For shreds - typically only used for my mac n cheese, I grab VioLife, Miyokos or Follow Your Heart. However I love Miyoko's' cream cheese and mozzarella wheel. Conscious Cultures Creamery stole my heart last month. Their cheese tastes like real cheese. Mind blown. Daiya's boxed mac n cheese bangs too!
It's so hard cause even with thorough reviews like this taste is subjective. Everybody has different opinions and buying all these to compare is like a weeks pay😃

After watching this I went on a vegan cheese shopping spree! My favorites were Chao slices( good on sandwiches and with crackers), Violife Mozarella Shreds (great for veggie quesadillas) and So Delicious Cheddar shreds (great for grilled cheese). I love these videos! Thank you so much!
If you cover pan when using Miyoko’s cheeses it really does melt a lot better. I prefer the pepper jack, but Miyoko herself doesn’t like the cheddar and they are currently finishing reformulating.
I’d love to see yall rate with numbers of zero through 10, not just comparing one cheeze to another. For example, all of them could be great cheeses rated high, but one could be 8.5; another 9.0; another 9.5; and another 10.0. Thanks for your consideration!

vio life is my favorite, although i really want to try miyokos! just a little friendly criticism, (not at all in a judgy or spiteful way) i think chill lofi music would work best in your videos, as it would compliment your channel’s tone :)
For the Miyoko’s, it ended up working really well when I blended it in my vitamix with plant milk, nutritional yeast, and a few other things to make almost a velveeta cheese sauce for a veganized broccoli casserole for thanksgiving! I don’t like it too much on its own. It was on super sale at Whole Foods around thanksgiving so that’s why I used that 😊
Started my dairy free diet and your channel is a pot gold for me right now. Thanks for trying everything so we don’t have to. These products are getting so expensive nowadays 🙌
Miyoko makes the best vegan cheese they have a mozzarella that’s not shredded that blows all them out the water. Daiya and follow your heart are disgusting and violife naw the taste is weird smmh but everyone has different taste buds to each it’s own lol I love the cheddar miyoko by the way even tho I’ve grown to just live without cheese all together at times
In general I've found the best shredded vegan cheese is the stuff we shred ourselves from blocks of vegan cheese we like. Whatever they use to separate the shreds seems to impact the flavor and ability to melt well but I'll have to try leaving the shreds out on the counter for a little first because that's a lot easier
I did like the miyoko's farmhouse cheddar block, haven't tried the shreds. I shredded the block and used it in zucchini/potato enchiladas and it was awesome!
I can just watch you guys for hours and hours on end - you are definitley my favorite vegan channel :) Violife is always my go to cheese too. Also: a little weird side note, but I just have to compliment Andrew's waves - they are looking so beautiful these days!
The follow your heart mozzarella is nasty in my opinion, but their regular provolone, smoked provolone, and american are phenomenal! Violife is my favorite for slices and easiest to find for me in my area
Personally I love the Trader Joe’s “Dairy free mozzarella style shreds” bonus is that it is $3.99, I don’t eat the cheese raw typically but when I was cooking with it I kept eating little pinches of it and it tastes pretty good uncooked.
Great comparisons! I love the violife and Daiya Cutting Board mozzarella shreds. I found that if I spray them with a non propellant cooking oil spray they melt much better on pizza. I will try the room temperature thing . I Love the Violife Cheddar shreds and slices too. I am not a fan of the taste of the Miyokos cheeses. I know their mozzarella is loved by many but it's not for me.

We tried the Daiya Cutting Board mozzarella in your artichoke spinach dip on Christmas Eve and it was SUPER OILY! I would not recommend using it for baking!
Violife Epic Mature cheddar and Feta are the only two vegan cheeses I've tried that aren't gross. Still need to try Chao. Honestly, I am trying to be healthier anyway, so I'd rather not eat something calorific that tastes like plastic.
Trader Joe’s has almond cheese shreds and I have been buying it for over a year and I randomly flipped to the back and it is not vegan!!! But they keep it right next to the vegan cheese. I was so mad
I hate the chao slices. I tried them for the first time this week. They do not melt either, and they do not taste anything like cheese. Not even similar. Like, I know it's not real cheese, but it's nowhere near even similar, which makes it pointless & useless! Chao sucks, sorry lol! The moment I began this video and saw chao as your first test, I was like NOPE! #Shit without you even tasting it yet. lmao Thanks for testing all these. I want to try the Violife cheese now, after seeing this!
I highly recommend trying the Miyoko’s smoked mozzarella! It’s soooo good. Comes in as a wheel style and you can shred it (shreds easiest after being in the freezer 30 mins). It’s expensive though 😭
Pretty much agree! I was really disappointed with the new miyokos, I love their cheese spreads. My fav shredded cheese is also violife, the colby jack flavor is great and melts Sooo well
The peperjack is better overall. I have no idea why the cheddar tastes so odd to me. I was super excited and strongly disliked the slices and shreds for cheddar. The peperjack also melts easier which is weird because I would also think it's the same formula base.
I am definitely NOT trying to make more work for you 😬🤭 But…can I make a suggestion? Would you write down your picks as a checklist or number of what is bad to good? i.e. Brand Taste texture Cost melts smell Violife. 7 8 3 6 5 FYH …….. It will give us all the senses of the brands, cause eating is definitely an all encompassing experience but we can get a better feel of what to buy based on the categories that may be different between you and us as the watcher/consumer. Thanks for doing the work for us by reviewing!! It has been good to see what’s new.
I wish there were versions of these with less unhealthy things in them. violife for example has loads of coconut oil, which is what they give mice in experiments when they need to quickly give them heart disease. I know not everything can be perfectly healthy and a little now and then is fine. But as a daily staple it doesn’t make me feel super confident. Especially with my kids.
Violife has become a go to brand for me!! Have you guys tried the Trader Joe's mozzarella? I can't remember if it was in one of your taste test videos. That's my go to lately for pizza. My husband likes it so I consider that a win. I was scared of the Aldi brand but I guess I should try it now!
Great video! Miyoko makes THE BEST vegan pourable pizza mozzarella, though! Her cultured butter recipe in her pantry cookbook is WAY better than her butter at the store…try them!
@@MakeItDairyFree it is used in a different way than most cheeses, so read the instructions exactly (unlike what I would normally do-lol) I have used it on pizza and also on top of pasta or lasagne, browned at the end of cooking under the broiler. Her cultured “butter” recipe is seriously the best I have ever tried. Tastes exactly like dairy butter!

Violife is easy to buy in UK and I like it.It's our go to brand. Daiya has made its way over here but I don't think I'm keen on it and its so much more expensive than violife.
I did not know they reformulated the ALDI cheese. I’ll have to try it again because it is so cheap. I remember I had a bag in my fridge for months and was convinced it did not expire.
The Daiya 2.0 The Cutting Board Collection totally screwed me up! I ordered it from Pizza Pizza: Canada, and I 100% thought it was real cheese when they changed recipe. It burns like real cheese, had some chew, stretch / melt, scent. etc. Very convincing on pizza! :3~ The old was gooey, and very sticky.
I’ve only tried Miykoso’s pepper jack so far and their butter but I love them both! Newbie to the vegan world (two weeks in 🥳💜🥦) and I tried the pepper jack in quesadillas (I instinctively covered the pan tho from back in my grilled cheese days) so it melted really great for me! I also tried it in a chickenless egg :veggie scramble and it was delicious! I’ve only tried this brand so far but cheese is basically my favorite food (besides cake 😋) and I felt super satisfied! Have you ever tried the So Good Vegan cheese that they sell at Walmart? It taste so realistic. They only have shreds cheddar & mozzarella & slices at my local Wal-mart. Maybe you could find other types. Cause I can never find Parmesan, cream cheese, sour cream in any brand in my area. Also do you have any receipts for cream cheese or sour cream? Thank you for your content. I'm extremely new to all this so I'm still adjusting & trying to find almost anything vegan.
Violife mozzarella is my fave too. I used to HATE the Earth Grown straight out of the bag and thought that it was passable melted, but based on your review, I just went to my fridge and tasted some from my new bag unmelted and it's not terrible, so Earth Grown definitely fixed something over the past year. We always keep one bag of Violife in the house for when we're feeling fancy and a couple of bags of Earth Grown for our everyday mozzarella needs.

The best one I have tried is Forager Queso Fresco --It really does taste like cheese and I have tried 2 or 3 from Violife and I thought those were all gross. Chao mac and cheese tasted like coconut oil to me. I love the Myoko's wheels esp. smoked mozz. I hardly eat vegan cheese anyway but every once in a while I have a little bit on nacho chips or taco. So like RinVibes said,, it gets so expensive with these that I don't wanna try anymore so I am really pleased with Forager for shredded cheese.
This only really applies for the northeast but Hannaford has Nature's Promise Aged CashewCheese mozzarella style shreds and I love it (their cheddar is kinda gross though) and it's $3.99! Besides that I really like Good Planet and follow your heart is right behind them. Still need to try the cutting board Daiya but I tried their american slices today for grilled cheese and liked it a lot. I tried Chao slices last year for grilled cheese when I was a new vegan and felt I could taste the coconut and it was off-putting.
ok, I guess I did have someting else to say in regards to Miyoko's...they don't have the shredded cheese in my store for me to try, in which case I will take your word for it, but I just wanted to agree that yessssssss their butter is AMAZING!! The downside is it is expensive but I LOVE their butter. Also, they have a creamery liquid pizza mozzeralla. I love pizza, but I haven't been eating any lately to pick up a bottle to try.... Just wondering if you tried it and what are your thoughts?
I like chao....and not as a vegan alternative - I actually like the taste and that's even when I was a vegetarian. The texture isn't quite like regular cheese, but I dont mind that. It works in a sadwhich just fine, but I can also eat it as is. It doesn't have a weird, overpowering, fake cheese taste. My niece isn't vegan, nor is my sister, but sometimes it's necessary for me to hide my cheese because they will eat it ALL - straight out of the package. (If they did decide to become vegans, at least they won't have to worry about finding a cheese they like.) I didn't know there was a shredded version...and your video is 2 years old. I guess my store doesn't carry it because I have never seen it, nor does it come up on their store website (or maybe they offer it at other locations - I shop at HEB as its the closest store near me). I also like Violife but it is new-ish in my store (first introduced as cream cheese only, but now they offer the shredded cheese and butter...saldy, still no parm...in any vegan brands 😢). BTW, the strawberry cream cheese is dangerous. My niece and I would eat that by the spoonful - I litterally had to make myself stop buying it as it never made it as a spread. However, their cheese is always selling out, so when its avaliable, you have to buy several quickly. Last one I will mention...Daiya... I hated that cheese when it first came out (sorry). Because of another video of yours that I watched, I picked up a bag of their chedder and mozzarella today (cuttingboard). I still haven't tasted it yet, but I will tomorrow. If I am being honest, I'm kind of afraid. ...But I'm guessing we have similar tastebuds, being that y'all didn't like it either...so fingers crossed.
I can’t agree with this at all. Lol. Flavor alone, miyokos is the best hands down. The only one that has any flavor. Lol. I think chao tastes like straight butter. Not like cheese. I’ve always thought daiya products are gross. Then again I’ve never really tried the mozzarella ones. I prefer a cheddar flavor for my salads and tofu scramble/wraps. Idk if I missed it, but were these put in a microwave or cooked on the stove? I don’t think I’ve tried putting the miyokos shred in the microwave, but I have done the circular block ones and microwaving it makes it taste horrible! It basically burns it and turns crumbly. So maybe it’s just not the kind of cheese you cook...
Respectfully, you guys should divulge more in to descriptive taste and difference in taste between each brand of cheese, I’m mean granted, it is a “Taste test video”, Otherwise it’s a decent video . Quality was good and chemistry is good as well
I wish they’d make nutritious vegan cheese full of protein. Enzymatic reductions of rice and pea into their separate macronutrients would be mixed together with vegan cheese to add protein…
I do not like the Myokos either - terrible taste. Not had the Aldi. But LOVE Good Planet Violife, Chao but also if you haven't tried PARMELA it's the bomb! It's pricey so I get when on sale and freeze! Find it. It's amazing stuff!
I honestly think we might share the same taste buds because I agree with the order with you two picked a hundred percent . At 1 point I had thought. I'd lost it because I tried daiya while back and I thought it had a horrible texture as well as flavor as well as even on a pizza kind of stuck in my mouth . Then someone bought it and I kind of accidentally tried it again and liked it and thought it couldn't be the same brand when they told me and had no idea they improved it and thought I had just lost my mind or lost my sense of taste l o l .Glad that you guys let me know that I didn't and the order you picked is really good😋😋💜
Can you please say where you get the cheese ..I only shop at sprouts .. the don't have very many. And I have frys or safeway...frys has nothing. Safeway has daiya
I know this video is over a year old but, I just found Moocho in my supermarket and it is my new favorite. Although I am not sure if it's available in your area yet.
I've only tried 2 vegan cheeses... daiya was good compared to the other I tried it tasted absolutely awful.. I don't remember what the name of it was. Was sold at Safeway... they only have 2 there so. I don't even feel like I need cheese anymore but I did make a potato cheese... it turned out ok...I wanted more of the cheese flavor so I added more nutritional yeast and then it got worse lol
I love the new Miyokos. I actually used it along with Follow Your Heart Parm in your Mac n cheese recipe.......and it was delicious!! Your recipe is fantastic. Also, if I make a grilled cheese with it, I do have to cook it slow and low with a lid to keep the heat in, just so it melts
I don't care for Miyoko's cheese, shredded or cream. It might be good for those who want a "cheese" that isn't supposed to be a substitute for "real" stuff... but it is nothing even close to being a replacement, the taste is too off.
Just a bunch of process ingredients. Just eat the real cheese. There is no way this is healthier than what nature created for us. Make it make sense. 🤦🏻♀️
So, watched this and then went and had dinner. We were making pizzadillas (it's a Chef John thing from Food Wishes). Anyway, I had the new Daiya cutting board cheese in the fridge! So I got to try it out. Well, I feel it is like the original. For me, it is the "creaminess"/oiliness of it that isn't appealing. Does anyone else have this problem?? I'll have to keep trying more brands. Thanks for all your work! 😊
