What separates a 2k from a 3k? 

Spirit breaker here! I learned a ton from this match and have definitely put it into more use in my games. Pos 3 was a newer role for me at the time and I hadn’t quite learned the meta as some of you pointed out. I had a great time and learned a lot! I definitely learned even more from the video and am excited to put it into practice. Hoping bsj saying I have a big future ahead of me is true lol

As a 2k player, I can HEAVILY relate to BSJs frustration here. I often find myself in these situations even as a support player feeling obligated to do everything and shove every lane because my team doesn't want to do anything and likes to wait for things to happen to them rather than be proactive. Obviously I'm not that great either but it's been something I've been trying to focus on and improve in my playing.

25:59 (21m03s in the match) here is were in an actual ranked 3k match Snap would have gotten 4 reports for not participating in the bad plays of his teammates.

When the cores dont clear waves and let them push into the towers while they farm ancients right next to it then spam X on you as support as half the creep wave dies to the tower. Or you tp to defend mid as a support when mid ganks and you just get pinged 20 times for daring to take solo farm an xp as a support.

The difference is definitely pushing. But it’s also that a 2k can’t play a few carries good enough to solo to 3k. And yes I am 2k, and yes I am not good enough with enough Carrie’s to carry myself to win games consistently. But I will say that almost every win/loss is due to a team getting a huge advantage and the throw it by not pushing at all when they likely can end by min 20-25. And most of the other games is a team almost throwing by not pushing. The lower mmr you go, the more and more people, especially the pos 1 and 2, just want to constantly farm nonstop until they are 6 slotted. And nothing frustrates me more than when my entire team all agree (either verbally, text, or by joining the push) for a push and we all agree, and then one guy just tps out or goes to a nearby neutral a camp as we push the high ground and then we get destroyed and the game does a 180 and game is now over. This is likely half of not more than half of my losses. It’s obviously a good deal of my wins too of course when the other team has this happen lol.

I've noticed that boots of travel are a must have as mid in archon. Since - as you mentioned - people dont push waves, mapmovements are completely unpredictable and fights break out randomly anywhere at any time. There is literally no way to 'farm your way to a fight'. And if you farm towards your team, to help them in case a fight breaks out, they'll 4 man walk away from you, or tp to the other side of the map for no reason. Suddenly you find yourself in a 3 v 5, when your whole team was there just 10 seconds earlier. Honestly, the situation you were in the first 25 mins of this game is what 90% of games in archon feel like. And if you have a hero who can only push one lane reliably youre screwed. I feel like its harder to carry archon games than high legend or ancient games. I need 60% of my brainpower to try and ignore all the bad shit thats happening and not get baited into bad fights

When I see a Spirit Breaker - the embodiment of a dust carrier - asking supports to carry dust, I know that I'm in 3k. I'm only halfway through the video at the part where BSJ says he's gonna flame a lot of SBs plays and I can't say that I am surprised.

Am 2k player, and this video is story of my life. Like really often I spend my time wondering "what the f**k is going on", and end up out farm of the other team and pushed as f**k. You made a spotlight on moments that will really helping me knowing how to react to such situations. Good job!

Very important to point out how the enemy team's movements can dictate where their vision is, and vision really wins games - especially with spirit breaker. That bane goes on you at @22:04 with a lot of confidence, so clearly has vision of you and should be dewarded when possible

Was 4k when I stopped playing a few years ago. Now recalibrated at 1.7k. People just stand around under tower, pinging that you come to stand with them :D. And it's becoming difficult to rank up, because they are really not playing/farming. It happens for the last 10 games that the enemy team does everything good. And my team feeds or goes 'killer' builds (i.e. mid necro brown boots lvl5 dagon, and thats it :D)

biggest problem imo is 2k will NOT take rosh, ever, without prompting. Even then, you have to drag them by the ear.

After new matchmaking implementation when they pushed 1k guys up during calibration I have this feeling every game. Guy on let's say PL just passively jungle and never pushes waves when opponent is showing across the map. While offlaner guy with a blink can't make any plays because he has to run in between 2-3 lanes defending towers from creeps while 2 cores with an escape jungle... 26:22 - you take neutrals instead of applying top tower pressure. While they do have bots, you would still have forced them to use to come to you while you then tp to mid.

at minute 14:00 u are talking about people gathering mid lane but doing nothing. That happens to me a lot and i go to farm somewhere, or go to defend tower etc. This drives me crazy :D When people just defent 3 people 1 tower against 1 support for example. And when I go to somewhere to farm, a fight breaks out and my team loses (since they show themselves to enemy and enemy gathers because there are 2-3 people doing nothing) ... That is so annoying.

There's little to no difference between 2K and 3K players. 1: You have position 4's and 5's who attempt to play like 1's, and this is obviously problematic as they are not playing the position of a support (and neither are the Cores), and they are soaking farm and experience that is absolutely detrimental to the outcome of the game. I usually automatically flag them as account buyers as anybody who actually earned their way to the average player's MMR would unironically need to know a thing or two about playing the game. 2: People are way too afraid of being called out for making a miniscule or critical error, that they don't even attempt to create space or make a play. They play just completely passive, hiding in the base, flash farming the creep waves. 3: Following up not creating space. Not buying items enabling themselves to initiate in combat, to counter initiate in combat, to shield, or heal, or push teammates out of the way. You'll have (sigh...) sniper supports going Tranquils into Aghs?? Hoodwinks rushing maelstrom?? Ogres rushing Midas into Aghs??? And it just doesn't end. And it's everything about their inability to comprehend the game atmosphere, or play the game. .... Absolutely no ability to play the laning phase. Not pressuring the opponent's ability to farm gold or experience (absolutely crucial to winning side lanes and building rapport) No ability to create farm by stacking camps. No ability to defend early sieges by casting spells and using mana. Always standing on the back line and not soaking or absorbing any of the incoming enemy damage (forcing the Cores to be the ones soaking the damage and inevitably dying - because the damage isn't distributed equally, the individuals who are intended to die, don't, and the ones who are not intended to die, do) I have played every position, and I would peel for any of my teammates if I had the capability of doing so, regardless of my position, and that's just something that has been forgotten about, because teaching the player base to report each other for miniscule things such as coaching and giving sage advice are the normal now?? My honest opinion is; the game has an incredibly massive learning curve, and the bare basic understanding of the way that the game is played out and the mechanics of the game are not discovered by the playerbase until upwards of 5,000 MMR. So there is absolutely no difference in mentality, skill, or gameplay leading up to that.

It's regional thing i believe, being an Ancient at Aussie server, no smoke, no stacking whenever safe lane winnning, and only goes for Tier 2 Towers after BKB on at least 2 cores. Been trying to play at SEA and EU, both are more active but man most of the game took >45min to end. Mid n pos 1 too eager for 6 slotted first before going high ground, even when leading by a landslide.

I started playing a week a go, i played league for almost 8 years and me and my friend are trying to learn dota, and we encounter this problem very often, people don't push lanes and expect that you make plays, so most of the games is me and him pushing sides while our team fights or farm mid together :| it's pretty frustating but i understand that some people don't have the same notion

This is my mmr 2800-3300 I fluctuate between these numbers for years, but I find nothing wrong with it, players at this level respect their role and not grief, I Don't want to grind hard at higher levels although I could (12 years of dota under belt). For occasional play I find this being the sweet spot of dota community. Mmr is just a number

I'm 3.5k MMR and I've never thought pushing waves is good for vision. I thought not-pushing was better for we would have enemy creeps nearer to farm

From my own experience, being ex high mmr player, not playing, droping to archon and then growing atlest to low divine atm (play just few games a week, takes time). Diference between players are mainly in mindset and communicarion. From high archon/low legend to high legend / low ancient players is only doference from my observations - some of them instaled the "team communication" (be it chat or voice) DLC and some not. (By communication i mean communicating moves/timings with team, not shouting at team and flaming). And then, the diference from low ancient to low divone is again realy simple - if ppls tilt higher they go 10 min jungle afk and then usualy proceeds to be somewhat usefull. At lower mmr they sell items and autoattack mid.

My last 3 games played enemy team kills to ours at min 10 or before... 14-2, 13-3, 15-4 n only 3 of those deaths were mine. Game is over at that point. Then after they fed their brains out they respawn in and go to fight right away, die and I get flamed for pushing lanes out. I know there's plenty I can work on but holy hell.

I think that as time goes on it'll become more and more of a prevalent thing but nobody talks about how it's a ten year old game and lots of people still playing are just addicted and the game is ritual. Theres no thinking just lots of autopilot. Plus, because the parallels of addiction and mental illness - often players have behaviour issues. Whether its problems with following other people, main character syndrome, rage issues etc. When game is good, its great. So often its just an hour of torture and personally im leaning more and more towards not gambling with my time. There are other games I can play that are always fun.

As a 3k support, I very often meet players who trashtalk me as "farming support" as i push out 3-4 waves pushing us one lane while they get killed in enemy jungle. People just need someone to blame.

It doesn't matter if you have PMA if you're teammates doesn't really cooperate or listen to you. That's the problem in low bracket games. Most of the time they're like a bot/AI and they are the ones that has the nerve to flame you. Lmao

Im 5k player and I had been a lot you that kind of situation when I playing with my 1k-2k friends they are always gruop up as 4 man and never do right stuff. Even when i telling them what to do , what items to get to sustain in fight or be able to fight, they just dont listen, they stick to random build from the internet, and hope it work. But hey try to guess who is bad in the team and who is blamed all the time ? :D Always ME! Cuz Im not with the team , sadly for them I dont do mistakes like them. So they are 1k sine 2-3 years :D

I have received like 10 reports in my last 10 games (2.2k) by just evading obvious bad fights and trying to split push. I don't get these people...

The main problem in 2k pubs lies in toxicity from bad situation. 90% flaming each others and start either feeding or afking. Then it is obviously hard to change the situation
