Online MOTU...forget it. I'm paying the same price as i would in Walmart AND Shipping an Handling. REALLY??? NO THANKS! i think the fact that we are cutting out the middle man should give us a break in price. Their greed kills my perceived need.
i'm tired of Modern for two reasons: TOO BIG (size matters not, i'd rather have 3.75") and TOO HARD TO GET (price is exorbitant and scalpers swoop in and grab everything before you ever wake-up)
Im into modern collecting of they old cartoon or toys we used to have Mike and no longer buying the vintage stuff... Im like we finally getting what we were supposed to get in the 80s and 90s.😁💡☕️👍
My attitude toward collecting has always been "I get what I think is kickass". Is it completist, NO. But if I finally get that figure that I have been dying for years to get (MM-01 Optimus, for example), and it brings me joy for years to come...I will take that any day over buying worthless drek to "build a figure". I have neither the funds, nor the care, for such folley.
😎 There are lots of toy lines that I have not gotten into because they want too much money for each figure. So for years, I've been buying less and less because of that. I usually only buy from BTS if I can pre-ordered from them! Other exclusives from other places I just give up on. Anyway, vintage toys are more important to me, but I do like some of the improved articulation in modern figures. So, whatever's less expensive than that's what I get. 👍
I hate that Star Wars black series are $30+ in most places. I only get them if I find discounts on OT characters and pay full for the occasional new figure usually a Mandalorian character or something I find cool. But prices are insane.
@twentyoneplusvideo0472 You have to look for the best deal you can find now a days because everything is extremely to expensive like cost of living. So you have to pick and choose which socks!
Yep the charm of vintage will never be out done but the modern stuff looks soo great and we would have been ultra excited to get these modern figures back in the 80s
1st time watching your channel. So I am new to this. Only been at it about a year. What started it was setting up my vintage Star Wars collection that was in storage for decades. Once I set that up I started looking into what people are collecting today. That led me to Marvel Legends, of which I collect MCU versions of characters, I’m happy to say I’m at a pretty good spot because I have most of the key players from the Infinity War Saga. I’m already seeing reissues I get to gleefully pass on because I already own previous versions of them. My weakness is WWE figures, grew up watching it in the 80’s and 90’s really trailed off by 2005, but I started watching again. I started only collecting the new versions of older characters, then found a few current ones cool. Now just about any character I don’t have could be purchased. I can control myself at times. I only want ones that put a smile on my face or I have fond memories of. I do buy many of the hogan figures that come out, but in most cases I just need one version to represent. The past year has taught me to hate store exclusives, Walmart especially. So now instead of hunting, if I find it, I find it. If not no worries. As for Mattel creations, I will order from them, and if it’s over $80 I use the 4 payment plan. I actually don’t mind ordering from them. The last 2 times I did, the item came within 7 days of the purchase. I’m starting to slow down, and maybe find another hobby. I’m running out of space and want to save more money to do other stuff like travel. I think 2024 is actually going to be a big year for collecting, and I do not think as much will be hitting the bargain outlets like in years past. So it’s going to be a bit harder to find stuff when you are up against the scalpers. Good video, thanks!
I feel your pain & admire your approach to collecting. Living in Australia, the stock availability is limited & the prices high - even after currency conversion. I’m jealous of you having an Ollie’s. One thing to consider with price increases are some of the base materials & how their prices have tracked over the past decade. The main ingredient in most plastic material is a derivative from crude oil and natural gas. Crude oil and natural gas. Not an excuse for such price hikes, but definitely a contributing factor….. after greed.
Yes everything is getting more expensive but collectors are now trained to wait for clearance and that may pay off. I watch stuff sit on shelves for weeks when it used to fly off shelves in hours or minutes due to price
Yes it was a Lambda class starship I believe named Tydirium. I liked the Imperial shuttle the most because I had the small ISP 6 as a kid and never knew they made the big one until a decade later
Yeah seriously, it’s just getting ridiculous. Trying to find toys in the wild and or having to buy online to make sure I get what I would like to add to my collection. As an example, I wanted to make sure I got the new legacy evolution sandstorm and it cost me $70 to get it to Hawaii through Hasbro pulse. That’s obscene. So I’m having to rethink collecting going forward, it’s just not smart when you look at where this economy is heading. I do buy gold silver and bitcoin though so I’m not totally wreckless with my spending.
Thanks for reminding me... To check on my bbts carts/preorders.. revaluate and cancel even more. The longer I wait, the easier it gets. On certain things.. I'm still hanging on for that x men beast figure...wow. It's not Entertainment Earth (ughh) Or Walmart.. So I'm confident it won't be canceled or never come out.
Just my 2 cents but modern toy collecting reminds me a lot of what happened to baseball card collecting in the early-mid 90’s. A pack of cards was 35-50 cents w bubble gum and for kids. Fun. When it was once affordable an easy for kids to collect , easy available , parents could support , then companies got greedy. It was expensive, prices slowly went up , too many exclusives , priced out kids and adults were the only collectors trying to turn a profit. It never recovered and what kids collect baseball cards now!? When we as adults stop buying theses lines caused they priced us out they may never recover. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t see any of these woke companies changing their strategy anytime soon.
What makes me happy is finding ARAH G.I. Joes and vehicles at my local comic/vintage toy shop where I don't pay Ebay taxes, fees and shipping and can bring stuff in for store credit. With so many people cutting back on collecting this year and myself not really into the Classified or anything above 3&3/4 scale it works for me...like finding 2 vintage Skystrikers's for $125 each and Joes and Cobras for about $20-$30 a piece complete.
I agree that many classic IPs have died in recent years and I have desire to collect them (🌬 Star Wars......) but as a new collector it's amazing time to pick up some stuff and save money on others......
Ive taken a less collect each wave, now im starting to scale back a lot on pre ordering figures from Classified this year. With each of the waves post retro Duke; Scarlett etc I ordered just retro BH from the most recent preorder wave I have very little from the ML, or BS lines anymore. Just some Mandalorians mainly from BS, I’m also collecting a few of the figures of the Neca and Mafex but not all, and selective Mondo MOTU stuff but I’m slowing on a lot of collecting. I have been in this about a year come August but I had a lot of catch up to do and even then I still didn’t get all the staple figures released in the prior years of classified etc
I would really like to get behind the Star Wars retro collection but can’t bring myself to do it because of the fake edge wear look, the oversized clunky blisters and cheap flimsy card backs with language warnings plastered all over the backside of the card. I would still like someone to answer this question. Who at Hasbro thinks the fake edge wear looks good? I’ve never heard anyone say it looks good in the collecting community. Maybe if they put more pride into this collection, it would sell better.
Well I think that collecting this year isn't going to be as fun as it probably was in the past because of inflation picking up again, but depending on where you live and what you collect it will sway back and forth between being fun and not enjoyable. Right now I pretty much just collect things from either the G1 transformer line or Star Wars. I mostly collect masterpiece, but if something isn't being made main line, I either buy third party, or a fan-made product. It's like my birthday gift to myself last year was that I machined from a blank Kyle Katarn's lightsaber both from dark forces and Jedi outcast because I haven't seen them in years. I couldn't buy them 20 years ago when I was going through college cuz I had bills to pay, but it's not something that I've seen floating around not much the last four or five years. Melting down the aluminum cans I got in the backyard, I just milled out the pieces that I wanted to make, and did an electronic install. My next step is doing his blaster. If they're not going to make it I'm going to make it myself. Next thing I'm going to do is the Y-wing in 3 3/4 scale. So it depends on how you look at it.
Wow, Mike. You collect quite a few lines. I stick to Transformers, GI Joe, and Macross. Problem is that I collect mainline and MP for TFs and the Macross stuff is expensive because they're Japanese premium releases that are scalped if you miss the preorder and that always happens for me as the window is very limited at times that are convenient for Japanese collectors mainly. With mainline TFs, I'm only focusing on figures I really want as space is a big factor now. With GI Joe, I'm passing on characters that are obscure or I have no connection with. Collecting is too expensive now and only getting worse.
Inflation+boring toys+hard to get action figures you want=savings I stopped collecting Transformers,GI joe Classified,Star Wars,Ghostbusters,TMNT,and Neca stuff. Masterverse and Origins hangs on the balance. Still into Super 7 Thundercats and Silverhawks. Although,no more preorders for me until stuff drops.
Hasbro has continued to let me down, 4 inch gi Joe's and marvel universe where awesome but 6 inch is all they make now, transformers get smaller and smaller, but prices keep going up.. now they don't even want to make toys at all now. After 35 years of collecting, I might be forced out by poor company decisions. Oh well toy companies don't need my money.
pulse hasnt been sending me emails for stuff like they used to, so I missed out of the Deadpool movie figure, the Cobra ferret and the eel ( but I ordered it on amazon) and even though I saw a notification on yoututbe about the marvel pulse live stream, you had to come back the next day and when I remembered at 3 pm everything I wanted was sold out. Pulse doesnt even have a feature to add to cart or give me a notification when something is back in stock. They want the artificial scarcity. 27 a figure x4 is over 100 dollars for 4 so yeah, missing stuff will make me give up sooner. I want a Zartan and Major Bludd, which I figure they will do a bludd retro, but after I get a few cobra la figures, I may call it quits. I got Helix because I liked her arm blades but everything was so soft and gummy when she came, i just put her away.
I have been collecting the Motu Origins since they came out and now have started to just get what I want or can get. Mattel Creations has made it hard with the last few. And i agree 15$ figure but then adding shipping and tax. Makes it hard to want to keep on. The. Superstars line is so hard to find anywhere.
Explain to me how either of these two control inflation? Companies all over are claiming record profits, it’s not the president, it’s companies doing this because they know they can.
My pulse sub ended 1 hour before the end of Omega Prime... I'm gunna just hold off and try to get my Joe fix through secondary stores as long as I can, and I'm not going to touch retro and the garbage frankenbash reuse nobody molds. Hasbro is really reaching into the bad years, having poor toy design injecting what they want and this is why I stopped collecting in the first place. They wanna be Vala, stop being Vala or I'd buy Vala.
Hasbro need to be a bit more thoughtful for it's transformers collectors with figure availability and reissue ones people missed out on. And as for star wars the end is in sight because who really cares about the Disney characters ? I think we've all seen the Rey admiral gender studies toy mountains
Folks! You ' Re living in The toys Heaven, in foreign countrys Like México, My place Is very very very difficult make a decent collection 'cause normally we Only get The half percent of characters, and sometimes The left-overs of a line, The Female G.I.Joes or The nobody buys With High prices, The big ones classics Like that Quick-kick can cost triple With The shipping AND taxes or With The expensive retailers, if i got that prices be super duper happy but With some luck make a fine gallery colection, wishing The Best For The tyridium community, 'til next opoortunity.🤟😉👍
Keep making over-sized and over-priced toys and i'll save more money from not buying them. If the buy-bug hits, there are a dozen thrift stores to satiate that hunger.
Hasbro ruined action figure collecting by re releasing everything toy biz did killing the value for anyone who collected it….. they do the same with their own products …. Collecting now is only for the love of it …. not love and value!!
Excellent pic of the star wars... A picture says a thousand words. Another good reason i'm cutting back collecting... The company's and her so called wokeness/bs. And then taking advantage of bidenomics (Which is absolutely awful whether people admit it or not) even more so... Jacking things up.
I'm not too worried about being overwhelmed one month with my preorders at showZ. They consist of XTB Omnibots Protectobots and Constructicons. Worst case maybe 3 would come due the same month but I doubt it. LOL. Not much left that I want that has not already been released a while ago. I've no real choice but to buy it on eBay at higher prices than when they were new. I'm not in a hurry. It's a lot easier when MP scale Transformers is all you collect. 😂
