Excellent video. Was thinking of making a new panel from sheetmetal someday. I would likely run the holes with a milling machine, but it seems like it would be quite a hassle. The manual has a nice 2d CAD template for reproducing the layout. The unit is very neatly designed. They must have a heck of a design department! They must be having fun.
There has been a Moog M-32 faceplate on eBay for over a year now, sadly it doesn't ship to the UK as this would be a cool project too! I've considered using my cnc machine to replicate it too!
I've had my Crave for about 8 months now and It is my Daily driver and gets a lot of abuse. I can be rough on the patch bay, pots and switches and so far no issues. I'm constantly finding something new and making patches is fun. It sounds great on its own but really comes alive when you add some effects pedals. I use a Mooer Red Hat multi-stop it brings the Crave to another level.
Without a doubt...! Had one of mine running through the fx rack recently, the other one is still in bits! Lol Its easily my go-to box for bass...! And it's still capable of some great sounding clean leads, I just love those 3340's... glad you're enjoying yours so much too!
I've been doing electronics as a hobby for 40+ years without a strap and not once have I nuked a "static sensitive" component. Also, you missed out the comma after that!
@@Studio-solutions-com it sounds really nice. Prob nowt like a tb on an oscilloscope, but really crunch and rubbery with lovely sweeps. You know the routine with these things - presence is great
i have now got 3 of these...crave 1 + 2 sound very similar but crave 3 sounds very different, the sensitivity of the filter/resonance is different - do you know if it is possible to calibrate the filters so that they would all sound the same?
"We got our two cheeks apart and our knobs out", did you work on that line or did it just happen? ;-) Interesting video that got me thinking. Since you have both the Crave and Model D, would you say the filters sound the same? Both machines are 'inspired' by Moog synths, so if my Craving for some Moog sounds becomes strong enough, would the Crave be another alternative to the D or a Eurorack ladder filter in your opinion? Cheers
Glad it made you chuckle..! Nope, the craves are totally different to the Moogs, tbh I much prefer them... the CEM3340 chips always sound much cleaner to me!
@@BWPT. it was a gift from some mates on site, they do festival recycling... every year they do a christian festie near Peterborough, they blagged a handful of laser cut coasters off a guy doing a workshop there, said it was their recycling logo!! Lol 😆
Plug a mono lead into the vca out and use a continuity tester from the tip and sleeve on the other end of the lead to the solder points on the board to work out which point is which... 😀
@@Studio-solutions-com They were dressed in full militant black when I saw them.....penis envy era....feminism ruled.....no naked bodies....excellent gig
@@sitjar just up the road from me..! I was/am a fan more than a follower... but their politics and the events started by Penny and Wally Hope have certainly been instrumental in how my life has panned out...!!
@@Studio-solutions-com thanks buddy I'll take a look I also like the MS1 but that's because before I became a punk in the 80s🤪my mate had an sh101 which I fell in love with All these years later as I came back to electronic music I can finally afford one 😀
In fairness very much like crave Toss up between MS1 and that Was thinking of hooking up a drum module beringher and maybe a bass module with the above Any thoughts?
@neillatore6975 The real question is which are you going to get FIRST? lol Are you planning on using them live or for recording? The Crave is a perfect bass machine and is capable of much more than most people imagine... definitely try one out 😀
@@Studio-solutions-com haha brilliant No just home recording Make music with reason daw Interesting it's a bass line generator as that means could ghost that and head for the drum machine 😀
I first thought that you wanted to replace the orange case with another color :D :D (Black would have been better imo) don’t forget to paint before mounting it back :D :D
That's not a bad idea, it would look good but there's no way I could remember all of the patch points lol I was wondering about masking them for painting, and then masking them so they remain after removing the paint too... Im going to check out overlays and see if I can find something which I like?
@@dearvice I think you overestimate how much time I have!! Lol But a brushed metal chassis with the labels letter punched into the metal would look bloody awesome!!! 🤣
Yeah it's marked Cool Audio CEM3340... There's a few other IC's... a ahalf dozen of the same types which I can't remember, but the VCO is very much a 3340!
Ooh....you are awful. I've always wondered how best to part ones cheeks. Should I ever need to do same with my Neutron..... A perfect demonstration Pete! Seriously though, it's fascinating to see what's inside these newer synths. Ever more compact in design and arrangement.
So very little to them Steve! I'll give a better run down on a few of the components when I start soldering next week! Was going to message you last week BTW, the M-VS1 is being "quirky" ..! Changing patches it will change the patch number, but stays on the same clean piano patch until I go into each patches settings and re-enter Rx channel and toggle a few other settings then it changes... performed a factory reset on it but still not just scrolling through patches... cant figure out what I'm doing wrong?? Lol
I can't come up with any suggestions on this one Pete, other than to check that the buttons are clicking as they normally do, and not stuck/lost their springiness. Having said all that, page 9 of the manual does mention about needing the correct settings for Prog Chg or Bank Sel, which need to be switched on otherwise the sounds will not change when pressing the usual buttons, which sounds like what's happening with yours.
@@spacedrifter1961 yeah I've been reading the manual again lol I'll look into it more over the weekend! It's been nice using it again though, even in a restrictive capacity! I need to put aside time to take a load of samples from it too...
Page 5 elaborates on those two settings. Yes, I feel privileged to have one of these. When you consider it's packed full of so many iconic 70's patches taken straight from not just Roland stuff, but their competitors at the time, I'm not sure if there is any other piece of equipment that offers the same experience.
