I had a chat with the SpeedQueen customer service team and I wanted to pass the information along to you. Apparently, there's been talk about making the bin on the front load larger, but unfortunately, nothing is in development yet. The representative I spoke to mentioned that it could take up to 10 years from today's date to develop a product like that, and they don't want to rush anything without proper testing and durability checks. So if you're thinking of getting one but are waiting for the bigger bin, the wait might be longer than you expect. In fact, it might be a good idea to go ahead and get one now instead of waiting for something that may not happen for years.

King size comforter fits in my Speed Queen TR5. The washer's agitator design methodology allows filling the washer's tub to the top and not damage fabrics. I constantly fill the tub up with towels. I don't see a need to have a large drum that would consume more water.

Years ago my wife and I had an old Kenmore washer that lasted us for years. When it finally died, we bought a Whirlpool neptune. That pile of junk lasted about 4 and a half years. It leaked and made screeching sounds when running. We got rid of that and bought the washer we have now. It’s a Maytag top loader with the electronic keypad. We didn’t know that Whirlpool bought out Maytag. We got it just before covid hit, now it’s broke down. Gonna cost a little over $900 to fix! Another piece of damned crap!!! I am sick and tired of shelling out good money for a washer from a company that used to make good products. This time I’m going to get the Speed Queen TC5. I figure if it only lasts 10 years I’m money ahead.

Meh. Bo5 of my SQ washers lasted under 2 years before one was deemed unrepairable, and the other had to be almost completely rebuilt. They’re no better, in fact probably worse. I just got a pair of Maytag (WP) front loaders and they are awesome. If you’re looking for something very good in terms of cleaning and reliability, I’d look into an LG front loader

2:19 - As far as "the king sized comforter issue", I just wrap my king sized comforter around the agitator, cram it in there, and mash the "HEAVY SOIL" button to give it some extra action. I've been doing it this way in my Speed Queen washer for 3 years now with zero problems. I realize this isn't the most efficient way to get a comforter perfectly clean, but it sure beats going to some sketchy laundry mat. To compensate, I just do it more often than I did with my previous two GE extra capacity washers {which both developed fatal computer board problems after about 5 years). After all, I paid extra to have a speed queen washer specifically so it would be tough enough to withstand some harsh treatment. ***But that's just me. 😎 I'm not saying everyone should do it this way***

@joseymour2574
@joseymour2574 5 месяцев назад
Yes, that works if you're careful. I used to do that with older machines with agitators BUT to avoid wear and stress on the motor AND your comforter (like the agitator rubbing repeatedly on the same spot) I'd use the gentle/delicate cycle, fill it to the top, top it off with buckets of water if necessary, only let it agitate for 5 min. Stop it and let it soak for 10 min, then open and rotate the blanket myself and punch it down, let it run for another few min, repeat, run, repeat, etc. Drain, do the same on rinse. I give it an extra spin cycle on 'spin only'. It may seem like a lot of work but saves on laundry mat costs and way easier than handwashing or wearing out the machine.

Computers are not inherently bad. I know it's a point of contention for a lot of people. But the alternative is electromechanical stuff, and moving parts wear out. Computers fail, too. Entropy will destroy everything. Anyway, my point is that if a computer is designed and programmed well, it will work for a long time. And they should be designed to be repairable, of course they often are not.

I really agree with your viewpoint on what the government has done to clothes washers. Great job! I'm not telling you anything new, but the TC5, with its more aggressive, independent-from-the-tub agitator, and its ability to, you know, fill the tub up entirely, is so much better at cleaning clothes and rinsing away the detergent than the weaker TR models with their moving-water-around-gently approach, using not enough water, to clean clothes. The government forced SQ into those TR models that theoretically use less water and energy . . . . . . until you have to run the load again to get them clean the detergent rinsed away. The TC5's only drawback is that it only uses cold water during the RINSE cycle. Of all SQ top loading washers, only the TR7 model can use warm water for the rinse cycle. But IMHO, that one advantage is not a good enough reason to purchase the TR7 rather than the TC5. The TC5 has: 1. No Lid Lock like the TRs, so you can open it after the wash starts 2. A 5-year parts and labor warranty 3. A 15-year warranty on the transmission 4. A lifetime warranty on both the inner and outer drums.

Honestly the size of a Speed Queen washer to I would guess is close to the old days ….. but what’s gotten larger are our beds and the need for King size comforters …. The government is not wrong the usage of water considering droughts is probably an issue ….now their remedy may not be ideal …. There are places that will repair the top computer board on that machine if it goes out for $50 to $75. This is probably less than the mechanical parts you will need to replace over time on a machine without the computer. The lower computer board is a motor controller, which reduces your electric bill. Without it you ARE paying more to run this machine. Some people just want to whine about things they don’t understand. That TC5 is an awesome machine and can last over 25 years.

Got our SQ TC5 and matching SQ dryer recently after our "American" brand Maytag drove us crazy with the violent jumping around on spin cycle. Plus, it took almost an hour on the shortest cycle and never really cleaned the clothing that well. This time, we paid way up for the SQ. So far, it's been amazing. It's all done in 30 minutes, has a REAL agitator, we can open it at any point and after shutting the lid, doesn't need to start over or reprogram the computer, either. So SQ invites me to "review" the purchase. In their advertisements, they proclaim that they are made in America-Wisconsin. I know that many of the other, so called "American" washers and dryers are actually made in China. In my review, I point that out...that Speed Queen is made in America, by Americans, providing American jobs instead of China.......Speed Queen censored it. When I questioned them, they say that it's a "3rd party" that "moderates" the reviews. Cowards...and hypocrites. They seem ok to shout: Made in America! but if someone mentions the actual OTHER country that many of them are made, well that's just got to be censored. At the end of the day, I also want to wash my own clothes in my own washing machine. I don't want to fight over washing machines and dryers at the laundromat. I went thru enough of that in the past about whose turn it is to go next. I don't want someone else's animal hair and gunk on my clothes. These machines are not sanitized between uses. I want a huge drum and to be able to also wash my queen sized comforters. I don't have a Speed Queen but I have an Electrolux front loader. It's so far so good. I'm also sick of government regulations. I'm willing to use and pay for a little bit more water to get cleaner clothes. The government think they are doing us a favor. Too many of us know how to circumvent the system and getting our washers to add more water anyway. They regulate shower heads to washing machines and everything else between. The government can be a freakin' curse at times. They need to mind their own business. This is why I'm for smaller government! They overstep too much!

I have a Speed Queen washer & dryer, bought in 2022..washer works great but there is a buzzing noise ( it’s a relay on the computer board on the left hand side of the drum ) that hums / buzzes when then dryer is totally off. The noise goes away when the power button is pressed. Warrenty changed the board but the new board does the same. I called head office, they said the noise is normal. I’ve never heard of any Appliance humming or buzzing when the thing is off. I would not recommend buying this dryer. After paying $1850.00 for the dryer I’m very disappointed. The only thing I am pleased is that the pair came with seven year parts and labour warranty . The only way to get rid of the buzzing noises to shut the breaker off. And With all the talk about saving energy and the planet, this dryer adds to my electric bill by using up power. Can you believe it?

Sorry, but you are mistaken in your assessment of the capacity of the SQ. Most all other brands don't fill the drum to capacity, in turn can't wash king sized comforters or use the space to its fullest. The SQ does fill completely which enables the unit to wash full loads including king comforters. You should know better and not make statements that are factually incorrect.

You shouldn't equate the government's regulations with the actual ability of the washer. Yes, there is the "ECO" mode, but I replaced my Bosch 500 vision series (which in all fairness, was bought in 2010 and lasted 13 years) with this washer and dryer combo and it is just like being at many of the hotels I have to live in on the road - it does one thing and does it really well. Just touch the overfill button and it's like a washer out of the 70's/80's. I can easily see this washer and dryer lasting longer than I will at this point and I'm 52.

I get the capacity issue but am thorougly confused as to why you believe a computer represents an issue. One would be hard pressed to find an electric can-opener that doesn't have a computer on board. I am more concerned that it doesn't include wifi connectivity which would allow for over-air updates as operational bugs are addressed and corrected.

Little odd the unit/brand chosen to do a mini rant about government-control-eco-nonsense was the Speed Queen lineup. Did a lot of research before getting mine and they seem to be a big proponent of bringing back the days when a washer and dryer would literally last 20+ years. That doesn't merit a bash simply because they have an eco setting in my opinion.

It's quite obvious when you have a washer with a circuit board and when you have one with a clockwork timer. The feel is totally different. Not really any clicks there are on a PCB(printed circuit board) operated machine and the dials don't move by themselves. Totally the opposite with clockwork timers. Miele were the Speed Queen of washing machines once and as far back as the late 80's they were using circuit boards. But back then they didn't make the boards cheaply, Miele made NOTHING cheaply. There are many a Miele's from the 90's and earlier that function just like they do when they were new...

I guess he and other washer repairmen agree that the more computerized a washer is, the more it turns to crap with ongoing problems after another. Often times just keeping it simple without all of the bells and whistles is far better. My simple second hand washer lasted me for more than 10 years. I got an GE with all of the bells and whistles and it barely lasted 4 years. I had a simple second hand refrigerator that lasted more than 10 years. I gave it away and purchased a side by side LG refrigerator and the panel blew within 3 months. Now 4 years later it's tossed in the trash.

Not a fan of your labeling the "government" as some boogeyman. It really gets old and lowers the quality of an otherwise informative video. If resources were unlimited, I'd agree with you, but they're not. Collectively, we have to push in better, more conservation-minded directions. The open market seldom does anything for the betterment of the whole until all the money has been wrung from it and by that time it just might be too late. Rather than looking at the government as some sort of adversary, how about looking at it as a collaborative part of our system, helping to bring us all together. If you don't like the job they're doing, then do some more research and vote for those people entering office who will bring us all together in more efficient ways. As with everything, there is the good and the bad.
