically flash his potential and skills, but the drive, the heart, and the beast mode just aren't there.
I’d like to see Cam play with Luka, he could really show his talent without being held responsible for outcome of games. Dallas needs athletic length that can score and switch the pick and role. Cam has the size and athleticism to be do it. He’d be appreciated in Dallas, where no one would want him to be the #1 very often. He can also run the floor, helping a struggling to get fast break points team.
I want Cam to shine on the Knicks but I don't think Thibs trusts him at all. Similar to Kevin Knox, there have been times when he's entered the game just wasn't ready to play. Look at the Dec. 3rd game versus the Mavericks. It was an early Saturday afternoon game and Cam was super sluggish coming into the game, turning the ball over and taking so bad shots (It's like what were you doing the night before?). It was one bad game but he was out of the rotation completely after that. That tells me that this may have been a reoccurring them with him. IDK, but I hope he gets another opportunity soon, he's got upside.
Being a professional basketball player is a lot more than throwing down Monster dunks or dishing off Dimes to the next Prince of Mid-Air, it takes attitude or the ability to get along with others and grasp the concept of what the meaning of team means especially on an NBA team!!!
"I think I can be a star" HOW ABOUT YOU JUST GET SOME MINUTES??? Winning your state title says nothing about your national rankings And on and on... HS phenoms fail in college College "player of the years" fail in pros Knowing not much about him beyond this video- sounds like the guys that went undrafted but were "uber talented"
You know who else had "insane potential"? Michael Beasley It'd be cool if he figures it out but I just don't see any sort of consistency from him at any level outside High School.
Totally agree with your evaluation, however I also feel that the team having invested in RJ, does not welcome a direct comparison in their performance, and to avoid that, Cam pays....front office/coach wanting to save face!
He doesn’t sound like he’s in good spirits though. When your coach won’t even communicate to you what it’s going to take to get some PT that’s gotta be insanely frustrating
If anyone has noticed, the Knicks have had some down streaks due to key injuries. Robinson, Brunson and RJ have all had injuries at different moments. It proves that we need all of our starters to be healthy in order to have a successful season, and we all know this team is capable of beating just about everyone of these teams in the NBA. We have the talent, we just don't have consistent durability right now. It happens to all teams. Give it time.
Cam Reddish had one of the highest bust potentials of his entire lottery class. Too many times, we get caught up in HS or AAU hype, and ignore the actual potential to develop.
@@jaydadon6915 What do you consider a chance then? He was bad at Duke, on the hawks and on the Knicks yet you guys keep insisting that he just hasn't gotten a chance
@@georockmann7113 after he came back from injury he showed out in post season specially game six when Trae was still injured, he’s defensively looked like a young kawhi, he shot 40% percent from 3 the next season before being traded to the Knick for Fortnite player for no reason despite playin well and the coach loving him. Then reports come out that his coach didn’t want him. So would u say that’s a chance?
@@jaydadon6915 He shot 38% not 40% on the hawks. Also he was still only shooting 40% from the field and averaged a negative plus minus and net rating. If cam really was as good as y'all keep saying he wouldn't have been traded. Teams don't make moves like this just for the fun of it. He just isn't that good and unlike you guys a lot of nba teams aren't waiting for him to get good.
I agree with you on still having faith in Cam to turn it around. I still think Thibs is a great coach but its stuff like this why so many call for him to be fired, there's no way Fournier should be playing again and Cams not. It makes no sense. I could literally see it in a bunch of games I watched earlier in the season, Cams offense and defensive gifts he has along with his size and length can turn into a great player but the right coach needs to give him the confidence and help drive and mold him into it. Sadly I think his careers just gonna be a huge waste of potential at this point but it's far from too late. Just how the nba goes though, if cam doesn't find the right situation after the Knicks since thibs stupidly gave up on him I only think cam will have one mire chance on the next team. The league is unforgiving.
Cam reddish fans are like a cult. He hasn't been that guy since he left highschool yet his fans are still convinced that he's a superstar in the making. He was bad at Duke, bad on the hawks and now he's out of the rotation for the Knicks. Even if he'd be out of the league in the next 2 years people would still swear on their life that he just didn't had an opportunity instead of admitting that he just isn't that good
I feel like he hasn't figured out how to be a role player. Basically every player who goes to the NBA is the guy before they enter the NBA. Then they get to the league and they more often then not have to lean into what they do best and be a role player. Some guys just can't figure this out and then they bust out of the league. To me Cams just another one of those guys.
You say that like this even exist? Where are you from? Lol I live near Duke and they don’t even really exist here, but clearly you know some big time Cam Reddish fans 😂
As a Hawks fan I was excited when we got Cam and always wondered why we didn’t play him. It has to be something the NBA knows that we don’t in my eyes he’s a starter on a lot of teams I don’t get it.
When did we not play him? He played 25-30 minutes a night and started majority of the games he played in his first 2 years before demanding a trade, all while being overall terrible offensively and hit or miss on defense. NY didn't give him a chance, but ATL had more faith in his development than any other team in the league would have. Cam started at SG over a big money FA in Bogdonovic. He never got benched, he got hurt with an achilles injury then didn't get healthy until the ECF
@@corduroyslippers5808 he never fell out of Atlantas rotation, that’s the point. He requested a trade after the ECF. That’s the only reason he was brought off the bench his 3rd year, and also the only reason his minutes dropped. Look at year 1 and 2: minutes, games started and production
I haven't watched this video yet but the main issue with Cam Reddish is that he left Duke too early. All these one and done players would have much better early pro careers if they played through more college situations.
Yo… He’s in the right spot right now. The entire league can now see the real talent Cam has. Lebron will definitely keep motivating and that’s big for his confidence.
suck to see cam still struggle thought he would figure it out by now he has the potential of young pg with his size and good perimeter d very sneaky too with the ball but he must be in the right system still have faith in him tho
The reason in my opinion as to why things happen to top prospect players is because when in high school you play how you want to, transition to college you HAVE to play the way college coaches expect you to play and also he played with two guys who were top 5 NBA picks, and once you get into the NBA guess what, you gotta play by the NBA rules or you’ll just be another “what if” player hopefully this makes sense to some but if some disagree cool but I’m just saying from the way I see it
As a Knicks fan, I hate seeing Cam Reddish benched, also you gotta remember that Thibs is weird as hell. He keeps his rotations small as hell for no reason
I love the Knicks and Duke, big Reddish fan. The number one issue is that he is a better player when the ball is in his hands to create for himself or others. He is not the sit in the corner shooter that people want him to be. Should be the primary ball handler ,no but he can allow IQ an opportunity to run and make plays off of the ball. Secondly, because he is a laid back individual and his b-ball game is smooth, people think he isn't playing hard. He isn't a finished product but if he ends up in LA or Portland, you will see the difference.
If you put a great player in a situation where there’s already a hierarchy in place the young guys will suffer. Take a look at Malik Monk, who was drafted to the Hornets. Amazing player with crazy skill, but Kemba Walker was already the man. Malik would should crazy skill and balled out, but unfortunately they wouldn’t let him play consistently so he became inconsistent. He gets traded to the Kings and the man is balling out and showing his potential. The same thing is happening to Cam Reddish. Great potential, but no one is willing to give him time to properly develop. Stay Focused!
Please let him come to the Lakers just his size alone will be a big time boost. We lack size on the wing so badly. Troy Brown is decent but another 6'8 athletic wing would be huge.
There’s not enough discussion on Cam’s flaws in this vid. Cam doesn’t play because he’s not good. He’s an inconsistent defender & an inefficient offensive player. That’s why he’s underachieved everywhere outside HS. There is no anti Cam conspiracy in New York.
If the Cavs can get him on the cheap, I'd take a flyer in a trade. But he needs offensive efficiency and serviceable defense. Garland, Mitchell, Reddish, Mobley, Allen...at the very least I could see him with Rubio, Dean Wade, and Kevin Love with the second unit.
Knicks need a wing. But no one is addressing the elephant in the room…They have one but Thibs won’t use him, why? Please don’t tell me because he is injury prone. How many times have good players been hurt. You would rather trade a player and picks to find a wing but you already have one. Guess draft picks are easy to come by. If you want to sell your car do you let it sit under a tree gathering moss and leaves or do you have it ready to be test driven? Knicks ruined any chance of getting anything worthwhile by not using Cam, so what did they gain? There is more to this then is being said.
Think about it. Every one says “back in high school” he was a problem. 6’8 and athletic? Wash. In the league however against grown men, that high schooler Is getting schooled on the highs and lows of life in the real world. He never had to work as hard as he could and now he doesn’t know what it means to reach that other level. You can’t not start from the bottom and reach the top as you have no idea what it took to get there. Case in point
He needs to play with older legit superstars who he respects, all-star vets with leadership skills: Reddish and Mykhailiuk to the Lakers for Walker and D. Jones.
Cam was a fool to request a trade from ATL. Now he’s even deeper on the bench with healthy DNP’s in NY. Now he has to request ANOTHER trade to a different team. All this does is ruin is rep. He should have rode it out in ATL. He’s approaching his 3rd strike in the league and he’s still just on a rookie deal
Idk how this is hard to see. Thib is a defensive minded coach and he loves hard-nosed players who work hard for not just themselves but for the team. Cam really doesn't fit this criteria.
His attitude was all wrong. He felt entitled to a starting spot in both Atlanta and NYK, two teams with a lot of talented young players. And, at the same time he lacked confidence in his game. And it results in maddeningly inconsistent play. You cannot rely on him to make a 3pt shot when needed, or play for a stretch without making a big defensive lapse. He has potential to be a great defender and a very good shooter but if you want to be starter... you need to be consistent or no coach will ever trust you. What does he expect? He wasn't a top lottery pick... and he wasn't because he lacked confidence and faded with Zion and RJ on the team.
Stop the cap. Cam has been given numerous of opportunities to showcase his talent. I was a cam fan but I can no longer defends his game. Dude just not that guy. Way too inconsistent, defense is poor and shot is shaky. Last year he got a chance and when he started looking good he got hurt. Then he started 20 games for us this season where we went under .500. Grimes makes our team better which is why we in the 6th spot now. I understand you like dude but he offers this team nothing and it’s his 4th year and nobody still doesn’t know what type of player he is. That says a lot !
i’m a huge cam reddish fan and want him to succeed so bad but he’s always been put in a bad situation. he was one of the first to commit to duke then rj and zion committed to duke stunting his play, then getting drafted to atlanta a win now situation which didn’t let him develop properly, then gets traded to NY which i was super happy for he gets to play with rj again and gets to develop…but thibs just straight doesn’t like cam 🤦♂️ yes ik he’s somewhat injury prone and is inconsistent but how are you supposed to play/get consistent with inconsistent minutes…#freecamreddish man 🤦♂️
