I have found that generally, within the same brand of cat food that is both grain inclusive and grain free, the grain free is usually higher in calcium and phosphorus. As always, you are the best. Happy Manic Monday!
I’m going to try and set a hard date in a few weeks when my kids are back in school and my schedule is more predictable. I’ll announce it plenty in advance on the community page
Good video. I have a question: how many diets in a specific brand would you pick before deciding to change the brand altogether if the individual diets didn't work for your pet?
I really appreciate all of your videos! After a week of watching hours upon hours of them, plus scouring tons of different puppy foods in preparation for picking up our three standard poodle puppies next week, I'm taking them off from the Kirkland Nature's Domain Puppy food (chicken & peas with other pulse)... ofI have requested from the dry matter analyses on my two narrowed choices of Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Puppy.. I was thinking lamb & brown rice formula: protein 24/fat 12.5/Cal 1.2/ph 1.0 , 3545 (365)kCal. Or Optimeal Turkey & Oatmeal (protein 27/fat 16/cal 1.2/ph 1.0/ vit E 405 IU, 3665 (404)kCal. It's about the best I can find with all of the information I've gleaned from you. I really appreciate everything you do!
Hi, I am looking for insight on what brand to feed my dogs. I have a 12 year old male yorkie poodle mix who weighs 12lbs and has really bad arthritis. I also have a 80lb Siberian husky male who is 1 1/2 years old and is very active does about an hour to hour and a half of exercise daily. Thank you so much!
Is grain free a bad thing if on ancestral grains the chicken flavor my Doberman has soft stools but on pumpkin with chicken, great stools hmmm I only switched to this brand via an owner with a 12 year old Doberman who eats this food
@@AnimalDocRea the referring owners dog was a rescue they had since it was one year old, the dog is 12 years old Yes I am aware of the breeds predispositions, but there’s no proof grain free is the outright cause of dcm so I cringe when you immediately shut down grain free options
@Angelsfan0521 there is no benefit to grain free providing any benefit and loads of research suggesting it might. As a veterinarian we abide by “do no harm” especially as a general rule. I might have a different discussion in the light of a personal relationship with a patient given particular circumstances, but likely not in this case. Especially since my local board certified cardiologist actively discourage grain free, and their opinion would be superior to mine in this topic.
@@AnimalDocRea what might be a good alternative for a Doberman? The ancestral grains do not yield solid stools. The night and day difference in stools leads me to believe she is unable to process the grains in N&D ancestral grains.
Have you heard of a book, "Applied Veterinary Clinical Nutrition," edited by, Andrea J. Fascetti VMD, PhD, DACVIM, DACVN, and Sean J. Delaney DVM, MS, DACVN. Thank you. Happy Caturday!
I’ve not, but looks like a good one to read after I finish re-reading and making notes in my SACN. I do love reading textbooks and to this day my favorite is Campbells biology, 5th edition.i usually read a new text every year. Last year was veterinary endoscopy by Tams after having the honor of sitting an in person lecture
