Wool, and mixed wool clothes, even when wet they will keep you warm.

You can dry cotton easier by a fire then synthetic. I’d take cotton ever synthetic

@@ETsBees Cotton absorbs water, and tons of it, so it gets trapped in the fibers and takes a long time to dry. Sure, you can dry it by a fire, but depending on the item you basically *have* to dry it by a fire if you want to wear it again anytime soon. If for some reason you can't make a fire or you can but it's still raining on your clothes while you're trying to dry them, you are screwed. A synthetic material like polyester is naturally hydrophobic and any water that penetrates it only gets trapped between the fibers, so it absorbs much less, weighs much less when it's wet and dries much faster than cotton even in the absence of a fire. Nylon is not hydrophobic and thus inferior to polyester, but is still markedly better than cotton. Personally, I wear cotton on the trail all the time, but when it comes to dealing with moisture synthetic materials are vastly superior.

@@Im_With_Stupid yeah synthetics have their place. A light poncho on top of them is good with rain Cotton under it.

Polyester is the preferred choice as it's naturally hydrophobic. Nylon is not and will absorb water, even when treated, but is still a better choice than cotton. With that said, cotton is not a bad choice on the whole. Heavy weight cotton is a bad choice, but if you can find some very light cotton shorts and shirts, preferably ones with ventilation, go for it. They might not dry as fast, but they'll dry fast enough and they won't weigh a ton while they're wet.
