Hope you're not wearing any clothes made from mixed fibres on that fire line, Leviticus says that's a nono too.
@itsweebtime3461
@itsweebtime3461 9 лет назад
+WillEyedOney You understand that the work he's doing is firefighting, correct? And that he isn't even being provided with food that gives him the nutrition to make up for the energy his body is spending doing 10+ hours of work a day, in gear that weights nearly a hundred pounds, all the while risking his life. And you want to bag on him because he has a religion, which he didn't even preach , only mentioned (Not even going into to detail about it) just so people can understand why he can't eat a ham sandwich?
@masterkeep
@masterkeep 9 лет назад
+WillEyedOney It specifically says only to not mix linen and wool. A quick search pulls up that the priests were commanded to dress in a certain way and the mixing would have someone looking like them [much the same as a person imitating a police officer is illegal today].
@WillEyedOney
@WillEyedOney 9 лет назад
+masterkeep "do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material" seems pretty clear to me, no need for the rabbinic reasoning to excuse non-adherence to the law.
@masterkeep
@masterkeep 9 лет назад
+WillEyedOney If you ignore Deuteronomy then that would be so. Deuteronomy 22 clarifies the commandment that it is specifically about wool and linen. There is no tricks to getting around when the clarification shows it is supposed to be specific.

+WillEyedOney I don't see a giant uncut beard or payot (long untrimmed sideburns also commanded in Leviticus)either.
@williamwazere

Honestly that looks pretty ok. you wouldn't want to live on it for more than a few days but it has carbohydrates, a little protein, salts...not too bad for hiking around and working hard. I can't speak to any religious issues with food so I'm not sure why those products might not suit some people. I wonder why they don't just use american MREs, it would be more stable and simplified. maybe its purely cost when all the numbers are checked.

+zero_sum It's the pork and the candy in that lunch, mainly. Leviticans go by Leviticus in the bible where there are prohibitions against eating pork (carrion eater, non-cud chewer), seafood without scales and fins, and certain types of plants. Same thing with heavily processed foods. It's kind of similar to Kosher dietary restrictions, and it's actually a pretty healthy diet. Disclaimer: I'm not a Levitican so I'm not an expert but I've read about them.

Cody, that avocado was a total score. I have been eating the veggie lunches after I got a cooked burger that was nearly frozen. I have been working nights as a radio operator. Veggie lunch has been a mix of all the same things of adds but PB&J and a bagel with cream cheese, carrots, humus & chips. Had to laugh at the salted nut bar. I tried my first one a few nights ago. Not to bad.

+Wranglerstar, I totally understand your video. I am Jewish and the first sack lunch would not be edible. As far as being ungrateful, I dont see that at all, we are grateful for our food that is provided for us, and I would have no problem sharing it with people that dont have the same dietary restrictions as myself. I would also go to the highest level necessary to ask for a kosher lunch. Most places are willing to comply, especially the government. Just because we Bible Believing people work for the government, doesnt mean we leave our convictions at the door. I would ask all things with humility as I am sure you do, and God will open the doors to give you the desires of your heart. Thank you for sharing your faith.

A few years ago I worked at a local restaurant and we would make lunches for the local station during fire season, I'm not sure if it's because I'm in a small town or not but we actually were told when firefighters has certain dietary concerns, and we'd give them either a vegetarian alternative or just make them something special. We'd make them bag lunches with sandwiches and whatnot(with the meat/cheese actually in the bread) and we'd make them a buffet for suppertime in the evening, I really miss doing that because of how kind and helpful they were when we set up the buffet and handed out the bag lunches.

I've packed these lunches myself! At Deli George in Boise Idaho my in-law's answer the call to pack hundreds of these at a time. They include quality sandwich bread and meat and cheese from the deli, condiments, an apple or orange, and some packaged items like chips and candy bars. They are kept cold and flown all around the country, specifically recently to the fires in the Southeast. I'd love to hear if Wranglerstar has ever seen a Deli George brown bag!

I suppose in an emergency like a wildfire, the local government has so much on it's hands it can't cater to everyone's specific custom. Budgets are tight, too. I can sympathize with you, though. As a grunt in Afghanistan, I'd always look forward to eating after patrol. I gave a lot of thought to the food I took on a operation away from the patrol base. When you're breaking your back and doing dangerous work, you really want a good meal during your off time. When you're home, the food will taste that much better. Stay safe.

Ham, pig parts not suited for ham, mechanically separated pork misrepresented as ham and "sausage" were running themes for any government exercises I've been on as part of a SAR team. Nobody ever considered to ask if we needed Kosher or Halal meals for our teams. I always made sure to mention it when I became a team lead and we'd usually end up with 3 extra slices of cheese in place of the pork on a sandwich, or on a good day, they'd snag us Kosher MREs from the local Guard unit.

I suppose I'm an unusual one. I get where you're comin' from with that first lunch, since I'm Buddhist, and we're suppose to be vegitarian/vegan. Through growing up poor, and with a mix of Cherokee and Vietnamese beliefs, I eat what's given to me. To be offered slaughtered animal is regretful, but to let eatable food go to waste is even worse. When procured by myself, I live according to my beliefs, but when offered by others, I have to bend. Admittedly, I just choose to live flexible. People that live hard like a diamond will shatter once enough pressure is applied. Though in your position, I think I'd trade off the sandwich with someone for their peanuts and apple.

If you are hungry enough you'll eat what ever is in the bag. I worked as a Correctional Officer at a prison for years and when we would transport inmates they gave them a bag lunch. And regardless what their Religion was they ate it. Also I noticed certain inmates who were supposedly of a certain religion eating meat.........I'll give you a quote from the Bible in Acts 10: 13-15 "And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat. But Peter said, Not so Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not common. :)
@garrisonaw
@garrisonaw 7 лет назад
armymastersgt Yeah, if you're hungry enough, you'd eat just about anything, but that's no reason for a well-paid contractor to throw together a bizarre collection of... whatever that was a collection of... to feed a bunch of hard-working firefighters. They deserve the best, not an assortment of whatever's lying around. And you have to remember how hot it gets for firefighters, so why would they put cheese in the lunch? It would be all melted - or as he said, "gross" - by lunchtime. I'd have eaten the Spam (because I actually like Spam, and I have no beliefs that tell me what I can eat) and maybe the saltines, but even the saltines looked like they had been around a while. I ate some old saltines once and nearly threw up. If the cheese wasn't too nasty, I might have tried to put the sandwich together and eat it too.
