I totoally agree! I put a 72/68 turbo in a non-HD 2500 5.3 with lq9 cam & ls3 2yrs ago, it's an absolute blast like your blue truck is described. Slam the gas and the wastegates are opening when it finishes downshifting. BTW one thing that helps response is a 2-2.25" crossover. Most people do a 2.5-3", but that's way too much for under 1000hp. All it does is create lag with zero HP gains.
As someone else who has a boosted towing Silverado, I agree with everything you've said. Stock (small) cam/converter is the way to go when using them like a truck.
Same thing richard holdener preaches. Keep the stock cam, converter, heads and put a smaller turbo on it. Everything on trucks is setup for the best low down torque from the factory already
Hey I’m so surprised I found this video but I just traded my truck for that quadasteer yesterday that’s crazy I just thought it was cool awesome video brother
Excellent video. Thank you for explaining this. I haven't been considering a turbo, but the t4 could be a great add to my build. It's so true that you want power down low. How often are you revving around 6000, even when not towing in one of these lol?
I’ve always wondered why there hasn’t been any talk on stuff like this coming from the factory for a diesel alternative/ option or add on for gas trucks.
Lots of good stuff in this video! I just bought an ‘05 2500HD 6.0 for light plowing and winter driving. My 2WD ZF6 Duramax does all the summertime work. Would you say either setup would be any better than the other for my plowing and occasional towing activities? I have a Duramax roller with rad and intercooler (and piping too but I doubt I could use much of that). I have a set of new Camaro cast manifolds I have thought might be helpful, as I need to fix my leaky stock ones anyway.
I would go with the latest 7875 w/ the 1.25ar exhaust housing and run a 4" exhaust. The duramax intercooler pipes won't fit, as I have tried. You'll need a t4 turbo log on the passenger side and a stock truck manifold works fine on the driver's side.
Keep these vid going. I have yet to find much info on a turbo setup for a 6.0. I have a 2018 2500hd 6.0 with a stock VVT cam. What’s your thoughts on a cam for it and a turbo was thinking of staying stock on the converter not looking for a race truck lol. Just want it to tow my 8k lb rv better. Thx and good luck with the channel.
I did a gen v 6.2 with a cam and headers, and it made 409 whp and 433 tq. I would try the stock cam, or do dod/vvt delete and do a low 200's duration cam. The latest billet 7875 with a 1.25 ar.
guy nearby me takes the stock convertor and cuts them then adds a smaller Dia turbine side and keeps the clutch side stock. Basically allows him to take the stock convertor from 2500rpm stall to 2800 - 3000 and still have a larger clutch. perhaps somebody makes a convertor like that with a triple disk
I have a few build videos of the 1500hd. It has a 450lph in-tank with a hydramat, 100# Holley inj, pqy return style regulator. Once I get the red 2500hd back together...I'll try to get some towing videos. I just got the Yank triple disc back today...and they loosened the converter up to 2500 rpm and now I'm waiting to get the transmission back.
Do you have any driving videos of the Quadrasteer? I picked up a GMC 1500hd QS truck last week myself. I forgot how pathetic these 6.0 4l80e trucks are stock! I would like to do something similar to what you've done there. Nice and simple.
What's a good way to contact you? I'd love this done to my truck I tow and would love to know everything I can. I have 2 6.0s just like you ones 373 ones 410 but I'd love to get both done
Lol, the good ol GM Average mpg readout is always way off. My 2500HD says I get 7.7mpg but I know damn well it get more than that and I have 37 inch tires on mine.
Did you do anything to the transmission? I have one I’m planning on boosting. After watching your video I’ll probably stick closer to a stick style driveability
Great info sir, you also work on your pastors' vehicles, I see, lol So at the end you say you would rather have a bigger exhaust housing but would going from a .96 ar to a 1.25 not hurt the spool time drastically? I guess if your goal is big HP then thats what you would want.
Yeah, he has a 97 Chevrolet Z71 that keeps me busy. I say the larger ar on the 7875 because with the 6.0L, it makes a ton of back pressure and a 1.25 would help alleviate that. The .96 is a 3" dp, and the 1.25 is a 4". I don't think it would affect the spool time between those housings. I have run a cast 7875 1.25 on a L77 in a Caprice ppv, and it was pretty instant.
@MPKPerformance Awesome, with every video you post I'm getting closer and closer to just pulling the trigger and doing my truck lol. Thinking about just throwing a 5.3 in it with a properly sized turbo since my 6.0 is TIRED and I've got 2 good low mile 5.3s sitting here. I figure if I can get boost low enough it should t be much differance in TQ than with a 6.0 but I dunno.
Ive teated several setups.. Best combo i found with a LQ4 was a 206/214 .553/.553 115 and a S475/96. My next setup will be a S468/96 with next size up A/R. Also some Water/Meth always help keep everything nice and clean inside.
So i recently purchased an 02' 2500 HD 6.0 gas burner. Its a normal just cruise around toy truck but i also want a little more power too it. What affordable turbo without having to change the cam would you recommend me getting? Thanks, and im a new follower :)
I got a 1500HD quadrasteer with 273 rear. What would u recommend to get make it faster? What would you recommend for a exhaust setup if i wanna turbo it, because I waned to do headers and exhaust first and work on the engine when I have more money? I don't wanna screw myself. Don't know much about this stuff yet Thanks
My daily/tow rig is a 1500hd and will be buy stuff for a turbo kit soon. Looking at a VS 7875 t51 turbo and Trick manifold setup. What fuel system parts would you use for a pump gas setup around 500 who?
So if this was a half ton set up. Yukon/sierra ect.. What turbo would you go with. Same set up as this hd1500. Just add a turbo. Some daily driving some towing.
Do you think a T6 would work better (towing) with a 408? Im worried about the T4 choking the exhaust when pulling for long periods of time through the hills
I still think a t4 would be the way to go. I'd get the largest ar available and run a 4" exhaust. You want it sized where it spools in the lower rpm so you can use the power. Also, a short duration cam helps with tq production.
@derekr1854 I've reached out to huron speed, they are recommending T6, I also have ported 823 heads going on this 408, I'll probably run the s480 they are recommending. I'd rather it spool a little slower and not have back pressure egt problems, than light instantly but melt the pistons out of it while pulling up a long grade
@derekr1854 it's going in my 03 2500HD, ported 823 heads, 408 stroker bottom end, fast 102mm LSXRT intake, whatever boost it will safely run on pump gas with water meth injection. 5.38 gears on 35 in tires, shooting for 700hp, wouldn't mind more though. Based on some other trucks I've seen on RU-vid I think that's pretty reasonable.
Do you think that 7875 will work well on a 5.3? I have a 2007 NNBS Silverado with the LY5 and I have that turbo (On3 7975 .96 AR and 3 inch V band). I was going to purchase a 70mm turbo for the 5.3 but if I don't have to, I won't. Do you think the turbo I have will work well for towing?
@@MPKPerformance thank you. I could never get a straight answer for this question. Like I said, I was about to order a 70mm turbo for it but if I don't have to, I won't. I also have an LY6 for the truck just in case the 5.3 gives up the holy ghost. Not looking to make all the HP. Just all the TQ. Truck is mainly a cruiser, hauler and tow vehicle. Thanks again!
What fuel do you run only thing available in my area is 87 octane and diesel no premium unless I drive 45min to nearest city and all they have is 91octane and it's ify if they even have that at times😬
My 02 1/2 ton on 20s n 33s stock 3:73s extended cab with a cammed 6.0 swap is going through similar issues the power is not down low at all 2600 stall it feel like a turd as a daily needs a lot of throttle to get movin I haven’t tried to tow with it yet. And I have a Texas speed stage 2 225/236 629/615 114LSA 660 springs on 317 heads
We just swapped a 4.8 from a stage 2 turbo cam to a summit tq cam and it made all the difference in the world. It has 200/205 with .550 on a 113. The crew cabs don't need the duration a lighter vehicle does.
