👍I learned something again about this new video. Thank you Mr. Santi, for me you are like an elder brother who always give good advices. My japanese guy friend were surprised when I learned about Tatemae and Honne... I think he's happy because I'm trying to be aware about Japanese culture. We have certain time replying on each other messages everyday, it's like a 'scheduled messages' so I know the time when shall I read his messages or if he already sent messages. (don't worry he's still a bachelor because I confirm it when I called him during Sat and Sun) I guess that's what we do everyday for almost a year now... I hope he won't be able to read this😂. I admire him just like you because aside him being a teacher in Tokyo, He gives me advices especially when I'm confused.He gives me some good Japanese novel books too(translated). That about not pushing Japanese men to spill everything and being considerate is so true. It's something I had to learn myself when I'm with my crush. Santi is right, you can be yourself, don't take me wrong, I couldn't be myself with anyone as much as I can be with my crush, but the cultural difference is a thing that can be worked on if both people are willing to. At the same time it complements my different personality and teaches me to be more empathetic which i always struggled with but I too think is important.

I'm lucky. As a Japanese man who was born and grew up in a Japanese-American community in the woods in California I can speak spotless English and have in my past done very well for myself in places like the UK when dating. My Japanese? Yeah I don't really get to use it everyday so its tough for me to relearn it. But I am trying. What I think it is for Japanese born boys is that they want to blend in, but don't know how. While Japanese-Americans or wherever celebrate our uniqueness. When I am in Japan, Japanese women simply cannot wrap their heads around my refusal to blend in. I have me own style. And not to mention I have no fear of telling people to F-off when necessary.

Yes, being yourself and being flexible are the best things that a foreign woman can do when dating a typical Japanese guy. Language barriers and culture must be considered too in dating Japanese men.

Exactly! You are right,Japanese men who went abroad are different from those who are just in Japan.I am lucky,my Japanese husband is very well travelled and educated abroad.

The mystery has been solved! 😄😄😄 On a serious note, i think it'd be better to risk it and ask the person if their ok when you see signs of them probably going through something rather than ignore it, and the situation escalates. But you have to be very careful about it though that you do not come across as badgering. Just from time to time drop a " u ok?". Applies to bf, gf, friends and families, colleagues and boss. Personally, what i do is i surprise them with coffee randomly 😄 there are those kind of people who want to open up but just don't know how to start...give them a mug of coffee and just sit with them (preferrably not facing them)...and they might slowly open up. Or not! But they'd feel less alone in their own heads knowing someone's there who knows the troubles in their heads

Hello Santi san! You mentioned about your language class, I wonder what really goes through a Japanese person’s mind when they say 日本語上手ですね. I personally think it’s just tatemae. At first I was happy but realized that this is just a way of them being polite bec you are trying to speak their languange. Im currently living in Tokyo and honestly this is how I measure that Im definitely not good or near enough rather than as a compliment. It’s sad and disheartening to hear.
