What's up With: Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 Part 2! 

The fact that this was going to be a different game makes Elise's inclusion make some sense. I always felt she was out of place for a sonic game.

When you hear about what was originally planned for Sonic '06, you start itching for a remake with the amount of stuff they cut. This game was not meant to be bad.

Sonic 06 makes Rise of Lyric look like Sonic 06.

Cardboard Mephiles' plan isn't that bad considering that Mephiles is considered one of the game's few redeeming qualities.

Another well presented point in this video: Dont get on the bandwagon, try things out for yourself instead of relying on other people's opinions. Also, someone should do a video where Shadow is surrounded by Mephiles' clones performing De Staat's "Witch Doctor".

On your point on level design: Sonic Adventure often had at least three characters explore each stage with vastly different playstyles, and yet their level design was just fine.

Bad? Sure. The worst game in history? Not by far.

Whenever I reflect on the infamous *Sonic '06,* I think to myself: "What a waste, such a shame." Because there were elements of its story & gameplay concepts in spite of their overwhelming problems that I liked and thought had potential: *Sonic & company saving a kingdom, connected campaigns, solving the mystery behind a new character's apocalyptic future allegedly somehow caused by Sonic, the titular hero actually KILLED by a more mature villain and having to be revived with help from his friends, three super-hedgehogs teaming up against a god, etc.* On paper, it sounded EPIC! With less convoluted, more balanced writing + a delay (anniversary date be damned) to properly finish development, these ideas could've formed something compelling! Tragically, the end-result was a painfully unfocused, unpolished mess. The plot tried to combine too many things (particularly the time-travel), the Elise-romance created needless controversy in what otherwise may have been a sweet friendship between Sonic & a human, and the ending was an anti-climactic insult. This over-abundance similarly plagued the gameplay (number of characters, play/level-styles, repetitive Elise kidnappings, tug of war between Eggman and Mephiles as antagonists that undermined both's development, glitches, etc). The project overall should serve as a prime example of everything NOT to do in a game (especially an intended reboot), from rushing development to overextending creative & technical capabilities, and hyping up unrealistic expectations. *On the only bright side imo, Sonic '06 gave us one of the series' arguably best soundtracks!* 🎵 *#InThisWorld* 🎵👍

This game is honestly one of my favorites. I love that there's three different story parts and that the gameplay variates, depending on which character you play as.

I first got this game in 2009, when I got my PS3 for Christmas. I managed to complete Silver's entire story, but was stuck at the Acropolis Snow level for quite some time. Fast forward to 2011 when I finally mustered up the ability to get past this level, and actually finish the entire game. I had been doing this for a few games in my life - being unable to beat it at one age, coming back later and trying again before actually doing it. Sonic 06 was one part of that maturing journey and I appreciate it for that. I love Sonic 06 because of all the glitchyness, the ridiculous story that it's practically good, and all the exploits. I love to jump around with the purple gem infinitely, break stages and whatnot. I love to watch the cutscenes movie. I love to joke about the Elise kiss or Shadow kicking Silver in the head. Everything about it is nostalgic and I think if more people sat down to have a laugh about it with friends, maybe over a few drinks, they could look back on it with a better light. Ish.

I played Sonic 06 before I knew about the internet or the hate of the game and I loved it.

This game came out the year after I was born.

The interdimensional traveler: Hey, whats your favorite videogame? Random boy from another dimension: Sonic 07, it has no glitches, gameplay is perfect, level design is just the best, and story makes complete sense. They took some time to do it, but i think the rush for finishing the game would have killed it. Do you imagine a Sonic 07, well 06 if it came earlier, whith weird story, tons of glitches odd gameplay and not great level design, due to rushing the development or spliting the development team. That would be weird!

What I really want Sonic Team to do is go back and remake Sonic 06 the way it was gonna be if they had a full team and didn't have a deadline.

Sonic 06 was actually my first Sonic game I played. So, I actually like it and have somewhat good memories with it.

i actually bought the game today for my Xbox 360 at gamestop, and it took me 17 years to actually buy the game, bring it home, and pop it into my Xbox and i was surprised that the game didn't cause my 360 to burst up into flames...

i think that you were right when you said about the fans being confused and angry at sega for making such an awful game. and as you said that made the hate go towards the game itself. but does this make me like or hate the game any more/less than i already do? no of course not but i am willing to let the past go and forget this game. that was something i have been trying to do (untill i watched this, no offense peter). heres to hopes that the next aneversary game will be another sa2 or generations! ( no i dont mean sa3 or generations 2, i meant games just as good as or even better than those).

i never really hated 06 and when my brother played it i would just laugh at the glitches and the ridiculously long loading screens. the cgi is good, the ingame models kind of scare me though and elise was really annoying. the glitches werent even that bad either though.

The problem with the general control isn't that it is super sensitive, it's that Sonic has no weight. Sonic being sensitive in Sonic Adventure wasn't a problem because Sonic would slow down because the game understood physics and weight. Sonic 06's control is like the Sonic 4 version of the Adventure control.

Is it me or does this remind me of how lbp3 was rushed and finished as a glitchy mess but later fixed so now the game's community is healing

Since sonic 06 was my 2nd game i ever played u have no choice but to love it. You would think that if this was someone's first time playing a sonic game they would hate it but people don't see what i saw in 06 i had no game play issues or anything because all that matters is that you had fun playing the game or you just want too support sega and not hate them because it makes them worried that thye cant make a good sonic game

When I first played Sonic 06, it was y first Sonic game and among my first ever video games, and it was so hard I didn't make it past the whale level but thought it was because the game was mature and complex in a way that I wasn't to par with yet. I mean everyone loved sonic so how could it be bad. After learning that it's actually a bad game I got on the bandwagon, maybe to feel like I wasn't as bad, but maybe also because it was nice being among a community that understood the same frustration I felt with a game I owned that people actually knew or cared about. I can't talk to anyone about Kameo Elements of power or Lego Star Wars 2. And I can still play it with my brother and gripe about it yet still enjoy it, and my favorite Game Grumps play through was for this game, and though we all know it's bad we had fun and even enjoyed the game in a way you like bad films, except it's not the story but the entire journey we go on that we hate but enjoy.

the weird thing is, i actually played this game back in 2012, i had fun with the shadow levels. Yes. I Had Fun. though the controls where.....there..and it was frustrating. but still enjoyable.

What make me love this game, even that i didn't play it yet because i'm still new to Sonic Games and don't have an X-BOX is because it has ultiple playable character and i liked Silver in it.

i liked playing sonic 06 was my first ps3 game. :3 i really liked the music. the biggest issue i had was with the hedgehog battles "aka vs silver"

I'll be honest, I like sonic 06. It's not anywhere near perfect, but it's fun.

I got Sonic '06 on the 360 a few months after it released, and I definitely felt a lot of the hard arguments about the game being bad, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the game and taking it as a challenge. That's the biggest thing about this game: It isn't unplayable. It's definitely possible to beat and can be done so by anyone that chooses to go that far.

I honestly think that this was a good game, not great but it wasn't really bad either. You just need a little patience.

i recently got sonic next gen off e-bay, and have been playing through with a friend, and it is a really fun time. and i noticed through my plathrough that i goth the controlls faster than i did Boost or Adventure gameplay, another reason is sometimes the level design dosnt match the controlls..

I really need a charger for my X-Box 360 controller. Don't ask what I plan to play on my 360. I just plan to play a game on it. That's all.

See, here's the thing. I want to like this game much more than I do. I want to play it for hours and hours on end like I did with Sonic Heroes and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on GameCube when I was a kid. But considering Sonic's speed sections are so unplayble, it just can't be done. I've never thought of truly breaking a disk until I played as Sonic. I like what they did with Silver, and Shadow's levels are really fun too (if you can even unlock him, which I must admit is really fucking difficult because of the levels you have to beat AS SONIC). But I do get your points, and I agree. This is what I've been saying for a while now. I personally have wanted a remake with a full team and a proper amount of time to complete the game -- or at least a remaster with better controls and all the glitches fixed (as many that can be fixed anyway). As it stands, it's not my favourite Sonic game. I actually like Shadow the Hedgehog much better. I'm not even being sarcastic or ironic, as I've truly enjoyed that game and put in hundreds of hours playing it. I don't hate Sonic 06, but it just wasn't executed as well as it could have been. It's a shitstorm of a game, but it doesn't deserve the hate it gets. I guess the best thing to say is I have a lot of conflicting feelings when it comes to Sonic 06. It's not a truly awful game like everyone says, but it surely isn't the reboot Sonic needed. Sonic Adventure had more polish than Sonic 06 because they actually took the time to make a good game, and they were able to work on it much easily with a full team. This is even being said with the dreaded missions that involve Big and his storyline. I don't know. I have a lot to say, and I really just don't know how to say it perfectly. I'll close with the advice that people at least play it before they hate on it. It really does have its own unique take on the series, especially in Silver's missions.

I believe sonic06 is ok. Even tho there is a bunch of glitches, the game is still fun to play and the glitches also can be very fun to mess with.

It's funny how everyone hates this game but me and my big brother used to play it aloooooot ( on 2p mode because we couldn't do 1p mode ) and had soooo muuuuch FUN! Edit - I just got nostalgia about this game so I decided to see if I still have it and..... I DO! This is the best thing that happened to me lately!

I love this game. Played it rotatory with two wonderful friends. =) The only thing I hated was the speedlevels.

I wish they would make it backwards compatible on the xbox one. It's a game worth playing for real

Honestly I didn't play the game, I only watched a cutscene compilation on RU-vid. But I can tell one thing that i like about this game: MEPHILES. This villain is one of the best in the franchise, he is manipulative, unpredictable, he pulled every strings to accomplish his goal. That's an evil son of a b*tch ! Too bad the story just... gave me terrible headaches when I try to find a logic in all of this...

Honestly if it wasn't for the storyline or the fact it's a Sonic game, I don't think I would have finished it. I don't hate Sonic 06 but it would have been so much more enjoyable if it wasn't rushed.

I have not played the game, I've just watched others do it, but I thought the idea of having all characters share the levels and play slight variants on them based on their abilities was a pretty interesting idea. I guess it really is that bad eh?
