There are approximately one trillion versions of Tetris out there. Today I look at like ten of them. I couldn't get around to all one trillion, so let me know what your favorites are! www.tadiguess.com/
It's always fun watching people outside of the Tetris community talk about Tetris, it's always so pure of heart. It's fun to step away from the meta and listen to people just talk about a game they enjoy. For sure it's fun to watch people play at 200+ lines sent per minute, or people talking about how to improve your finesse, or what is the best opener. But there are a lot of players who just play for fun. I think this video is a great look at the average player and why they would enjoy different versions of Tetris. PS: you should give Tetrio a stab, lot of fun community made game, and it's free.
I'd say the TGM series is by far the best and yet the hardest. I've been experimenting with different rotation systems and it seems like TGM differs from the usual Nintendo Tetris as it uses the ARS rotation system. One other thing that makes it hard is the gravity and lock delays it provides. I've been trying to get into the Master grades at least, but only got about S5 in all of them. If you're looking to break your eyes, TGM is the way to go
Finally someone mentions The Next Tetris! So much fond memories playing this with my family. Mom and Dad trash talking each other will always be a happy thought lol. I always thought the different colored disconnecting blocks was genius.
The New Tetris for the N64 was my first game and it's still my favorite, Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 & 2 generally got me into Puyo roughly last year so that's something
For me I'd say Tetris Effect is the best version out right now. There is something about the music, colors and vibes of that game that almost feel meditative when playing it. The PuyoPuyo Tetris games are great when I want to mix it up with different game modes or switch to play PuyoPuyo for a bit.
i dont play much tetris, but one version i have some nostalgia for was Tetris DS. Featured some nintendo characters and worlds with the music too haha also tetris 99 was a blast when i used to play it
My ratings: Best single player Tetris: NES and/or Tetris Effect, only tied because Tetris Effect's single player Journey Mode is so drastically different from normal infinite Tetris and NES Tetris is too iconic to ignore Best mainly for multiplayer: Puyo Puyo Tetris, tons of modes, being able to play Puyo Puyo alongside Tetris is really neat, really solid game and it goes on sale often Most unique Tetris: Tetris 99, what's more unique than a freaking Tetris battle royale?! Best unofficial: Jstris tied with Tetrio, Jstris is just basic Tetris with no speed cap so you can go as fast as you want and it has solid multiplayer, Tetrio is better in terms of single player and production quality but isn't quite up to par with Jstris in terms of core gameplay, but both are still solid. My preferred out of the two is Tetrio, but I recommend Jstris as well My personal favorite: Tetris Effect. The visuals, the music, the experience of Journey Mode is something every person should experience, the Effect modes are great ways to play normal Tetris in the Tetris Effect style, the multiplayer is truly fantastic and while not as good for just standard 1v1 Tetris it's still incredible, oh man I just love everything about Tetris Effect.
A really cool one is Apotris, it's a homebrew game for the GBA, so you can basically run it everywhere, but it is also good looking and very customizable. But the best thing about it is the super snappy controls. This is tetris at its purest.
My man, you have made a great video, and I personally super agree with you on The Next Tetris being the best. It also has the old school russian chiptune music in it too which just makes me so happy. If there could be another version of it made that used the same "my blocks are made up of multiple colours that don't stick together" style of play, it'd be my pick. Now, don't mind me, I need to go take a look at Tetris 99, I've always felt my games were missing an additional 98 players.
I'm sure a majority of us Tetris fans have used the word as a verb, especially when reorganizing is involved. Why not make that a theme for just one game? You're moving to college, and now you have to put things in the car. Don't forget your bike (large oblong shape) You're visiting for the holidays and you need to make room in the fridge for the turkey (large oblong shape) Your friend said you can get paid extra if you help him load up luggage for a bunch of wealthy private jets. You and your roommate are moving a new couch (large oblong shape) into your apartment. Also avoid passing by neighbors and pets. If your block hits them, the block gets destroyed and you lose points.
DIdn't really played much tetrises, but my favourite is "Tetris the grandmaster 3: terror-instinct". The game provides very hard challenge so i stuck here for couple of years
My favorite Tetris is Axis for 3DS. Bored of plain old Tetris? Just try another gimmicky mode to spice things up a bit. Bombs? You want it? It's yours, my friend.
Game Boy Tetris is probably the most iconic one since it's the one that sold 35 million copies. Unlike the 2 Tetris games on the NES, the Game Boy Tetris is the one that used Korobeiniki in it's soundtrack which has been associated with Tetris ever since. When people think of Tetris, they think of Korobeiniki which was introduced in the Game Boy version, which is why that one is the most iconic.
Theres one fun tetris game on the super nintendo console that you can send magic powers on the enemy side if you destroy a specific block that comes whit the pices that falls down
Tengen Tetris (the one Nintendo sued over) has CO-OP! That my friend, is PEAK Tetris. There is nothing better than yelling out commands to your friend to set up a Tetris. (While your wives giggle at the innuendo "yeah I'll hold here and you can slide in there, okay wait wait, okay now to the left! Yeah right there! Hold up, I'm going in...")
my fav tetris is probably jstris, its free, tracks your progress and makes graphs of all your times!! it’s very fun to look at improvement :) and the online is good fun too
Man can I relate to 4:21 My 3DS has is kinda busted around the right corner and now every time I open it I can hear some plastic snapping and I'm too afraid to open it.
My favorite take on the tetris genre not including normal tetris is Tricky Towers. It's a fun party game with items and actual gravity. You want to make your tetris stack as big as possible without it falling over
Also please play tritris. It’s basically tetris but the pieces are made of triangles and i like it better than any version that has squares. It’s incredible
My favourites is gotta be in between Tetris Effect: Connected or Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. I can't pick either of them they're both really really good and fun :)
As an avid Tetris enjoyer, you missed several unique ones like Tetris axis,Tetris party the late Tetris friends, Tetris world... Well you get the idea For me, Tetris ultimate is one of the best (only 3DS version though) because the sprint mode, which is my favorite mode ever, is the fastest it ever was Puyo puyo tetris is also an amazing experience overall
6:45 does the physical version comes with the themes, because I bought the DLC, but it still makes me unlock them. And how long does it take before the event themes come to the store?
You have to earn tickets from daily missions and spend those on themes. I don’t think they’ve added any to the shop in a LONG time though. You can unlock them the weekend they are available but I haven’t seen any I missed in the past year show up in the store.
Ashamed of what? Owning the physical edition of a Tetris game (Tetris 99 in this case) and not following the trend of having games digitally? Why should you be? Good on you I say. Wish more people were like that. To me I couldn't give a damn about convenience.
Tetris Party Deluxe on Wii (and DS) has some very original modes - worth a look. Tetris Battle Gaiden on SNES is a really nice variant too. And check out Tetris 64 on the N64 - JP only - there's a bio mode that uses a heart monitor and matches the speed to your pulse.......
I enjoy Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 a lot, definitely worth a look, and it goes on sale often. Tetris Diamond is a singleplayer Tetris game with diamond Tetriminos that increase score when making a line with them. It's on Switch, but in the Japanese eShop only. Think it was 500 Yen, ain't too bad. Tetris for the Phillips CD-i has an amazing soundtrack, for a real relaxing experience. I hear it's not all that great, tho, but that soundtrack? Goddamn.
i really miss all the ps1 tetris :( i wish they remake those. especially tetris plus. Would be interesting if we have online mode with that level creator now
i think it's funny that you didn't show Tetris the Grand Master or anything but Tetris with Cardcaptor Sakura made the cut (sakura tetris is a good game so it's okay)
6:17 and win* immediatly you see, the more people targets you, the more garbage you will send to your opponents, so the more people targets you, the better
@@TadIGuessno, i'm serious, if you clear a single or a double you will send a lot of garbage to all the people you are targetting, consider using the strat to get as many players to target you :)
I beg to differ. Fish are NOT the essential component of a good video game. Why? Because some people actually HATE fish! Also, most people prefer dry land themes to underwater themes. So there's nothing special about Tetris Splash. It's just fish. What's worse, you cannot play Tetris Splash on a Nintendo console! Which is why Tetris Splash doesn't deserve to surpass any other Tetris games.
@@PEARLSTOTHEPLAYERS Nope, my opinion is retained. No fish. Go for dry land instead, or take to the skies, because Tetris Splash is _for the birds,_ if you know what I mean.
@@TadIGuess Sorry to disappoint you, but the fish don't make the rules either. Tetris Splash isn't available for any Nintendo consoles, so it can't be the best Tetris game. Ever.
i like tetris ds and pokemini tetris personally ppt2 tetris and nes tetris neat also and gameboy tetris i used to play on my gba sp all the time (its also why i got fired from an unofficial internship cause i did it in my freetime and they thought i didnt take things seriously)
@@TadIGuess the consoles are ~$50 and the game is about the same, plus most people are kind enough to replace that batteries. the downside is the size of the buttons and everything but its really fun, there is also emulators for pokemini you can play it in
Tetris Diamond, tetris advance, tetris splash and tetris ds and that one super vision clone called blocks. I hear a lot of people recommend tetris effect and I do have 19 hours on it, but I think it's a POS.
Puyo Puyo Tetris sucks it ruined my childhood I hate how they use the japanese version of "Squashy Splats" instead of the one in the west this makes me sad.
This video is not at all what I expected. I expected a deep dive into the numerous changes in mechanics that the core Tetris series has tinkered with over the years. Instead, it's just a brief, superficial look at just a few of the variants. The actual premise of the video is entertaining enough on its own, but I do find it a little insulting to hear the opinion that most Tetris games are the same. I spend so much time belonging to different Tetris communities, all with different nuances and meta, that this overly simplified take on the franchise almost feels like a personal attack. I don't think that was the intention, though.
Hey thanks for the feedback! I'll try my best to address the points you made. - This video is meant to be from the perspective of your average, casual Tetris player, not someone who plays the games seriously or is a member of the "Tetris community". While I'm sure there is a lot as far as "different nuances and meta" goes, I simply play Tetris casually to watch funny shapes fall. - I know the games aren't all exactly the same, and I did my best to talk about the unique elements of each one that I talked about! My videos are never meant to be taken very seriously and are just meant as dumb, silly watches. I'm sorry if the jokes felt like an attack on the "Tetris community"! - A deep dive into Tetris mechanics would be pretty neat, but for my videos I just like to talk about things I enjoy/have a lot of nostalgia for, so I just stuck to talking a little bit about the Tetris games I had played throughout the years because that was more interesting to me. - I'm curious what about the title and thumbnail featuring Goofy and a snapped in half 3DS made you think that the video would be a deep analysis of the series mechanics. (And I don't mean that in a rude way! I don't mean to mislead anyone with titles/thumbnails and thought I made it pretty clear it would be a silly video, I'm just curious how you came to that idea for next time!
@@TadIGuess I do want to make it clear, I did like the video. Once I got into it, I understood that this was a casual look. I think what happened is that I brought my own expectations. I watch a lot of Tetris content, so I was expecting something more along those lines.
