Lorna Jane, does exactly what it says on the tin! It's like you're branding your boat, very girl power. Get a matching track suit with your name embroidered on it, own that boat girl! :)
I love Pixie. It embraces happiness with a little impishness tossed in. She’s a little boat and Pixies are fantastical little faeries. Then you could call her Pix for short. All great names. I’m excited for you.
Hazel was a comedy TV show in the US during the 1960's. She was a maid and it starred the actress Shirley Booth. Shirley Booth was well known for a movie called Come Back Little Sheba......so finally getting to the point, perhaps Sheba would be a good name AND Hazel episodes are available on RU-vid..
I think your boat needs her own name because you're two unique entities. All of the names are nice but Pixie is a good name because your vessel will be petite and precious.
Of the names you've shortlisted I would go for Foxglove. There are plenty of those along the towpaths in summer and it has a lovely 'feel' to it. Congrats on getting the final payment sorted - great news! 😁👍
I think Lorna Jane would be an excellent idea. I was going to suggest it before you did. We are having one built and we are going to call it 'Rainboat'. We have also just called our dog Tiger Lilly. Good luck.
All of your names are fine, but I think Lorna Jane would be too personal and as you said, if you ever sold her, the new owners probably wouldn't want a boat with the previous owners name on it. Here are a few names that came to my mind. Since your boat is a smaller one this time, I immediately thought of Firefly for some reason. Or instead of Pixie you could call her Fae which is French and means faerie or elf. As for nature names. I like Sylviana, which means woods or forest and Willow. I also love Ivy, short and sweet, but then I am partial to that because I call my house Ivywood Cottage. LOL!!! Something more masculine could be Peregrine, which means traveler. Lara means Lady of the Water and would be appropriate! So for something in the dragon line how about Dragonfly? Or if you want something mythical you could go with Avalon, which is of celtic origin. Arwyn means noble maiden. For flower names I like Forget Me Not, Rosebud, Primrose, Briar Rose, Petunia or Violet. Anyway, I could go on and on and on. Have fun naming your boat!!!!
"if you ever sold her, the new owners probably wouldn't want a boat with the previous owners name on it. " In that case they can change it. But more imprtantly; every boat was named by their owners at some point, the name is allways something that meant something to one of the previous owners. The name "Lorna Jane" sounds to me like a character from a superman movie, they'd have to seriously hate Lorna (a person they did not know untill they wanted to buy the boat) in order to dislike that name *because* it's her name. I'm spending too much time on this comment.
Pixie Dragon? Just a idea to pay homage to your previous boat and a name that you mentioned in the video. But do like the name Pixie and Violet or could have it as Violet Robin! (Or Violet Robyn) but that does sound like a rebel. Calling the boat Lorna Jane think it a bit of a personal, not selfish but out the five I would put that last, plus if you end up selling it to a new owner, not sure if they be happy it the boat named after the previous owner. Foxglove does sound a good name but I'm more into the names Pixie, Violet and Robin, those names are short But looking forward to hearing the boat name once you decided. Nice video Lorna
I think you should name your narrowboat after a pivotal event in your life, something that made your decision to live as you do, and maybe honour the event or person who helped you live the life you have chosen...
Felix? Short boys name and gets cats in there too. Can't wait to see the new boat. Out of the five, favourite is Lorna Jane (Could have one name on each side if pushed for signwriting space, would also keep people not in the know confused) Least favourite, Pixie and Robin equally. I know a Robin and you really wouldn't want to name your boat after him! Good luck with the choosing.....
Well I would say something that lives along the towpath, like blackberries...... or just Blackberry... or maybe Prickles.....or Pickle.....but if I had to pick one from your list I would say Pixie.
Lorna Jane - Just no. Tempting bad luck. You are this boat’s captain and boats should never be named after living captains at all, let alone the one actually commanding it at the time. Foxglove - safe choice if a bit dull. Pixie - My favorite of the five. Robin - People will assume you mean the bird and not Batman’s sidekick unless you paint Batman’s sidekick on the side. Violet - My second favorite choice of the five, but make sure the boat is painted that colour - will look very silly calling it that if the boat is green! I liked “ Rainbow Lollies” best of all the suggestions (again you’ll need a paint job to match) as that is both fun and very original, you can guarantee that this will be the only boat on the CRT register of that name. Alternatively how about “Ultraviolet”?
I say Lorna Jane . I had a two word boat called Shell Bell. I thought it might be an issue when selling being so personal but it isn't really. Also like Violet but that should then the boats colour.
If it's got to be one of these Robin as they are meant to be the spirit of a loved one coming to see if your ok. When we first started looking fora boat, the very first one we went aboard was called Rainbow, if we'd been in a more advanced state we would have bought her on the spot because of the feeling she gave off, every boat we've looked at since we've always said does it have the Rainbow feeling. Finally found it and should be aboard very soon. I know you mentioned your twitter name so thought this could work?
May be an idea to create a poll in the community section 🙂 I like Pixie, Violet for your boat, although if I had a boat myself I like the name Floater ;-)
You mentioned Percy and years ago (before you were born) there was a movie by the same name. My wife and I took a neighbor with us and we laughed so hard the neighbor went into labor. The name Percy makes me smile to this day.
go with Lorna jane have a sign righter paint you onto the sides just like rum pirate has on her barge in case you start a business keeps it easy best wishes from Wales martin.
I love Violet . You mentioned Albert - you could feminise it to Alberta. Robin is cute (is your boat going to be red?) While I like the name Lorna it might be a bit too personal and possibly make it a target for unwanted attention - you could shorten it to L J (as you have shortened your boat) . Don't bother with Percy - you wont want to be riding around on a tiny Percy Pecker ! (lol)
In seriousness, on the registry of names your last four choices already have 10+ boats with the name. There is only one other Lorna Jane showing. There are also multiple named Rainbow....but only a couple named Lolly. (Apparently Ben Dover isn't previously used...lol)
I agree with another commenter that naming her Lorna Jane might invite unwanted attention. But as you said for a short time you called yourself Pixie. So that would be a good name for her. As for naming her after your grandfather, there’s no reason you shouldn’t give her a masculine name. So my vote is for either Pixie or your grandfather.
Hi Lorna. My wife and I both think the Lorna Jane is a good name for a boat. The Lorna Jane...very nautical sounding. I personally do not like pixie, too cutsie imo. Percy just reminds me of Thomas the Tank Engine, and foxglove is just weird. (as I said, my opinion only) I'm sure it's not an easy decision for you, so good luck friend!
I love the name Libertalia. It has a good meaning (google it, I think you’d approve 😊). Out of your shortlist though, Pixie is my favourite. Lorna Jane is too personal, Violet and Foxglove seem too ‘old’.
Lorna, have you watch this video back. Those eyes in the bottom right. My mother name was Rosa her sisters were Daisy, Violet and Ivy. All named after ships, Grandfather was a marine.
Agree just chose one you like.. Percy & Albert are common, Love Edna...nope you can do a version of your name NO! NOT rainbow lollies! NO awful... I absolutely love VOILET.. LOVE HAZEL! When you get on it you will know.. You need to be on it I think.. Violet first choice and then Robin as is a sweet little bird great for a little boat and can be male or female..
Why does everyone get so hung up about changing the name on a boat when you buy it? My last boat had a very personal name when I bought it and my granddaughter, who had been very upset when we sold ‘Harvey’ the RV we had in Canada, asked if I was going to call the boat Harvey too? And so it was, the NB Harvey Too was born! Maybe if Robin was your favourite, you should name your boat Robin Too !
I don't hate any of your short list names. They would all work. Of the five, I would favor Robin. They are pretty birds, and the name is short and easy to understand over the radio. Had a friend with a sailboat called Puffin. Of course, they named their dinghy (with a British Seagull outboard) Huffin.
Percy? NO¬!¬!! There was a film of that name, where a character had an extension of a bit we can't discuss sewn on! Robert Heinlein wrote a sci-fi book, the leading character was a girl called Friday. - - You didn't like my earlier suggestion of Lorna's Doom, then, when you were contemplating a name, last time? :-) Of your five choices, I'd go with Pixie, because they are small and mischievous!
Crumbs I thought there was pregnancy announcement coming then! Good luck with the run in to the new boat. I'm sure you'll make a good choice when the time comes!
