What's In My Diaper Bag 👶🏼👜
I finally packed my diaper bag with a newborn in mind. I really want to keep my diaper bag as minimal as possible and keep extra things in the car at all times like extra diapers, wipes, clothes for newborn, myself and daddy, swaddle/blanket, diaper baggies, pacifier, etc. What do you keep in your diaper bag for a newborn and 0-3 months?

You definitely need more when they are tiny! More diapers, more clothes because of blow outs and spit up, more clothes for YOU because of blow outs and spit up 😂. Big bag, tiny baby. Smaller bag, older baby ♥️

If one has to carry clothing for themselves because they're too scared to walk around with whatever their baby gets on them, I don't believe one is ready for a baby just yet....

I have 4 kids and one thing I've learned is that extra outfit you store just in case should be one you don't really care if they wear instead of one you like because you'll forget about it if it never gets used and eventually baby will outgrow it without getting to wear it! :) congrats!!!

Amber Hunt I’ve always stored the next size in the diaper bag. That way if it doesn’t get used I pull it out & can still be worn while in that size. We’ve only had to use the outfit once in 3 years thankfully.

That is so true! Great advice. Same with when I send in an extra outfit to school for my kindergarten kiddos or when they were in daycare, it rarely got used and then by the time I got it back, it didn’t fit. Definitely put just a random outfit u don’t care about as the back up.

From one mom to another. I would recommend way more diapers. At least 10 depending on how long you'll be away from home. Also another tip would be to keep extras in your car. Always best to have more then you need lol. You are a glowing beautiful mommy to be! Can't wait to see your new baby! 😍

After having my daughter I discovered that it was nice to carry a “smaller” diaper bag out and about but to leave a larger one in the car with lots of extra diapers, wipes, clothes for you and baby and any other items. As baby gets older you can add in extra snacks and blankets. Once I figured that out it was so nice to just run back to the car if we needed an extra diaper or something. I’m currently pregnant with #2 and working on finding all the baby stuff we stored.

@bethanyjacobs6124

You need more diapers, a whole pack of wipes (don’t bother with the cute cases, they’re useless. You’ll be refilling that thing daily when you could just toss a whole pack in and be done), and at least one extra burp cloth. Pick something super absorbent, like the white diaper clothes. Super cheap and effective. Also the organizer is great but when you’re changing a newborn in public, or in your car, etc, you’re gonna want to have easy access to those diapers and wipes. Don’t shove them down in a small pocket, put them on top or just free in the bag so you reach in and grab easily. It’s all about convenience with babies in public.

I always carried a big diaper bag when my 2 boys were born and then after they turned 1 I switched to a smaller bag. Personally, I always carried at least 10 diapers, bc you never know if there will be a blowout, or if you're changing them, and they immediately pee right after you change their poopy one. Lol Mine did that... A lot. Lol Regardless, you'll learn what's best for you guys and baby, after baby gets here. There is seriously no one size fits all for moms and babies. I think you'll be amazing! Oh, and A & D Ointment/Diaper Cream was a fave for us. After starting using this, my kids never had many diaper rashes. Congrats! 💕

With my first AND second baby I imagined it in my mind everything I will need and use and when the reality hits your plan will be totally different. I love watching first time moms pack diaper bags! Gather the essentials. Enjoy the fun. Be prepared! Repack as you get to know your baby. Hats were useless for me. I ended up carrying my purse with two diapers a pack of wipes and a change of clothes (bottle things when I used formula) for quick trips and having a day bag packed that I kept in the car. All this is so cute!

It's super cute how you think a small bag is good for a newborn and you only need a couple diapers. Wait until you need your last diaper and the tab breaks! Diaper bags don't stay organized either no matter how hard you try. I recommend having an every day diaper bag and then another one in the car with more diapers, clothes, bottles of water (if you ever use formula) and a paci. It is a learning experience. No matter what advice you are given and follow it is a learning experience and it's not one size fits all. Good luck on your mommy journey!

Two outfits is definitely recommended for baby, more of you're out for longer than 2 hours. A shirt for you as well. You never know when you'll get spit up on or pooped on. Definitely 6 plus diapers. 2 is for when you are low. I also overheated whenever I would breastfeed. I would get these hot flashes until the baby was done, so a cold water bottle or a little fan would have helped me a lot.

Receiving blankets were my best friend... they are the workhorse (besides the mommy) of newborns. I always carried at least 5 in the diaper bag. They were great for swaddling, a make shift changing pad, a burp rag (and you’ll want a couple for that when you’re out, so you always have a clean one that doesn’t smell like spit up), a blanket, and a washcloth when dampened.

Hi you two, I wish nothing but the best of luck. Mal, just remember when things start happening stay as calm as you can. I had two babies naturally with no block , the breathing will save your sanity Lol. Just stay calm, your husband needs to get in your face and tell you to breath. Instinct is to hold your breathe but that makes it hurt more so Andre needs hold your hands get in your sweet face and yell at you to breath. Then rest between contractions! I know everyone has mentioned at least 10 diapers but I would recommend getting scratch mittens to cover the babies hand when they are born! Normally their nails are sharp and they will scratch their face! Also, velcro swaddles are amazing! So much easier when your exhausted and tired at night!! Also, I would get a small container to store the binky/pacifier in! If you want to invest in pacifier wipes, those are great too incase you forget the pacifier clip! I know it's a lot but I wish another moma would have mentioned some of this to me before I had our son! You're glowing and I always love watching you!! Hope you and Andre are doing okay during the craziness in the world! Y'all are going to be great parents and happy belated Mother's Day!! (Edit : since you're breastfeeding I would recommend some nipple balm because it can be painful when the baby is learning! And can feel chapped kinda!)

You TWO!!! You are the best couple! I just love watching you and I'm way past the age (56) for most of the things your videos are about. I love how down to earth you are and how your videos are for your average person, not your fancy schmancy gal that most of us aren't. Im very excited for you both and your new little family member! I have a suggestion: keep a "backup" of wipes, some diapers a swaddle, and some jammies in your car for those extra blowout or barfy days. Pack it in a plastic bag and tuck it in your trunk so its out of the way and you forget its there. Then when the inevitable happens, and it WILL, you will have a rescue bag. My daughter (now 27) used to get car sick on trips 30 minutes or longer if she ate before we traveled. I learned to keep this backup handy. Bless you both!

When baby was smaller I know I carried wayyyyy more than when she got older. When she got older I was more in tune with her needs so only carried what was necessary and accessible. But definitely a lot more outfits and diapers. However if this is for the hospital, I truly think you don’t need diapers since they are provided and will give you some for your way home. Maybe more outfits.

A great addition is a wet/dry bag. I used to store the extra clothes in it, so when the wrecked ones went in, the new ones could come out. SkipHop has some good ones. Their products are super functional and well-priced. Also, if it's a boy, a peepee-teepee is a good idea. I agree on the comments regarding more diapers, more wipes (the whole pack), and only packing extra clothes you don't love (they do tend to get forgotten). The rest will change organically over time. I was surprised to see how "wrong" I was about what I thought I'd need. It's all a fun learning process.
@alljessedup
@alljessedup 4 года назад
Oh, forgot to answer your actual questions... My bag started BIG and got waaaay smaller over time. I cut it back to the bare minimum (food, diapers, clothes) and left toys, creams, blankets, etc. at home. Having a diaper clutch was super handy, since we could just grab it out of the bag and take the baby to the bathroom or wherever to change. No need to lug the whole bag everywhere. I mostly left the big bag attached to the stroller, like an extension of the stroller instead of myself. I also ended up with a big bag both me and my husband liked (cross-body/messenger with tucked in shoulder straps) since I really couldn't handle switching back and forth, and there was always a chance he'd end up carrying it. It also lessens the chances of losing something.

I recommend coming up together with a naming convention for each pocket. So when you are trying to communicate to dad to pass you the XYZ, you are not trying to describe the location: it's in the front, no the other front, I call that side the front, in the 2nd side pocket, no the smaller one.. Instead you can say: it's in the fox hole. Boom. Especially handy when travelling. Or when it's an emergency (i.e. bodily-fluid related). Congratulations on baby :)

I have two kids... When packing for the hospital the only thing we "Needed" to bring was the coming home outfit. The hospital my children where born in they supplied gowns, blankets, hats, Diapers and wipes. You might want to check with your hospital or center and see what rules or what they could suggest. For mommy bag I brought 3 gowns, a robe, shower shoes and a hair bow. I also should add that I had to have a c section with both of my lovely babies. :) The only difference when packing for that is make sure you have some comfy clothes to come home in and shoes you can just slide on. So excited to see all your videos as time grows closer!

So exciting! I preferred to take a Cross Body Bag that was less stress in my back. I Always had a few diapers, wipes, change of clothes for the baby, sanitized soother in the bag, etc. BUT, When you have a young baby, it’s not likely you are going to a location that takes you far from the car. So..with my 3 kids, we always had back-up supplies in a small Rubbermaid type tote in the vehicle. That way your not carrying bulk that’s hard on your joints. Trust me, after 3 kids those heavy seats and bags can wreak havoc on you upper body bones and muscles. This was my chiropractor’s suggestion, and it was genius! Good luck and God Bless 😊

I definitely agree with everyone else in regards to having at least 6-8 diapers in your bag. Also, keep your wipes somewhere in your bag that you can easily have access to. When I had my daughter, I wanted to breastfeed but it just didn’t work out for me so just in case you can’t either, you’ll definitely want some insulated pockets for extra bottles. I can guarantee you’ll end up needing the bigger bag when they are still small. My baby is 17 months and I’m just now starting to look for a smaller bag. Good luck! You’re gonna be amazing!

You should get a Wubanub. It is a pacifier with a stuffed toy on the end, so instead of attaching to the clothes, it rests on the baby for something to snuggle. You can also find that pacifier easier. My grandkids had them and love them. They wouldn't take any other pacifier. Also, they are recommended by dentist teeth development.

How much you need really is going to depend on where you are going and for how long you will be gone. A grocery run certainly does not call for 10 diapers. I never carried a change of clothes for myself, but what a great idea! A top at least.

I would definitely use the big one for newborn and small one for when they are bigger. Baby Tylenol, thermometer are essential items

My jaw has dropped, my eyes are wide!! For day to day outings with a newborn I used to just put a Terry nappy (square cloth diaper)and a little bag cow a wet nappy in my coat pocket, a muslin (burp cloth?)in the other and off I went!! For the birth don't do what i did for first baby which was to pack a good book!! No chance to read! But yes, something pretty and comfy to wear, lightly scented toiletries and snacks!! Hope all goes well! What a wonderful event to look forward to. Xx

Get yourself a wetbag for when baby has accidents, you can wash and reuse, they also make fun character ones. Also disposable bibs and sticky placemats. They are convenient to have and easy to dispose.

Also you can get cases for the pacifiers- you'll want it sterilized before baby has it and the case if you sterilize it too will keep it that way

One tip would be to put the pacifier in a paci pod or paci holder to keep sanitary for baby. And don't forget the lanolin or nipple cream you're using, I preferred coconut oil. Congrats mama! Love the bag.

Hey! I'm so happy for you guys! Just want it to say to add an extra clothes also for dad and extra diapers, newborns use soooooo many diapers. The extra clothes for you and your husband can stay in the car. You can use the big diaper bag that you bought to leave it at the car. But you guys are good! Love the bags by the way ❤ Also, enjoy the new life you got ahead, it's awesome and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

I'm a minimalist, so unlike most folks here I definitely kept a smaller bag when my gal was first home and have sized up as she's grown. Keep in mind, though, that breastfeeding stools are often looser and more frequent, so you may need to shop around for a brand that works best for your bean. Pampers worked best for ours and Luvs leaked SO BADLY while we were breastfeeding. My essentials when she was first home (she spent two months in NICU): 2-3 small burp cloths (I used muslin washcloths), 5-6 diapers (with a refill station in the car), wipes, disposable changing pads by munchkin (we reused them several times until they were grossly soiled, then tossed them- that way we weren't having to stick a really gross changing pad back in the bag), diapers balm and a travel bum brush (I hated getting the paste on my fingers), just one set of clothes (more in the car) for her because we were pretty on top of changing her in a timely manner, protein bars and water for me, and a spare shirt (and pants, if needed) in the car for me (that way you're not lugging it around unnecessarily; you may need a couple spares, though, depending on if you have a strong letdown and leak readily and/or if you end up with a spitty baby). Also, I liked to keep gas drops and sometimes gripe water (chamomile, to calm babe) in the bag, just in case. Congratulations! Can't wait to see y'all dive into parenthood, and can't wait to see that sweet babe of yours!

Great video! Great essentials! But I must say having 3 kids, I never needed to carry an extra outfit for myself just in case 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a nursing mom. You will find those pads will not work. They will get wet and so will your clothes. What I used was a new born diaper cut in half and put in my bra. It will prevent leaks from coming through due to the leak proofing as a diaper. Worked deL well for me!

I'd add baby nail clippers and baby file because if he grabs something and splits a nail, it could scratch his face up pretty quickly. Also, always good to carry a small bottle with a little bit of dry formula in case something happens to YOU and someone else needs to care for him for a few hours or so. It's always good to know someone CAN feed him if necessary so he won't be hungry. Enough for one, max 2 feedings is good just in case. Otherwise, more burp clothes to wipe up spills/puke and a couple more diapers and you're set.

Beadreauxs Butt Paste. Best bum cream I ever used. Diaper bags are for diapers, sweetie, at least 12, and a decent number of wipes. Cotton cloth diapers are the best burp cloths. I always carried at least two changes of clothes for my son, an extra shirt for me, breast pads, lanolin for nipples, receiving blanket for cover. The best diapers I found were Kirkland from Costco, btw. And lastly, all natural Gripe Water. My little one had tummy troubles and hiccups like mad...gripe water cured them instantly. It was a miracle!

I LOVED my Pacopod nappy/diaper bag which I got given when I had my firstborn son (8 years ago) and it was amazing!! Lasted me 3 years with him, I refused to let it go after it was no longer needed so it was stored and then when my second son was born, pacopod came out again! They are a great investment and I cannot recommend the brand enough! Anais&Anais do the best Muslins in awesome sizes (you can never have too many muslins) & don’t forget an eye mask for hospital, they can be bright and sleep can be difficult an eye mask helped me so much with my second son! You can be as prepared as you think you need to be and then BANG, you realise after baby arrives you need completely different things..it’s literately trial & error..my biggest tip...think you have enough vests/babygrow/diapers/socks in your bag, you don’t, add another 2! 💙💓👌🏻

I would recommend way more diapers or use your bigger bag as a back up supply bag that stays in the car. Also include a couple of extra tops for yourself.

You may want to add a few bibs. They tend to dribble alot and when they get bigger they slobber when teething.

I don't know if things have changed since I had my last but I was told not to use a pacifier for a breastfed baby. It's confusing to them because the sucking motion is different. I always carried at least 5 diapers on me unless it was just a quick trip somewhere but you'll know better once you know what their bathroom habits are like. I'm trying to remember everything I had in my first diaper bag lol. The only one I remember was the duffle bag I had to carry when I had a newborn and a toddler.... 2 sizes of clothes, 2 sizes of diapers, snacks, drinks, toys etc for different ages.

You definitely need more diapers. Some babies when they’re tiny hate being wet and need changed more often. Plus it’s just always good to have extras. I would also put nipple cream in the diaper bag since your breastfeeding. You never know when they get dry or irritated. I always tried to use it every time or every other time they nursed. Depending on where you’re going I would say make it easy to throw your spare set of clothes in the bag. It’s so much easier to run in a bathroom and be able to change everything at once if you’re at a store. I hated having to go back out to my car and back in. As my kids got older I took out the swaddle blankets. I added a couple toys teethes. As they got older I tended to just have a fuzzy blanket they really like and always kept with them. I would also suggest a cart cover for when they get bigger and want to sit on their own. A lot of them are made to be folded up and have handles. I just keep one in the backseat pocket close to wear my baby is so I can just grab it. Good luck! I’m excited for your baby to arrive!

Newborns to 4 months-- 6-8 diapers, 3 outfits, entire pack of wipes ...just in case. As soon as you have them you won't need them, but if you don't bring them, you'll need them for sure!

I would carry a minimum of 6 diapers, Bum cream, 2 spare outfit. You never know when your baby will have a poonami. I remember being out in a restuarant breastfeeding my baby and she had the worst diaper explosion... it went straight through her clothes and onto mine. Not great
