Everyone likes fried food, right? But, fried food looks different around the world. On this episode of Pan Pals, Mike Thomas and Rima Hammo will swap their favorite fried foods. From Southern fried catfish to Jordanian Kubbeh, these home chefs heat up their oil and are ready to try something new.

@PBS - Please bring back Pan Pals for another season! I found Season 1 tonight and I binged every minute of it. This is what we need right now. Remind us how we all are more common than separate. Remind us that every culture and family has meaning and is worth exploring. You folks really hit it out of the park with this series (especially if you keep it going). Beryl's semi-unintentional cameos are a hoot.

When I hear fried, I think of falafel, drizzled with tahini and with everything in a pita. I love seeing different cultures coming together over food. This series just makes me happy.

Great series! My absolute favorite fried food is fried green tomatoes. I'm from Texas and have cousins in Milwaukee and Melbourne, Australia. I had the chance to make fgt for them and the huge platter was totally devoured 😅

Love this series, and Beryl is the perfect choice to host it. I also love that every video letter ends with "Love" followed by the pan pals name. I kind of tear up every time that happens. So yeah, lots of love for this project.

I hope this show will return, it's so wholesome! My favourite fried food is oliebollen, also known as Dutch donuts. They're fried doughballs with raisins and lots of powdered sugar on top! Since they're mostly eaten during new years eve and carnivals, they always remind me of good times and bright lights 😊

Oh my goodness! This might be my favorite episode of this series. I love fried catfish, and I love kubbeh! They are both so delicious. I also have always enjoyed Meeting people from other cultures and learning about them through sharing food.

My favorite fried food dish is actually a "dominicanized" version of kubbeh! We call them quipes, and they come from Lebanese inmigrants that moved to the DR in the 19th century. In the DR, the bulgur wheat dough has ground beef mixed into it and the inside beef mince has raisins :)

Ah, that's interesting - "quipes" is most likely from the Lebanese name for this dish - kibbeh - plus the Spanish -s plural prefix, e.g., Leb. kibbeh > Sp. quipe ['ki.pe] + -s (pl.) = quipes.
