Polygamist, Fundamentalist Mormon (FLDS) leader, Warren Jeffs, is currently serving a life sentence in prison for CSA which he claims was revelation from God. Tier-3 sex offenders are not supposed to have those privileges, and I don't believe they do. I believe that the cults are throwing their imprisoned leaders under the bus, using their name, letter, and voice to keep the lies alive, doing anything they can to keep the child-sex, money, and free labor flowing.

As part of Warren Jeff’s conviction, there should have been a stipulation that prevents him from contacting anyone from the FLDS community by phone, mail, or in person.

Morally yes, legally he was convicted for CSA, not for being the leader of a cult. It's basically unrelated from a legal standpoint.

Thank you for mentioning that their trauma shouldn't be our entertainment. The line certainly gets blurry on channels like these between education and entertainment for those of us who aren't coming specifically for healing and community. Everyone of these individuals is a person with feelings and a journey ahead of them

I have watched many Growing Up in Polygamy videos and Sam is so calm when he talks about his story that it never sounded so terrible. I wanted to comment on Brielle's episodes, but words were escaping me. Her story was so powerful. The first episode broke me emotionally, and then there was her triumph in the second episode. It was all alot to process, but as I'm watching this episode, I'm finding my words. My heart goes out to everyone who has escaped and to all of those who are still inside the group. I also want to say how much love and respect I have for those who are able to reach down and bring forth their stories in order to bring these atrocities to light.

Conspiracy to commit a crime IS a crime! Whether or not someone is in jail while plotting a future criminal action is irrelevant. If Jeff’s is actively plotting future heavenly events in his evil temple… we know what that means and so does law enforcement! This should be a punishable offense. Jeff’s should never be released.

It is horrific, and so preventable this continuing abuse from a perpetrator in prison, this should be stopped on all levels- safeguarding. The prison system/justice system alone should have this duty, and the law needs changing if it doesn’t support preventing promotion of CSA, kidnappings and potential mass suicide even if you leave out the brainwashing and toxic cult dynamics being enough to bother preventing innocent kids and vulnerable adults from.

29:37 “Translation” requiring death is also something Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell preached AND acted on. After killing her children, they referred to them as “translated beings”. It’s so sick I don’t even have the words. I hope they all stay in prison for the rest of their lives.

The conversation about "miracle healings" totally makes sense that it could be a "placebo effect"! We really tend not to give our brains and bodies enough credit. I was speaking with a pharmacological oncologist about placebo effect and wondering what her experience is, because my husband is *so* susceptible to it, and she told me that in different trials and clinical settings, it's often up to 30% effective; so up to 30% of people's minds/bodies will start to heal without medication, where it "should" require serious medical treatment! It blew my mind! She's also seen it in clinical settings, not drug trials, where religion and spirituality was a factor, and they can see the same effects. Whether your brain 110% believes that medications are healing you, or God is healing you, or whatever your higher power may be, it often has the same effect. It's absolutely amazing. Just to clarify, I'm not discounting that some people may have actual healing powers ♡

@CultstoConsciousness I also kept my last name when I got married. (Living in Germany) Some people have found it quite weird, but I personally find it very empowering to be, sort of, my own person - and my husband never made a big deal out of it. Our bond is about more than a shared last name, and I just love it. It used to be traditional for women in Germany to take up their husband's name, but more women now keep their last names, which I find really important. Like everything else, keeping or changing your last name has to be a choice in the name of feminism. Also, a big thankyou for all the cult survivors coming out and sharing their stories. It's such a brave step to take and so important for awareness. Being politically active, among others for women's rights and minority rights, I can only give you kudos. You all help the cause of equal rights for everybody so much!

I'm happy to find your channel. I grew up during the Gothard period. My mom claimed God told her to take me out of school to teach me the Bible. We also started going to a small non-denominational church where the pastor spoke in tongues and had a very powerful story about how he had had an out of body encouter with God. I also went to a couple Gothard seminars. The first one asked everyone to vow to trade dating for courtship. I made that vow shortly before I got asked out on my first date. I went out with the guy for a while but I felt so guilty about "breaking a vow" that things didn't end well. I ended up bouncing from cult to cult spending over 11 years in an extreme SDA cult. Finally I broke free of all that. At 44 I still hadn't been on any more dates and unfortunately fell into the hands of a predatory repair man. My spiritual and emotional health went down completely after that but the past year or so I've been finally piecing together a life that's meaningful. It's helpful to hear all these stories.

I know it was kind of a side note, but I loved the chat about the power/importance of names! I removed part of my surname (it didn’t feel like it was a part of me at all/it was my mum’s maiden name and she was relentlessly bullied for it), and added a middle name (a Grandmother’s first name) when I was 18. I chose my name to fit me :) So when I got married I didn’t change it. It’s mine as I made it, and it’s also a link to my cultural background and to my deceased father. Whereas my husband’s surname has none of that significance to me, and same for him vice versa (so he kept his too).

I was lucky to be born into a clan that had families that practice several "opposing" faith practices ie; Catholic, Jewish, several sects of Protestantism, and Muslim. We all prayed to the same Creator but called Creator by different names. All of the sacred writings have the same base. This taught me to question and explore any and everything that feels off kilter to my spirit. Joining you in your exploration of faith feels like home. Thank you.

Our brains are powerful. I’m not a believer of any kind, but once my son friends mom and all their friends prayed over me. I didn’t believe in it but I did feel better for a while. The placebo effect is real and powerful. I could just imagine if I was a believer it would a diehard believer.

I love all of your guests. It boggles my mind he is still allowed to do this from prison. I think that piece of advice is wonderful, to be kind to people and have them open up to you if they want, you don't want to read traumatize these folks and these young people that's when people start running back to what feels comfortable for them even if it's being back in the cult. Thank you! Keep in mind the FLDS and LDS are very different. However, there is still a lot of manipulation and control in the mainstream LDS church as well. And everyone’s experience of it is very different. Hard to really know what’s going on in their minds

I grew up for ten years in an Amish Mennonite cult where I got punished for wanting to be a fashion designer and my drawings were destroyed in front of me and I was spanked for drawing them. They let me draw whatever I wanted then spanked me afterwards until I could no longer design originally. I am 30 years old now and I have been able to heal from that and now I am designing clothes and after 20 years of dealing with the trauma I am relearning how to sew again. I am also learning new techniques and I was too traumatized to learn them before. I am still a Christian but I follow a group that allows me to be creative all I want and they have helped my heart and emotions to heal.

i think constantly about how close i was to being born into the FLDS church. part of my family founded that offshoot of the mainstream mormon church, and my great-grandfather's brother, Leroy, was the "prophet" before Rulon Jeffs. i don't know how many cousins i have who were caught in that group. i hope they've all made it out. there's a man in salt lake, Dr. Dan Fisher, who i used to work for who was part of the FLDS group and left. he was called by Leroy to be the dentist for the polygamist groups in utah, and after he left, he used his success to help people get out. he's done a lot for folks who have left that group, as well as the AUB. i wouldn't be surprised if he'd helped people from the order and other polygamist groups, too. he's an eccentric guy, but so incredibly warm and kind. might be worth reaching out to!

Who are the outside suppliers that are turning a profit from the FLDS? Who supplies the food, pots & pans, dishes, fabric, sewing notions, shoes...the list goes on and on? What trucking companies are making deliveries? One interview mentioned that there isn’t outside shopping, you send a list to the warehouse, so who are the companies turning a profit from this. There would have to be quite a purchasing department and warehouse operations within this cult to keep this many people alive while incarcerated.

SO MANY well connected heads of organized crime, ultra wealthy, truly evil and maybe insane groups and organizations still control with an iron fist from prison. This has always been the way it is, even in the earliest times around the world. You are right when you talk about his fate in general population. Another example of this is how it is. There will always be those who shed tears and beat their chest while screaming injustice about this happening to him. Most of us will rejoice, and I do not say this to be cruel to his followers, it's just how it is.

There is a group of FLDS children, all young girls, living next door to our ranch with a FLDS woman who is not their mother. She is older (60-ish) and the girls are preteens or early teens. And one of the girls told me she was not their mother. I think they were taken from their family’s and are being hidden. 😢

If one of them told you this, it’s probably a cry for help. Maybe she doesn’t even know she’s asking for help, but on a more unconscious level, she knows her life isn’t going to get better. They aren’t supposed to be talking to “gentiles” about their lives or circumstances, so telling you that makes me think it’s a cry for help.

@@beckajessop3309 I agree. Sadly her and her horse disappeared. She asked and we allowed her to ride in our arena and on our property. My husband gave her a customer hoof pick he makes and after they we never saw her again. I think we may have got her in trouble for that. I felt like they thought we were getting too close. 😢 recently a group of girls came over looking for their run away goats. New little girls than in previous years.

I love that they have insiders working to dismantle the FLDS from the inside. Thats the only way to get an organization thats SO big, to fall. I hope more will come to their senses and divulge information that can help take this thing down. It amazes me that so many people an be so deeply indoctrinated. Every single one of them who have suffered because of this man and his minnions are victims. Its so sad.

When talking about the power of faith and belief I'm reminded of Derren Brown's Fear and Faith show. He wanted to see if he could sort of manipulate faith and feelings to go some way into explaining psychologically phenomenons around spiritual events and fear cures. Very interesting, I wonder if that would go into his experience in what happened to him

I’m a newer follower, so possibly I just haven’t been watching long enough, but so many people don’t ever talk about the racism inherent within fundamentalist beliefs. (And even still quietly taught in mainstream Mormonism today- but I know I don’t have to explain it to you, you grew up in it. Lol) I’m just trying to say, and probably not doing a very good job of it, how wonderful it is to see you shed ALL the lies. May Christ continue to lead you as your family moves forward. I am proud to say that I am from San Angelo,Texas where Warren Jeff's was tried and convicted and sent to prison. We had a front row seat from the raid at the compound through his trial and his sentence

Incredibly relatable… I grew up in a cult, I experienced miraculous healings… I found it hard to leave because of those beliefs seemingly being confirmed and reinforced… but I have no doubt it was a harmful cult whatever I experienced and I still experience some stuff so can’t be necessary to be in the cult 😂but my god it was terrifying to leave not being able to rationalise the experience that good things can happen in bad places

I may be repeating what has already been said. If something does happen from his revelations, the jail should be responsible. They have to know what he is saying. I understand that the few thousand people who continue to stay and trust his words are in the mind set of years of being beaten down, however, someone needs to stop him from doing more harm. Thank you for continuing to keep this in the spotlight. Very concerning that he is able to continue his lies (in my opinion).

I’ve just recently started to hear these stories and very appreciative and impressed by the courage of individuals like Sam and Melissa. I have a couple questions. I understand the brainwashing that keeps people believing despite Warren Jeffs being in prison. I think- if my math is correct- Sam was still with FLDS maybe four years after Jeffs was arrested. And when Sam left he still believed Jeffs was the prophet. So what I don’t hear much from many of these testimonies is how they make the psychological leap from believer to rejecting all they grew up with. I’m really interested because it’s not just relatable for people in cults… it’s relatable for all individuals who grew up with abuse on so many levels and control of information. Gosh the connections I can think of are almost limitless. But the important missing piece is how do they make the leap?? Most people cannot wrap their heads around disbelieving what has created their identities. Really fascinating stuff. I think what makes people like Sam and Melissa amazing is that they are so very deeply kind, respectful and and honor the journeys of everyone.
