Growing up, I always wanted to be a law enforcement officer but.. in the end, getting my red seal for the Heavy-duty Mechanic certification and joined the Canadian Forces. So far it was a good decision. 👏
As a volunteer FF in Canada, we were given Peace Officer powers, but only when on a scene, or official event. Mainly so we could control our scene when RCMP were busy. I may be wrong/have forgotten, but I think that's how it worked... A long time now!!!
They have the same powers of arrest and obligations of arrest that any police officer has. If a Peace officer runs you and you come back with warrants, you're probably getting arrested and they dont need any more permission than a police officer does. If you obstruct, they can arrest. There powers of arrest in Alberta come from POPA. You can read about arrests in that act.
How is it that a peace officer can do radar and have a CN Constable pull the vehicle over? For example Hinton Alberta. Especially when it is on the highway not within 12 feet of the tracks.
Highschool graduate here, i know that peace officers and police officer only require class 5 driver's licsene and highschool diploma in which i have already. Should I get a B.A(Business adminstrion) degree first before applying to become and officer? What do you recommend?
Everything helps. Getting into a class for most departments requires you to compete against 600-2000 other applicants for a handful of spots. The more competitive you are, the higher chances you have. Post secondary isnt listed as a requirement for most agencies, but will be required if you want to be a competitive applicant.
@@kage_tactical Technically yes. The same is true for most Canadian law enforcement agencies including most police departments. BUT, you arent going to get a callback without post secondary. The requirements are low so that they can cast a large net, and then they take the best 0.5% of the applicants because its common to see 2000-3000 applications for a posting.
Great question! Specific requirements to become a Peace Officer in Alberta can vary depending on municipality, but in general you must: - be at least 18 years old - have no criminal record or outstanding criminal charges - have successful completion of required training - successfully pass the physical abilities test - have a 2-year diploma OR equivalent education and experience - if employed by the Alberta government OR minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent - for community peace officer positions For more info, check out: www.alberta.ca/peace-officers-overview.aspx
Safety officers come in a variety of roles. Codes safety is typically a municipal role and can lead to jobs like land use inspector, business licensing inspector etc. Then there is workplace safety like OHS, which is typically a provincial certification.
@@safe_communities how do you become a peace officer? Every time I search everything goes straight to police officer. Does prior service military help with anything?
