This video shows the subtle differences between most polishers available on the market today. Which one is for you? This video should help you decide. The Dual Action polisher, uses a double motion for polishing. Not only does the backing plate spin in a circular motion around its axle, it has an off-center connection that makes the backing plates “shake”. This creates very small circular motions while rotating on its axle. This motion resembles the motion many people make when they are polishing by hand. When polishing, or applying wax, by hand, most people make small circular motions with their hand while also moving from left to right, forwards or backwards. If you would change ‘left to right’ into ‘a circular’ motion, you would basically make the same motion as the Dual Action polisher.

Weekend detailer, side-hustler here. I have been using the HELL out of my Griot's G9 since they debuted. The 9mm throw with 1000W gives me all the correction power I need. With a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads, I have corrected some really nasty paint when using the right pads and compounds. My old trusty PC 7424XP is now my dedicated 3" machine. I highly, highly recommend the G9 for any new detailers out there. 1000W and a lifetime warranty from a great company with awesome customer service. Why ask why? Get one!

As an at-home, garage/hobby guy, this was very interesting. I recently bought the G9 and I've been pleasantly surprised. I gave up on the 10" buffer I had in the '90's and was just doing things by hand. What a world of difference in today's technology. I even got a little practice in over the weekend by polishing the hood on the lawn tractor! Hahaha. That Husqvarna orange has never looked so good. Thank you for all of these in depth reviews with outstanding detail, data, & results.

That is a great video for beginners like me ! I do have a rotary and a 8 mm throw DA and I’m still learning to use them. Hopefully, this spring I will do some more correction or polishing to be comfortable with them. Again Brian, thanks to take time for us !

It's also worth mentioning, with a rotary and its forced rotation you have the option to work on glass as well which isn't recommended with DA's.

I’m begginer and my first machine was 8mm DA , 2 weeks ago I bought a rotary and I already love it. Rotary leaves better finish in my opinion, and the job is done in seconds. I find out that "One Step” with rotary is little bit more problematic because you have to find the balance between good cutting and making no holograms, but it is doable.I will just practice more and won’t give up, it is worth of it. Great video as always!

849 rotary all the way! 3M perfect- It lll wool pad. Foam for finishing. I use the smaller da tools in tight places sometimes and the orbital for application of wax/sealants when backed up. Great video!

Useful video thanks Brian. The Infared thermometer normally measures a cone area from the sensor so the further away it is from the surface the larger the area it measures. The guiding laser dot can be a distraction to remembering that.

Outstanding video which could easily lead to a dozen more. I’m now thinking about how much more heat does a microfiber or wool pad generate compared to the yellow pad used today. Do more abrasive compounds generate more heat compared to polishes. The biggest wow factor for me was the heat difference between the 8mm and 15 mm. Thank you for making us think more about maintaining the clear coat or paint.

Cool vid B.the glass demo was a great idea.i did start with a 8mm upon your advice 2 yrs ago .but looking to upgrade now.my wrists are ok but finger joints...not bad but not great.smoothest da recomendation ,i understand i,m going to get beat up no matter what.not a pro.is a 15mm the way to go,polishing mostly,occasional spot corrections,no whole vehicle compounding going on but a Ram is not a mazda.more acreage.

Nice video Brian. I have been detailing for a bit over a year. Detailing as in paint correction. I have a 150mm 15mm throw DA polisher but want to get a 125mm with a 21mm throw, a 80mm polisher, a forced rotation and a nano polisher. Might even buy another 150mm with a 21mm throw as my polisher has seen better days. I dont like rotary's. I was in fact surprised you saying you use a rotary for finnishing.

Another factor is weight. The Griots Garage polisher is much lighter and less fatiguing than my Makita P6000. Both do a great job but I do like that the Makita gives you the option between forced and non forced rotation.

As always great information to beginners just starting out. My experience is that I can keep the panel cooler whit a rotary then whit I DA. I always use rotary for cutting and DA 15mm for finishing, 8mm I use for laying down sealens. That's works for me. Thanks Brian for a great video. I have a question, I have had several customers asking me about a product called Glare polish. Its supposed to have something called glasplexin in it that binding to the paint. Have you any experience whit that product?

My thoughts- unless you are polishing frequently, you really dont need anything more than an entry level polisher. My Maxshine M8 is perfect for me with two cars to detail and I only polish every 12-18 months to try to preserve clear coat. Plus I keep my cars in good shape and never go through car washes so love marks, swirls, etc are minimal. That said, great video as your explanation on each gives people the information to decide for themselves what will work best.

I am debating between the Maxshine M8s V2 and the Griot's G9. I'm a beginner and will only be polishing all my cars at home or perhaps a few relatives for fun. Has your Maxshine lasted well?

@@chrisginoc yep, three years in and no issues. When I got it I think it was like 90 bucks. Not sure what they cost these days....honestly you can't go wrong with either. Griots is solid too.

I would have liked to have seen a paint depth measurement to see how much was removed. I have a Griots model from about 5 years ago with the adjustable handle and I dropped it last job. I think I bent the shaft so may be new model time. Thank you for the demo.

Not sure what to take away from this video. Different manufacturers, different wattages, different RPMS, unknown pads. I was surprised at the differences in heat build-up between polishers, I would have otherwise guessed only a few degrees difference.

I watched a video last night and you mentioned that the switch in some polishers are from Hont- have you needed to replace any speed controls? I have a polisher that has a control which looks the same as in the Drill Master, but the parts aren't available from Harbor Freight. I checked with a multi-meter and the pot is open until it hits the detent. Do you have a link? I saw switches but when I searched for speed control, it had nothing. Thanks

Rotary machine is most Universal, use to all, 125mm pad, 80mm, 50, 30. Have Zero vibration during work. I like it use.

rotary at full speed and apply heavy pressure i had burn the paint in under 10 second staying at the same spot.. DA will never burn the paint even if i stayed at the same spot for more than 60 second.

Just a small correction. In your video you called the first polisher the G9. Isn’t that the GG6 6” polisher? The G9 has a 9mm throw and has a similar design as their G21.

HI Brian - Do you have any issue with using a polisher with spray products such as TW SealnShine, P&S Bead Maker, or TacSystme Shinee Wax? I'm aware it's not the common method of using microfiber towers and elbow grease but I'm thinking at the lowest speed of any type (whether it's dual action or not, corded or cordless) it probably isn't an issue. I'm not thinking of the same slow methodical actions as when using a compound or polish but more of a quick 1-2-3 pass just to save fatigue and time from using microfiber towels. What are your thoughts please? Thanks Brian
