Cody, first off, thank you for all you do with these videos... and please don't let the haters stop you. You've inspired me to take a hard look at my preparedness, and as a husband and new father I completely agree with your opinion. I've joined you on the mission of stocking up, and although I don't have the resources to be as prepared as you are I will agree, my 20 gallons of stabilized non-ethanol, stocked pantry, and Ruger PCC with a few thousand rounds really do allow me to sleep better at night... I didn’t really believe in doing the whole prepping thing UNTIL I became a father. The fact is, my daughter can’t really make that choice to be prepared for any eventuality. It’s my responsibility to choose for her.

People buy auto insurance, they have medical insurance, life insurance and even retirement insurance (401K)...soooo why don't people have food insurance for difficult times, like job loss, injury etc. etc.

I’m not, nor have I ever been, a “prepper.” But like you said, it takes nothing to go spend a couple hundred dollars on extra supplies to keep you comfortable inside your home for a little while, and that’s exactly what I did today. I’m really not worried about contracting this virus. If I get it, so be it. What I’m worried about is the mass panic and lawlessness that follow situations like these. Don’t think for a second people aren’t going to go to any measure possible to get what you have in a life or death/panic situation. And don’t think for a second the police or your government are going to be there to save you when someone busts into your home. I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t have a false sense of security. Don’t brush it off. Make sure you can protect yourself and your family.

For long term fuel storage I would recommend getting bottles of heat, it's a additive for old fuel, removes water and overall restores the fuel. It's a great product. As for diesel I'm not sure if you are aware that it can gel on you but that takes a really long time. Just some friendly advice.

Running out of resources is definitely the only thing I'm worried about. The people are treating the coronavirus like it's a zombie outbreak.

I'm trying to save for my first home and just got out of debt a few months ago. The idea of spending money on a something that may or may not effect me is something my family would look at me sideways for... but the statement "hope is not a plan" is something I've been thinking about a good bit since I watched this the first time (this is the 2nd). I've decided regardless of what happens this time around, from now on I'm not going to take the (relatively) stable economy and my health for granted. Thankyou for your insights and wisdom Cody.

In the UK...when this all started I took the tenth Man attitude and started preparing. Started storing ambient foods, medicines, household products. Pretty glad I did given the situation many now find themselves in. Never not prepared. Good motto to have I think.

I live in a place where there has been no cases for hundreds and hundreds of miles and there is still no toilet paper.

I live in south seattle, was just in a fred meyer in north seattle... only TP is short supply, but still available. There is PLENTY of food. And for Fs sake, stop buying water. There is zero expectation of interrupted water or electricity. Calm down and dont visit your grandparents. Prep for 2-4 weeks out of work.

I started what you would call part time prepping about 10 years ago by buying whatever I saw on clearance or markdowns, and today I feel that I didn’t do enough.... many holes in my prep. It has been a real wake up call to see store shelves bare. Wish I would’ve done more, and i have about 6 months worth of food stored.

I need ammo. Protecting the storage is as important as stocking it

Spare parts for the generator should include: air filter,vacuum line hose, spark plug, and ...a few sets of brush replacements. These should be specific for your model. Experience taught me this. The brush holders can melt. The brushes can wear unevenly due to variation in excitation electrical design. Peace, courage, wisdom.

Getting the food supplies you need ahead of a potential panic run, just makes sense.

I did the best I could for my family with my limited budget. We're no where near as prepared as you are. I'm praying that this situation does not get out of control. God bless.

Well done, I took care of my family and we are ready to shelter in place for over 6 weeks if needed, water included. No need to leave the house and stand in line with the hoopleheads!

That's a large amount of fuel to store, do you spread it between your buildings in case of fire? Do you think a fire proof store away from the house might be a good idea?

I have said this before... telling your subscribers to prep is NOT fear mongering! You are right people need to have a plan... I do not think this will amount to anything but I'm prepared as best as you can. Better to have what you need instead of wishing you did.

I'm very happy you can prepare for your family like this. I agree with you. It's unfortunate for some people though, because we cant afford to prep. I have many ideas of what I would love but I cannot afford to stock up on food for an extra 3 days after pay day. I'm most scared about formula and water.

It's really useful to understand how to make your own plant based milks, creams, butters, cheeses, etc. from the regular foods that you're already going to be stocking up on that are non-perishables. It's actually not hard to learn at all and during an emergency you may not have WiFi so I think it's best to have as many recipes memorized as possible and also understand how to cook instinctively with whatever ingredients you have

My dad put a hand pump on our well when I was a kid. All the neighbors thought it was funny UNTIL... we didn't have power for several days. All of the sudden, they thought it was brilliant because they could fill buckets with water to have drinking water and continue flushing toilets. Y'all will love it. Keep being prepared!

I've been looking at those Simple Pumps for years now. I'd love one, but if something unpleasant happens before I get one, we may have to settle for a pvc well-bucket with a check-valve and rope, if things get bad. It would work fine, but it would be great to be able to pressurize the home system, and Simple Pump allows you to do that. Congratulations on the new well. That is a big deal. You could name it, like they often did in the Bible.

Unfortunately the majority of Americans don’t have the funds or means to stock up now if they haven’t been preparing prior. And some live check to check and haven’t been able to prepare even if they wanted to.

I live a hour north of Seattle. Was in Walmart today at noon, everything was pretty much normal. They had toilet paper and bottled water. They where out of hand sanitizer. Food shelves where full.

For those criticizing the man for these videos, the man has a kid and a wife and wants them to be safe and healthy. There’s nothing wrong with what he’s doing, and watching his example is a healthy reminder that we’re not infallible to the virus the slightest.

I suppose I could consider myself fortunate that my lovely wife is on board with the whole notion of being prepared. Once I briefed her on the potential disaster of this situation she gave me her thumbs up to procure what we would need. We've been slowly yet deliberately preparing 9 some time but lately it was in earnest. She also has taken an affinity to trigger training & target acquisition. I'd let her cover my six anytime! 😉😊

I'm not as prepared as you. I have family telling me I'm wasting my time and money. Those are the same people who will be banging on my door looking for handouts

Remember when people picked on "nerds"? Now "nerds" run things. No different then people who are mocking and laughing at us now. All I know is nobody better come knocking on my door if SHTF. Im not sure if its fear or ignorance but people seem oblivious to danger these days. People have forgotten what thirst and hunger feel like. WAY to comfortable here in America. I ordered 2 months of meals from My Patriot late on Friday February 7th and they showed up on Friday March 6th. Just in case anyone is wondering where they are in fulfilling orders. Very happy with them.

Prepping is a area you excel at. Have you ever considered taking your skills and using them for your internet for a more digital prepper approach to improve internet speeds, reliability etc?

putting all your food in one building is not a good idea. tornado, fire, theft, etc.

My wife and I installed a simple pump in our well about a year ago and I love it. Even if we have no power and no gasoline for the backup generator, our water supply is secure. I think it's a smart thing for anyone on their own well to have.

All those salty commenters are in line at Walmart right now.

"We love our coffee" kind of an understatement when you've got a container with 720 servings sitting on the bench. It's cool I love coffee too. On a side note I'd love to have the money to get set up like you are, I personally dont see anything wrong with prepping for the worst and if other people have an issue with it well that's thier problem. Ignore the haters they just like to hate. And if the worst comes your points will be more than validated- God bless

My friend don't pay attention or take to heart the negative comments. You and your lovely wife are doing what you feel you need to do for your family. And supplying your needs by being cautious and prepared. That is awesome and always the right thing to do. GOD BLESS.

My mother makes ghee allot she usually takes the large butter packs found at Costco and cooks it in a large pan on the stove. She basically cooks it till it separates and becomes clear. Once that is the case she runs it through a cheese cloth into the jar she wants to store it in. It is super easy. One time she made me do it and i cooked it a little to hot and burnt it a bit. The color went off but it was still usable. Good luck making your own. As always your videos are great fun to watch.

Great channel, being prepared is definitely a good thing. It doesn’t hurt to have more supplies, they’ll get used some day. Personally, I don’t see a large problem. I don’t see a wide spread problem in the USA happening. Every few years something new pops up and they make a big deal over it. The common flu kills more people then any epidemic. I pray those infected get better and a quick cure is found. Buying in bulk is always smart if you have room. A video on small space storage would be helpful to some. Manufacturing is definitely affected. Where I live on the east coast, nothing has changed,stores are full, supplies are plentiful, but that could change. So as you say,being prepared isn’t a bad thing.

"hope is not a plan" love it, may borrow that line. love the video, love your attitude. we can warn people, try to help them, encourage them to forward think and be prepared but ultimately they will do what they want and when SHTF my doors will be closed and the sign on my gate may just say "i told you, hope is not a plan"!

Being prepared is no joke, but make sure it is the things you need and use regularly! During the summer we garden, can and preserve some foods fro our yard, dehydrate others including meats, and dry some spices, this is not done in the preparation of a shift scenario, but more as a cost effective lifestyle. We have 2 wells on our property, one is shallow and I can retrieve water for boiling and cleaning with a bucket, the other meets local code, we heat with a wood stove, and I have a 2 year stock pile of wood. Knowing I don’t have or even know everything about being a prepared, I think a rational mind is the most important thing to maintain in any situation!

FYI. Out of curiosity I went to Mountain House website. Everything was sold out. This is why you need to prepare in advance.

I did exactly what you're talking about right now. 36l of water 20l worth of soup and beans. It won't last forever. But if needed it'll last a couple of weeks. So if the worst case scenario occurs, I have some additional time to think about what to do next. It's not about fear, it never was, it's about being prepared for what ever comes. Hey Mr. W, something a lot of guys forget when they are buying gasoline and diesel to run their equipment is this. Buy oil and oil filters. Buy air filters. Stock up on spark plugs. Also, when buying fuel, buy Marine fuel. It is high octane and has zero ethanol, so it resists absorbing moisture from the air and going bad. Also a good purchase is going to the scrap yard and buying used batteries. Pick up a solar panel and a battery tender. Pick up a 12v inverter. So not only do you have a way to charge your batteries, you have spare batteries if yours go bad in the tractor or truck or whatnot. With the inverter you can run light/mild loads from time to time when you need to off your little battery bank. Charge or run some tools. Charge phones. Run some LED lights overnight. You can argue for hand tools always being there for you, but on finite food rations, it's best to save your energy through the days. Why work hard when you can work smart, right?

Good on ya, you never know when you'll need to lean on your food storage or have something to help those around you. Earthquake, loss of job etc...

excessive heat and cold as experienced in the pole barn will drastically reduce the EMERGENCY FOOD lifespan.......other than that i'm with you on the preps................

We're in an area where the nearest reported case is over 1000 miles away and water, disenfectant, n95 masks, disinfectant ,etc are difficult to find now. It's crazy land out there. Most times living in fly over country is a blessing. We were already well positioned for whatever. No panic in this household.

I laughed at this video the day it came out. I ordered my bucket today. I also did a crazy guy apocalypse food shopping tonight. Man o man.

Being prepared with food water gas for generator wood for your stove whichever way you look at it if you're not prepared they have people that know Medical/ Gunsmithing/ and other small things you might not know prepping goes out the window with your food and water

I’ve started prepping to. I’ve spent 150 on canned goods and water from the store. I’m low income but I’m gonna put 50 a month to this so I have a large back stock of supplies I need when I can’t go to the store.

I’ve been warning my job for months. I just get ridiculed, this week they brought people from 6 states together for a celebration of safety. I begged my boss to not go and not let my coworkers go. Nobody listened. Now the quarantined are starting in surrounding counties. Those grasshoppers are not going to be happy when the pipeline shuts down and the east coast can’t get their gasoline.

Our family ancestors had been prepping since the 1800's and have been passing prepping down the generations and our families have more than enough supplies to last us.

As a first responder, I absolutely agree! Be prepared for worst case scenarios so you can be in a position to help others less fortunate.

It's wise to prepare. I convinced my wife we needed to get a few extra supplies of food and medicine for some peace of mind with this epidemic approaching. You never know what might happen. You don't want to be out in the petri dish to try to get supplies if it gets bad in your area.

I live in seattle, not saying its a bad idea to prepare like this at all. However, the reason the shelves are empty is just panic and hoarding. There is plenty of food on the shelves, its only cleaning supplies and toilet paper that is in short supply. And even toilet paper can be found easily. Almost all of the deaths here were in 1 nursing facility.

Thank you for the information. My daughter is a new mom. She was in the healthcare field and now was working for a veterinarian. She was the 1st to alert us of how to keep things clean.and was scared from day 1. I told her I'll be scared if they close major things like schools or limit travel. Well I was gobsmacked when countries close. I never thought it would go this far. I thought she was panicking.. but as her mom I stood behind her as she posted on facebook. I was concerned but like you said "Hoped" things would be handled. We have been watching as many videos as we can on anything helpful in the event we lose internet use or electric. It is true that what have you lost if you're wrong. That's what I said. I am so upset with people saying it is no different then the flu and how many people die from it. It is an unknown and scary. We are prepared due to our 22 year old daughter and her baby making us be hypersensitive to protecting our family. Bless you for helping this will be what saves those whom listen to you and others that prepare. I too am scared off looters and riots. But have made plans with family on what to do and where to meet up.
