+Diane Gould Diane your mother was a lovely woman, and much respect to your father for his incredible military service. You must be proud to have been raised by such wonderful parents.
Gloria Shiner Williams was born in 1928 and died in 2007. She was a former fashion model. She attended Jefferson High School (Class of 1946) in San Antonio, TX. She married US Air Force Lt. Col. Robert Williams (1919-2012). He died age 92 in Jan 2012. They lived near McQueeny, TX. She is buried with her husband at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
I love it how at the end as she leaves even Dorothy and Arleen are taken enough by her beauty that they watch her walk away. And that dress looks amazing on her!
As a guy, I dont blame Bennett for blurting out those things lol. I would have said it too that she's drop-dead gorgeous. There's another super beauty on WML (another video) and that guest sold airplanes. I couldnt believe that beauty sold airplanes either. .
I worked on a TV show with Cesar Romero. He was one of the most gracious people I've ever met in over 6 decades. A delightful gentleman and true professional.
@@ptaylor4923 awesome. Cesar was the promoter in Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby and he definitely didn't look much taller than those guys. He also was in the original Ocean 11
She's absolutely GORGEOUS !!! Classy, beautiful, THEE most beautiful guest of all time..face, figure, hair, voice, smile, charm and intelligence. What a knockout !! Notice that EVERY member of the panel looked toward her even after she walked off the set. Gloria was a combination of several movie stars: Grace Kelly, Esther Williams, and Lana Turner...but better than all three. Gorgeous woman !!!
jennifer86010 There is no indication at all that she is above average reg. intelligence. But your comment is a vivid reminder how we automatically tend to ascribe all sorts of positive traits to good looking people.
@@Celisar1 To be specific, I did not write "above average reg. intelligence" which was your phrase. I wrote the word "intelligence". Anyone can see by her reactions, her answers and her mental quickness that she has intelligence. But to your point about how "we" (another one of your words, not mine) automatically tend to ascribe all sorts of positive traits to good looking people" that is less true than one might think. Granted, good looks open doors initially, but if a good looking person is mean, arrogant or selfish, in personal, business, or social relationships, they are soon disliked by others, in spite of their looks. In TV and movies it is often a good looking person who plays the evil character, using their looks to manipulate or harm others. I think it is fair to say that very good looking people often become narcissistic, since people are attracted to them and want to be associated with them. Good looking people soon realize as children, that they don't have to try very hard to be praised, accepted or desired, and they carry this attitude through life, as long as they can maintain their good looks. It is a common myth that really good looking people are not very bright, or capable, and are rather shallow and empty, since they can get by on their looks not on their merits. This is true for many good looking people, but not true for all. I had a secretary who literally looked like movie star Grace Kelly. She also was extremely bright, hard-working, efficient, dedicated and respectful to others. She was a total package, too good to be true. She didn't last long in the job, since she was constantly getting job offers. She and her husband wanted to see the world, so she quit and went to work for an airline. Personally, I've been good looking and not so good looking. By that I mean I've been slim, pretty and visually attractive, and I've been quite fat and not visually attractive. Since I am bright, have a colorful, outgoing personality and a well developed sense of humor and comedy, I've been able to make both aspects of my life (slim and good looking, vs. fat and not so good looking) work. However, to support your point, I've noticed distinctly different reactions from people during different periods in my life. When I was slim, and dressed beautifully, all I had to do in most situations was simply show up to an event, meeting or gathering. I didn't have to say or do much, since people were attracted to me, wanted to be my friend or develop a romantic relationship. During my fat periods, people mostly ignored me, so I had to work rather hard, using my energetic personality and humor to get their attention and make them feel good. Friends and associates actually told me that they liked me better when I was pretty and slim, and they were disappointed that I could "let myself go" as I did at times in my life. Eating disorders bring far more complaints than people with drug or alcohol addictions, since drunks and addicts don't always get fat. However, I knew they felt better around me when I was fat, less threatening to them, and since I humored them more, made them laugh and had more fun with them, they enjoyed me despite my being fat. Still, they preferred me to be pretty and slim, but they still wanted my warmth, humor and energy. Over 90% of our sensual input enters our brains through visual images. Unfortunately, people place too much value on images, but it is human nature. As for Gloria Williams, she was a complete package of looks and personality. In 1959, normal everyday American women didn't look like Gloria. Only movie stars looked like Gloria back then, which is one reason she was chosen as a contestant, in addition to the fact that her image was the opposite of her profession. But I would imagine with certainty, that after her TV appearance, she got many offers for modeling and other image-based activities. Personality has a huge bearing on shaping perceptions about appearance. Arlene Francis, who did not have movie star looks, used her smile, warmth and personality to create a glamorous image. She also was very intelligent and intuitive. She was the number one panel star who uncovered more contestant's professions than anyone else on the show. Voice is another aspect of appearance. Over the years there have been many British actors who women thought were dreamy, yet their faces and physical appearances were far less than average, bordering on homely. But their trained voices made them appear dashing, romantic and very handsome. Another aspect of attraction and appearance is confidence, energy and charisma. Men often exude this quality, and most are not all that good looking, yet very attractive. Lots of elements go into attractiveness. For young people, it centers around physical appearance. For older people, looks are desirable, but personality and other factors become far more important...such as a person's wealth, power and influence.
buffalohawk65 yeah, what about her personality...? She just says „yes“, „no“, „sometimes“ and smiles, but bc. she is beautiful you immediately ascribe a great personality to her.
You haven’t watched many WML shows. She’s beautiful but there were several beautiful and many pretty non-celebrity women on the show. Very rare to see Bennett Cerf go “off script” with non-celebrity. He must have been bowled over by her looks.
@@Celisar1 In some ways it's just as bad today, just covert. Add to that, far more drug abuse, crime, murder... Less nuclear families now.More divorce, deadbeat dads and unwed mothers along with people living off the government not working. Beta males and the feminization of men.. Explain to me how all that's better then before?
All I can say is WOW ! This is a real beautiful lady. She is not a fake Hollywood starlet, but a real person. I hope her husband was grateful that she chose him. She could have picked any man she wanted.
The Woman was an Unbelievable Panel Member whose Powers of Deduction , Bordered on Psychic Ability !!!......Let's Face It !!!!.....There Was No Way In Hell Killgallen was Supposed To Have Gotten THAT Close To DAM NEAR Guessing This Ladies Occupation !!!!!.....
Bennett Cerf was something of a wolf with an eye for younger women. He was married to two actresses, Sylvia Sidney and Phyllis Fraser. Sylvia Sidney was a pretty big star in the 1930's. I wouldn't imagine he'd get too far with a lady rancher from Texas. Her husband wouldn't have liked it and Cerf might have had his smart New York ass shot up.
@@RRaquello Bennett Cerf was married to those actresses when he was young himself. He was not married to them when he was in his sixties. What man would comment on a woman's beauty.
@@bighands69 Well, at one time, hard as it may be to believe, it wasn't considered an insult to call a woman "beautiful". As a matter of fact it was considered a compliment. Times have changed.
WOW Lucy! What a weird coincidence! But I hope it was a happy one for you. It's so nice of you to try and find that music. Goodness knows I have tried several times! Thank you for such a pleasant response!
She was a model before she married. I would think that she preferred raising a family rather than being in entertainment. I would assume she did the show because she had contacts in the industry and was talked into doing it. Women of that era had a different attitude to women today. They valued married life and family far more than today's generations. The US Birth rate is not in population decline for no reason.
"Never bubble your i's!" That was a favorite scolding my sixth grade English teacher handed out, and this lady would have gotten that for her signature.
No one - nobody-never,ever has been so charming and attractive and vivacious and feminine and lovely as the inimitable and eternal Arlene Francis.......always and forever.
@KEN RETHERFORD Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ...And there's something called love, too! :) ...And, when someone is truly a person of integrity, and they combine it with a great personality AND they treat you really well...does this answer your question?
life just goes on to meet death one day. i am watching this episode now, and it took place almost 60 years ago. no one of this episode is alive. not this beautiful lady either. all gone and gone forever.....
I was too young to know of Bennett Cerf from this. Our elementary school library had "Bennett Cerf's Book of Riddles" & it was very popular. And, because of seeing this, I looked up that he was one of the founders of the Random House publishing house. Gosh, Cerf is quite the lech. Those comments would be considered over-the-top today.
Bennet Cerf authored and published a number of popular joke books back in the 50's and 60's. He also published all the Dr. Seuss books. I remember a cartoon in MAD magazine, poking fun at Bennet Cerf. They had a shelf of "The World's Thinnest Books" and one of them was "Actually Funny Jokes From Bennett Cerf Joke Books."
Cerf pored on the compliments for an airplane saleswoman on another show where he said she was the most beautiful woman ever to be on the show. Gloria's extraordinary good looks have to do with her other job as a model.
Aside from the classic beauty of this goat and sheep rancher, my Dad met another rancher in West Texas as a kid (pun intended). This rancher had a BBQ and had three tubs of meat, pork, beef and goat. Everyone was eating the beef and pork and no one touched the goat. My Dad peeked behind the barn and noticed that the rancher was onl roasting goats and put them into tub labeled beef and pork. No one noticed.
How many women today in America come close to looking, dressing, acting like Mrs Williams, who is a farmer. Today women dress like they work on a farm.
+Edwin Rivera You got that right! And not just the women--men too dress like slobs everywhere you go. I've seen sweatshirts & dirty torn jeans at a funeral home!
Edwin Rivera Yes this gal is class !! Today what people wear is to their own but I sure wished they cared more about it !! Slippers, very tight leggings so tight underwear is on display! Guys and the underwear fad with the pants waistband around their ankles ! I’d love to go back in time this is a good way to do it !
I might say, she really could have been a model or movie star - very classy woman, beautiful and nicely dressed too. No doubt, Bennett was impressed... Saw many of the celebrities, that were less impressing...
