Putting together my chest rig this morning and did a quit RU-vid search for some ideas of gear I should integrate. Didn’t find anything helpful. This video popped up on my suggested this evening and it’s exactly what I was looking for. Really appreciate it
I use airsoft as a means to test my gear loadout primarily. Im ex-infantry and now in my mid forties, and realise i wont be going on any raids any time soon. However, if the SHTF i want a rig that can be worn under my jacket or with my 80ltr pack on.
Iv Garmin 801 and iv found that u strap any of them too your arm u lose footage or meters In Distance from. the way you're arms r swinging. If u keep it stationery on your chest rig or plate carrier it keeps more accurate measurements and a better slug Trail
I modified a sadf pattern 83 chestrig. I have a ucp canteen pouch molled on my left with medical and a small blackhawk pouch with binoculars on my right. I carry a water bottle and some simple admin things.
Redundancy is great, but there comes a point where redundancy is overkill and now you're carrying too much shit. All that weight adds up and takes up space that could otherwise by used for better organization or for something more important.
I have a difficult time taking advice from a site that advertises the RAT non-tourniquet, one of the two “tourniquets” with more scientific data to support not using it for life-threatening extremity hemorrhage than the data that supports its use.
You can accept some advice and reject other parts. You still have to use logical reasoning to determine the validity of information regardless of your level of knowledge in relation to the information presenter.
Bryan talks as if he "needs" to use this rig frequently. Admittedly, I've got my Haley Strategic modular rig loaded with my toys too, but my "need" for this is embarassingly never. I see you yawning, Rob.
@Mikael I think his point is to illustrate that for a civilian a chest rig's utility is limited. You're infinitely more likely to use your gun to defend yourself in your home or while out and about while wearing your street clothes than you are while wearing any kit. I own a chest-right...merely to serve as administrative training tool while taking courses. Even in a worse case, shit-hit-the-fan, L.A. Riots situation I cannot imagine need more than a rifle w/ two mags jungled up and a third in my back pocket. The Korean store owners in '92 successfully defended their turf with minimal gear.
Ok, first spending $400 bucks on just the chest rig itself is ridiculously stupid in my opinion ! I have plate carriers that cost less. That said, my chest rigs are Condor ! They have several styles, work well and have not failed me yet. Of course I’m not in the reserves, a militia or an LEO. Mostly I use mine for training, combat carbine courses , and privet range use, they’ve held up well with no issues at for several years now. Look , there are different strokes for lots of folks, in my thinking one shouldn’t have to mortgage there house, go in debt with there CC for items that unless your a professional or use your gear everyday. Please buy what you want it’s your money, after all , if your like most of us working guys, your gear sits in a closet or go box 50% of the time .
Pace count beads from my experience are completely useless. You "pace" changes with terrain. Walking up a hill or some thick Woods, swamp, rocks etc. Just stick with a laminated map ,compass with protractor. GPS if it's your budget. You should be able to terrain associate if your unsure how far you have travelled.
@MikaelGPS isnt reliable thats why I have always stuck with Terrain association. Never really had an instance where it didnt help out. I pace count but never used the ANAL BEADS. I would look at the map, determine what path seems appropriate, anticipate seeing those land features ahead or knowing what should be coming up, measure the distance, and then know your pace and how long it takes you to walk X amount of distance, Add or subtract a few mins based on the terrain. You should always have a watch. The only instance I would use pace count beads is when your slowly moving towards an objective area and their are many haults in your march or your in the desert or some large barren land.
@Mikael How is this talking in circles. This is a civilian aimed rig. I dont see beads being essential equipment needed to navigate land.... never was this a standard not even in Ranger school. For being a high speed operator your neither humble or offering any insight.
