Hi Tim, I talked with the devs a lot about the row number based on data source order feature for Prep (it's been one of my most-wanted features for Prep) and the devs were really just focused on files. I don't know exactly why they didn't do databases, I suspect from my conversations that it was a combination of 1) a standard SELECT query in most databases has no guarantee of record order so users could get confused when a given record would get different IDs on different runs on Prep and 2) there's already the ROW_NUMBER() function that can be used.

Thanks and great job, as always, Tim! In case it helps, I've found the Acceleration feature enormously helpful in making massive data sets in a multi-tenant environment performant.

These are good features. I really wish they would allow formatting at a granular level without the need for helper columns. Such as bolding specific text in a table row or axis.

Hi Tim, Hive is the database of Hadoop and the abbreviation for "Amazon EMR" means Amazon Elastic MapReduce (EMR), I agree also in my understanding two different connectors, thanks for your great video, best, Robert

Hi Tim! Thanks and great job) Do you know is it possible to query the Tableau Server Postgres database to see what workbooks what sql request send? Actually, I have monitoring report where can see sql requests with output_rows, network_bytes_sent and ect information by each query (but I do not see the wb name). So, do you know any posible options to monitor slow query by workbook (name)?

Hi Tim - Love your videos! Hope all is well. I didn't see anything listed for Dynamic Zone visibility on the server. Will it be available in 2023.1? I am using it in my desktop waiting to be able to publish to server.
@TableauTim
@TableauTim Год назад
Zone visibility came out in 22.3 which was a server release. Server comes out in the .1 and .3 release

24:20 - FYI: Admins can download workbooks in personal spaces
@TableauTim

Interesting. I thought they could only see the asset. Might need to publish a correction on my personal spaces video.

This is the wording from the docs: help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/personal_space.htm#privacy-in-personal-space "Content saved to your Personal Space is only visible to you and site administrators. Site administrators can’t directly access any user’s Person Space or edit content in someone else's Personal Space, but they can view and manage Personal Space workbooks. Personal Space workbooks appear in administrator search results and as a workbook location on the Explore page. In addition, the permissions menu is unavailable when a workbook is in Personal Space because the workbook is private." It feels a little ambiguous to me. I read this as.... An site admin can see you have a workbook in personal spaces An admin cant browse your personal space They can delete content in your space by managing the workbooks they can see but not directly whilst browsing in your space

@@TableauTim Yep. It is a bit weird. I just know this b/c we needed to "replace datasources" for a bunch of explorers (b/c explorers don't have Desktop). So I downloaded the workbooks in each user's personal space, replaced the datasources, and then published to another folder (b/c I couldn't publish back into their personal space). We then instructed them to overwrite the workbooks in their personal space with the "copies" I published.

Hi Tim, Awesome video, i love how much you know and share about Tableau!! I have a question please - how can we use Tableau for freelance work without having to buy our own Tableau license? Could we use Tableau public and save the workbook & send the file over? Please let me know as I cant find the answer anywhere and thought you would know best practise! :) Thank you
@jonbarnes2424
@jonbarnes2424 Год назад
Hi Jannah. You can't save a Tableau Public workbook locally. Tableau Public requires you to publish the workbook and data source on the public Tableau server so your client's data would be publicly available.
@allthingsjannah
@allthingsjannah Год назад
@@jonbarnes2424 thanks Jon. So you’d either need to connect to the client’s system and access their Tableau instance or buy your own license?

Hi Tim - How about Image Role for Server? I did not see that listed for 2023.1.
@TableauTim
@TableauTim Год назад
It's there: www.tableau.com/en-gb/products/new-features server features always follow cloud so if anything release in a quarter where server doesnt have release usually comes out int he server release as well.

For the UAFs - do you think there is any application beyond embedded apps? It would me amazing for things like RLS if they interacted with something like Okta, for example.
@TableauTim
@TableauTim Год назад
It might be part of the laying the groundwork I suggested. In all honesty o think these exist to make Tableau work better with Salesforce and a side effect is we’re getting them now for our own use.

You can tell I’ve been off! My goodness I forgot to set the audio type to mono on my new timeline ! Using a slightly higher quality timeline. I monitored it from single source rather than stero source as well. Mistakes like this make everything that come after hopefully even better.
