Best advice. When I lost my husband I was in a fog. I didn’t inherit money, but was blessed with a family that helped me figure out how to get out of the house I couldn’t afford and into a condo that was paid off. Sometimes you just need to get to a place where you can get through the day to day and grieve, before you can start making the best financial decisions.

We went to one of your seminars in Portland, OR. and that changed our lives. Now we do not owe a penny to anybody and we are happy, debt free and retired, because we follow your advice. I am so impressed with deceased husband, taking care of his bride, and ensuring her continued lifestyle. I'm also impressed with this young man to call in and ask how he can help his mother. Dave's advice was outstanding! Guarantee the safety of the money, where she doesn't lose any, double her monthly income, and enjoy her remaining years, however she likes. Someone commented on this as a legacy, and I agree 100% with that. What a legacy!

So i am much younger, 43 years old, but this is exactly how i and my wife picked our financial planner. I picked a guy that if i call him with questions, he will always make as much time as i need to be comfortable with the answer. I have been through a few of them over the years that promised to make my money, this is the first one that has explained how he was going to make my money and answered every question i had, no matter how stupid they seemed.

Never just blindly trust someone that seems confident but doesn’t take the time to bring you on board. I never let me clients make a financial decision they don’t feel 100% comfortable with even if it takes 2-3 meetings.

It's recommended to save at least 15% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 15% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.

@@nbaworld4426 it's because it's one of the top 3 answers I see for these types of questions and it is given to new investors, old investors, those approaching retirement, those in retirement, etc. People always want a single answer for these types of things when it's a lot more complicated and depends on risk factors and expectations. With this much money and with the way the market is at historically now, just dumping everything into an ETF that is so beyond overvalued (given current known environment), it is not wise and a quick way to drop the $700K+ by $100K or more easily in a year. Basically you need to balance. Congrats on retirement. I've written for both TMF and SA and had hundreds of articles in WSJ. Very few people listen because they want to get rich quick. So basically, it's not that SPY is "bad", it's just overused as the answer for everything for all situations.

@@xcen1There are options with CD’s that allow you to have the monthly interest deposited into a checking or savings account each month. The principal is locked…but only for the term of a CD..if you do a CD ladder then there will always be a CD coming due soon so you wouldn’t necessarily have to do the option where the interest is taken out and put in a checking or saving..this way the CD can make money on its own interest through the term and you can still grab money from a CD when it matures.

Hey Dave, Stop telling people to start "FEELING"! That is not smart! I can make you "FEEL", Happy, Sad, "SCARED", I pretty much can make you "FEEL" anything that I want to. You should be telling people to "CHECK" their "FEELINGS" and make sure that they are not getting something that makes them feel good or safe but yet they have been taught the wrong way? It is possible that someone can teach someone the wrong thing and they could believe it so much that even if they are being hurt by it they will not see it until it is way too late. They need to be asking questions like, * Why am I feeling the way I am feeling? * Does what I am learning really add up? * Do I get different answers when I talk to people whether it is someone who I have been referred to or someone who has no connection to the original person or the person that the original person referred me to? * Is a person trying to get you to jump into the boat or make you feel like if you don't take the deal you will lose out even if you want it really bad? * Even when the answer is NO and someone is willing to tell you that answer evenknow you don't want to hear it but they will make a real difference in you getting swi9ndled?
