This episode hits different when you find out that Roy Horn died from the pandemic last May. And then Siegfried died in January 2021, almost exactly a year after this video was posted

When donkey was on screen in this show, I felt like I was having a fever dream.

He wasn't "attacked" by the tiger. He fell during the show, and the tiger tried to pick him up. Except he did it as tigers pick up their young. By their necks. Which isn't quite safe for humans. So it wasn't an attack but an accident.

Father of the Pride was pretty good. I rented it from Netflix to get the directors' commentary - and they said the network kept marketing it to kids because "animation is for kids". So you get comments like "what kid is going to understand a joke about spooning with [well-known Vegas celebrity]?".

6:00 I can agree with that. I love how forgiving he was, despite almost losing his life. A lot of animals have instincts to attack, etc, and they should NOT be hurt or even killed for reacting.

The Simpsons (at the time) had writers that were transcendent. They carved their own way into American culture/humor, and pulled off episodes that I never could’ve imagined would still be referenced to this day. I legitimately think those were some of the greatest writers on planet Earth. When you are up against a trendsetter, like The Simpsons, you can’t focus on replication - you must be ahead or you will be destroyed.

i honestly like this show,,the idea of animals being mundane while humans do wacky things is funny to me, i almost kinda wish it didn't fail

18:44 Except Jeffrey Katzenberg's editing of the Black Cauldron was likely the single biggest contributor to its commercial failure. Seriously. The edits he made were poorly done, and failed to take into account the soundtrack, leading to large and noticeable skips in the music. They also removed several crucial parts, making the scenes around them make less sense. Probably the worst thing though, was that while no amount of editing could've taken away enough of the horror elements to truly make "normies" consider it family friendly, the editing did manage to remove just enough to eliminate the crowning moments of the horror elements which could've drawn in more of the horror crowd.

I literally laughed out loud when that kid said his mom took a nap with Tony the Tiger.

The characters look bland because they're scared to use color, it feels like. Every lit scene is the same white or soft yellow light, every cast shadow is the same gray that was hard to avoid at the time. Ambient light is really important in giving a scene color in the shadows but it feels like they don't use it as much as they could

Real shame this never got a 2nd season, i loved this show. At the time it was new and different, the humour was good to. Plus the fact lions are my favourite animal made me like it even more.

I think I read about this in Disney Adventure magazine as a kid! I remember that Daryl Sabara, who was Juni from Spy Kids, said that practicing his Gollum impression was the hard part.

Just want to say that Sigfreid and Roy also had an attempt to get a cartoon show off the ground in the 90s. "Sigfreid and Roy: Masters of the Impossible" I found it on VHS at a goodwill a while back. I've watched it four times and I still have no idea what the hell the show is about.

Art professor of mine who worked for DreamWorks mentioned he worked on this VERY briefly. And he hated it SO MUCH. He ended up going to his boss saying 'hey if something opens up on a different team, I will happily take it if you'll let me'. And luckily for him, something did and he got transfered to a different project.

Roy LOVED those tigers. When I was a child, there was a pay-per-view behind the scenes taping of a Siegfried and Roy performance that my mom let me stay up and watch with her (that was a big deal back in the 90's, kids. 🤣) And half of the show was just Roy making sure that he was providing the best life he possibly could for his cats. On and off stage. Even after his attack, and the show ended, he made sure that his cats would never want for anything.

They could have made the first episode about the accident, explaining that cats carry their young like that and the tiger intended to help the guy when he dragged him around and then make the series about the time before that.

We need to talk about that Tony the Tiger comment. 😂
