I think this was an effort to humanize her, but not in the way most people would think; it was to show that, indeed, the Nazi’s were mostly just regular people who did mundane things like picnics, as well as committing unspeakable horrors, and gave it little thought. It’s a cautionary scene; evil is banal and we all could be capable of despicable actions if we don’t take the time to introspect on our humanity.

Thematically, S2E7 is about fatherhood, while S2E8 is more about motherhood. Starlight semi-reconciles with her mom, despite her mom's overbearing and hypocritic to the bone. Ryan's gentleness and kindness demonstrates Rebecca's motherhood, which saves Ryan from both Homelander's path of evil and from Butcher's...uh...butchering? In the end, Butcher gave the St. Christopher's pendant to Ryan as a way of acknowledging Becca's motherhood, because he saw much Becca in Ryan. Stormfront wanted to impose her "tough-love" motherhood on Ryan, but was frustrated because Homelander was "too soft" (by his standard) with his son. When dying, Storm was just reminiscing a happy day with her daughter.

Jensen Ackles is gonna kill it as Soldier Boy. If the interaction between him and Anthony Starr on Entertainment Weelky's channel where all the actors did skits in character but out of costume is any indication, those two will have quite an interesting dynamic. How do you counter the manly intimidation of Anthony Starr's Homelander? With someone just as manly and intimidating.

All I took from this revelation is that monsters are human and have human connections. That doesn't make them less monstrous.

I'm really amused by the irony: one of the smartest characters of the show, always plotting and manipulating, proud of her powers and strength, finally end up lying on the floor, with her brain fried, mumbling nonsenses, totally useless and vulnerable

This show is really great because they portray the different levels of duality. No one is truly good or truly evil. Stormfront is maybe the closest to truly evil, but they still have her love her daughter and care deeply about her daughter. It’s always freaky how it makes you empathize with the bad people too. I kept default empathizing with Homelander especially when we learned about his past, but like he is a horrible person. It’s terrifying and that makes it brilliant

Man, that's honestly a really sad and sweet moment. Or it would be, if it wasn't said by a Nazi who literally killed 59 people in an apt complex, because they were black and that's just one of her atrocities.

I think its also humanizing how homelander seemingly tries to protect Ryan when he took him out to eat its like he genuinely understand how ryan feels and didn't want that for him

I wouldn't like to imagine Ryan turning into evil, he killed his own mother in front of the love of her life (Butcher), and then being threatened by his biological father who happens he realizes is a psycho covered in blood.

Becca always had a bad time dealing with superheroes, Barry Allen and Homelander, and now Ryan had to loose someone very close to him, if only she had stayed with Barry things would have been different, but he can fix this......run Barry..... run!!!!!

Given that Stormfront has bullets bouncing off of her, how did a knife to the eye hurt her? Very confusing.

I'll tell you something that you probably don't know yet: Stormfront says: "Wie wir dort zu dritt gesessen,..." which means "How the three of us sat there..." We wouldn't say that in German nowadays. We would say: "Wie wir dort zu dritt saßen" This somewhat old-fashioned German is possibly also meant to give a hint to her roots. I just wanted to tell you that in case anyone is interested ;-)

They straight MURDERED that finale, it was amazing. They hit all the points they want to, it was gripping, hilarious, and also really did great to capture the more humanizing sides of the antagonists

Eric Kripke is a genius. I've watched his shows since Supernatural, and everything he wrote are brilliant. The Boys' season 2 finale couldn't be better

I thought it was a great touch to have her speak German. Sidenote: did the writers imply that natural-born Supes are more powerful than man-made Supes because of Ryan's blast? I think so. Also opens the door to analyze a lot of other aspects of the show, too.

That scene was awesome and the whole ending gave me goosebumps

Why didn’t y’all just put what she says as the subtitles instead of German?

I didn't even think about not everyone understanding what she said. I'm German, watched in English (like I do), and actually thought the scene to be nicely done. Her German was better than in most German language scenes in US American production, where it takes me a sentence or two to realize that they speak German. :) They must have had a speech coach on set, or the actress actually speaks German.

I had a bit of an issue with that last episode. In an earlier episode Homelander let loose with his laser vision right in the middle of Stormfront's chest and it barely left a red mark, yet Homelander's son was somehow able to cut all of Stormfront's limbs off using the same super power. This means one of two things: Either the writers messed up the plot OR Homelander's son is FAR more powerful than Homelander.

Nothing she can say redeems her...just cause she remembers one good moment

That beat down kind of reminded of the end of Death Proof when Kurt Russell’s Stuntman Mike gets beaten to death by Zoë, Abernathy and Kim.

“Surprisingly human”- yes, the most despicable people throughout time have also *drum roll* been human. With human wants and needs deep down. If you dehumanize the dehumanizers you yourself are no better off. We are all capable of the greatest goods and worst evils. Language is important.

Why show the flashback scene of her as Liberty? She had a different voice too. This season was a bit sparse with her reasonings

She was one my favorite characters. So beautiful and deadly. I really hope she's back in season 3.

To me I think this was such an excellent choice by the writers. We would all assume (as did I) that she would be just spouting some Nazi rhetoric with what could be presumably her last moments of life. But the reality of her mind regressing to her deepest thoughts where she isn’t thinking about white pride or racist Nazi aspirations, but of a happy memory of her daughter that she shared with her husband years ago. To me this says a few key things. One, she should have been satisfied enough enjoying the simple pleasures of life with her family. She didn’t need all this extra baggage hating other races and deciding to create these super humans which would f up the world in irreversible ways for years to come. Her current crippled state, along with witnessing everyone she loved die, is the ultimate price she paid for her hateful, entitled beliefs. But two, I think it’s the writers trying to say something to us viewers about what really matters in life. It’s those small moments with people we care about that we should truly value above all else. At the end of the day she’s a Nazi, so F her. But I think in humanizing her like this, it shows that even evil, hateful people are capable of love. Which in truth complicates our view of them. Either way a fantastic performance by Aya Cash (a Jewish actress btw)

That ending was so satisfying, Homelander gets his due with him having to cave to blackmail and Stormfront finally getting an ironic death by the spawn of (in her words) “the perfect man”

If people think even monstrously evil people can’t do something human like love and miss her daughter, they put themselves at risk for dismissing the evils of people they know in real life because they saw them do some good at some point.

I feel like in season 3 they're going to have storefront in a hospital bed. Some walks in with a pen and note pad. And they write down what she's saying, promoting the flash back to the secen before the seven, and to the days of nazi Germany and how the created V

It's always amazing to me how butcher is literally standing up to somebody like homelander. Like think about how unbelievably terrifying that would actually be. Without the suspension if disbelief. Like I know it's glaringly obvious,but Jesus Christ man.

as a german i can tell that she kinda naild it compared to other actors for example when i watched sherlock holmes a game of shadows for the first time i cringed because of the german accent and the few german words but she did a great job and i could understand every single german word coming from her and it didnt even had such a hard english accent
