Narrowly escaping out of her window where she was held prisoner, Briell, the 65th wife of FLDS cult leader Warren Jeffs, continued to be on the run from her family who wanted to k*ll her. Warren was in prison and he knew she would testify against him, so he ordered people to take her down. After years of seeking safety and peace of mind, she returned to the hometown of the cult and was able to claim Warren’s 45 bedroom mansion. This is what she decided to do with it…

The fact that Brielle made it out of that hell, worked endlessly to find resources and support, went to school, and never stopped trying is ASTOUNDING👏❤️👏❤️

Shelise I just wanted to say, as a trauma therapist who has been through trauma, what you are doing with this work is so amazing and beautiful and needed. But on the other side of that coin I know how hard it can be to manage triggers within the work. It is super important to those of us who have chosen this path to help others who have been through the same things that we have been through but it's even more important to put our own mental health first. It's a difficult balance to keep for sure.
@jordy1007x
@jordy1007x 5 месяцев назад
I have a question if you don’t mind. What is the best way to go about finding a good fit for a trauma therapist? I have tried over the years. I made 1 cry half way through my 1 session and she needed a smoke break ( I think I broke her just getting through half my story). I am more than ready and know talk therapy is needed after doing as much healing as I can on my own, I just need the right fit.
@graceelizabethhoskins6379
@graceelizabethhoskins6379 5 месяцев назад
@@jordy1007x So this is a super great question and the answer is a bit loaded. Finding a therapist is much different than finding any other health professional because you need to click with them. You need to feel as comfortable as possible so that you can be vulnerable. I would recommend looking through Psychology Today and request a consultation over the phone or via email so that you can talk to them before hand and make sure it’s the right fit. I know with my own therapy experiences I prefer someone who is similar to me in opinion and experience so if that’s something you would also prefer, I would say to look for someone who has “lived experience” which is essentially code for “I have also had trauma and use my experience to help others”. So my advice is be picky, you have every right to be. You can also look for someone whose main specialty is trauma and who works with C-PTSD and can handle more “intense” trauma history. But the way those therapists reacted to you was unacceptable. Of course we are human but we are also taught not to have “extreme” reactions and I can’t ever imagine telling someone that their story makes me need a smoke. If anything I am extremely careful when doing trauma work to manage my own responses and emotions.

Seroquel is a strong anti-psychotic used to treat bipolar individuals. I can't imagine being forced to take that medication normally prescribed by a psychiatrist. Psychosis and possibly convulsions would occur to be withdrawn cold turkey. Whatever settlement Briell got wasn't large enough.
@AmandaWeeg
@AmandaWeeg 5 месяцев назад
I KNOW!!!! My jaw dropped when I heard that. I was on that med and if I didn’t take it at the same time every day, I felt physically and mentally terrible. And it made me have more suicidal ideation. I cannot imagine quitting that cold turkey. I was only on it maybe a year - it was too terrible for my physical and mental health. Today I’m good and haven’t been on meds for years, thankfully.
@C-SD

I've taken seroquel for years. As a mood stabilizer (not antipsychotic, there is a difference), for chronic pain, and for sleep issues. I don't have bipolar. No one should be takingit without a doctors prescription, but demonizing a medication that helps millions of people is not ok.

What an amazing woman and survivor. I have been captivated by her story over the last two sessions. I didn't realise just how dangerous and evil the cult she escaped from was. It was horrific the level of organised effort and lengths the cult would go to, to systematically control it's member's through fear and coerstion. Brielle has turned a horrendous negative, into an absolute positive helping other's to recover from their FLDS trauma. A very inspirational women. Thank you so much for telling us your first hand, and inside account of what happened in that cult.

Brielle is an absolute goddess. I admire her strength and the fact that she's in Short Creek helping people heal with the Dream Center, and yes I *LOVEEEEE* the fact that the house was his and now it's hers to help people with. I also have to admit, I didn't know there was a difference between polyamory and polygamy. I have friends that are polyam. I think that is perfectly fine and acceptable if that's what makes them happy. However, I draw a line with polygamy and I believe it's probably because of just the sheer number of cults that employ polygamy in their doctrine.

The only thing I can add here is that I'm a person who actually NEEDS Seroquel and I can't really tolerate more than 225mg a day, just more than a quarter of what they were giving Brielle 😢 Such an incredible story, the reclamation of it all is *chef's kiss*

Same, I can't even really do more than 75mg. Part of what makes Seroquel in particular so useful but also scary is it does different things as the dose starts getting higher, I can't imagine being on a high dose when you don't actually need it.
@greendragon4058
@greendragon4058 5 месяцев назад
I have a family member that was given Seroquel and the treatment. I like to see that stuff get off the shells personally Seroquel is dangerous. There are days where I did not know what the reactions were going to be is it going to go badly today is it going to be a good day today it changed her entire perspective of things. She's been off this medication for 12 years and she's 99% right now the 1% I believe because she was giving Seroquel and I did study it and I told the doctor I don't want her on that but at the same time I did not have a choice. I fought like the devil, it was making her sick and throw up be very confrontational with people. Maybe it has something to do with the drug companies conspiracy theory I do believe that is what happened, I have read many posts on this channel that has said Seroquel was not a good option and I know firsthand it was not thank you speaking up about this. You have been through an awful lot I'm coming forward and telling your story is wonderful I love to hear of people that go in and come out the other side being stronger you are one of those people that can now help other people and your inner light is showing just by watching the video I know it's hard my sister is in a cult we gave up trying to change her mind over 30 years ago to no avail. It takes a strong person to get out and once you see it you can see it again A Million Miles Away and somebody else❤❤

I just wanted to post that the organization is a non-denominational Christian organization not the LDS Christian. I’ve noticed that in the last ten years or so the LDS faith has been calling themselves Christian. We don’t believe the same things as the LDS faith does.

Have been captivated by Brielle‘s story, listening to every word, and trying to imagine what it was like to experience her life up until the point she escaped and then being so brave to successfully navigate through the psychological trauma to where she is today. I live in Nova Scotia Canada. I know that she is one of many stories of young girls, boys, men and women who are out there that will never be heard but we know for a fact of the continued abuse and manipulation and indoctrination. All I was thinking was, in a perfect world, I wish I had known and I would’ve called you and picked you up and brought you to my place in Canada. What I realized was that the feelings that you emoted in me from your story is related to my own feelings on a certain level, known or unknown. Thank you for the courage to reveal your story.

Listening to how she is learning about life outside the cult is what I call truly being 'Born again'.

Going to school does help when in mental crisis. IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE OUT OF CONTROL YOU CAN CONTROL WHAT YOU ARE LEARNING. Also the daily curriculum helps to set a healthy daily rythm.

Love this so much!! "Hey now you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid!" (Lyric from song: 'All Star." ) I love how you sort of stumbled into getting the WJ mansion to use to help people get away from these kinds of groups, WHAAAT! Get it girl!! I'm so proud of you that you had this grit and gumption to do the right thing even in the face of threats and criticism and abuse for it for most of your life. I love how you were like this baby chick and just kept picking at the FLDS egg-bubble that confined you, without relenting! You're so inspiring Briell!! I hope you and your hubby see all the dreams come true! I wish I was closer, I'd donate a lot of stuff to the Dream House! Shelise, your work here has really helped me and I'm sure others, open up to the truth of the things we've experienced in these kinds of controlling groups. Telling one's story is so important but I was always afraid that it meant the narratives they teach 'were right' so I haven't been very open with mine. Watching your channel is really helping people to start to find courage and voice to do that too. Thank you and your mom for all you're doing!!

First of all, we need a baby bump update 😊 🍼 second, may the good Lord above bless her and all the others seeking freedom. May your inspiring journey lead you down an enriched path: full of love, peace, rest, smiles and true relief from what chained you before. ❤❤❤

I know spaces at shelters are really scares but seriously the fact they saw she was in such a serious mental health situation and they still told her “you can go to the hospital but we won’t hold your bed”. Absolute madness!

in high doses, the medications they had Briell on can cause neurological damage. One of the first signs is in the fine motor control for speech. Briell, you sound like you have the FLDS / shortcreek accent; it doesn't come across as an impairment.

You are my hero! What a brave woman you are. All I did was leave the mainstream LDS church, and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. What you went through is the stuff of epic tales.

800 mg of Seroquel is GNARLY! sometimes my dose of 200 mg/night 'impresses' medical professionals, but 800 would make a person catatonic 😢 I can't imagine coming off of that cold turkey.

When I was first put on psych meds, I was on Seroquel because that's what my cousin was on. They took me off of it. I like what I'm on now. My ex-in-laws wanted me off my medication. I took it in secret, because you can't just go off your medication.
