My Japanese boyfriend and I got together after he went back to Japan. He was an exchange student for my cousins family and I. I cooked once when he was here but he knows I hate cooking but he LOVES cooking and I love his food. And I clean my room 2-3 times a month while when on video call with my boyfriend I see his room is a huge mess and when I say that I will go to Japan just to clean his room he is always like “Nooo, my room is fine” and I’m like “BOY YOUR ROOM IS A MESS!!!” But my boyfriend is kinda “Americanized” somehow because he is SHAMELESS AF and he is obsessed with American culture and stuff but he’s laid back and an open person. You’re right he doesn’t say what he’s thinking unless I ask, then it takes forever for him to actually tell me. But he also has his own insecurities like me so it’s kinda a mutual understanding when it takes us forever to tell each other things due to our insecurities....

Take note on high context vs low context culture. "low-context culture as a culture that communicates information in a direct manner that relies mainly on words. Low-context cultures do not rely on contextual elements (i.e., the speaker's tone of voice or body language) to communicate information. They take a more direct and explicit approach. I really appreciate you talking about such delicate issues. You've made some interesting points. Yet, as you've mentioned at the beginning, one can't generalize and take it as a norm. I have met many Japanese guys and girls, that don't fit in the "stereotypes" attributed to them. I also know by my own experience as a citizen with double, almost multiple nationalities, that lived in many countries, that people are different, independent of their origins. I hate stereotypes. I am not like any of the people living in The Netherlands, Brazil, Denmark, etc. I laugh when people assume that others with the same nationality, have the same approach to life as I do. My culture or cultures do not define who I am. We humans are much more than that. Every single human is unique and that is beautiful!

After watching your video, I can see why it’s said that it’s difficult to date a Japanese guy. I have no experience in it at all but i can personally see myself with one given that i really love to learn and understand people and their culture. I’m also an introvert and an HSP in which I notice a lot of subtleties in human interactions having to do with tone of voice etc and I’m also affected by that so I can kind of get a glimpse at how that must be for Japanese. I’m laughing because i can frankly see myself with one by simply looking at some similarities, but my independent and equality mindset is one where there could be issues given the Japanese hierarchical system

Hi... I can relate.. I've been dating my japanese bf now for 7 years it was so hard for the past 3 years but now were getting better. What you have mentioned were all correct hhaahha... I just love my bf so much and he might not be telling me he loves me verbally but he's doing something that makes me happy like we travel together since I love traveling too. I feel sometimes he's so cold and replies my message once in a blue moon but I understand ... Btw I'm Filipina... Love your video.

Dating foreigners with different languages has its own challenges. But especially when it comes to dating Japanese guys who are used to eating all those yummy food, it takes extra Japanese cooking skills to make them fall for you maybe. (said by some random Japanese guy)

I can't cook Japanese food but I can cook Mexican food very well. The thing is my culture of Mexico and Japanese culture always had cultural ties for several hundred years. Both of our cultures are collectivist and that family is our biggest and important focus. Because Mexico is so patriarchal but the expectation is the same that women should stay home, know how to cook and clean and raise kids. 🙄

People who say this it's a sign that they didn't travel that much and taste local foods of other countries with all my respect to japanese food and I appreciate it myself but this is an objective opinion and I noticed that so much in japanese people toward their food.

objectively by variety, depth, sophistication of Japanese gastronomy is the best. Travel more, you won't find any more expensive foods using meat and fish than Japanese. so are varieties of daily food.

Actually, I enjoy cooking. It’s a favorite hobby but, it can be tiring to cook everyday. So, I cook everyday. But, I want to find someone who can help me with chores equally in an every other day pattern like we have our own schedule. Then, no one would have to fight about it and we do our own laundry incase if someone else does it, we won’t have to worry about it getting misplaced and there’s another stupid fight.

The problem is with texting Japanese men. I feel they don’t have an interest in me most of the time. How can I tell they are interested by text? He said he only texts when it’s necessary in a way. It really hurt but, then he started to try talking with me actually. But, he seems to hate it when I ask how his day was because there’s nothing special to say.

That’s how it is in Mexican Culture. Food is VERY important. The women must always have the house clean and have everything perfect for the man. And the man holds all the power. The difference is that when dating. The Mexican men are very Romantic and try to impress the girl. But after they are married the man is fully in charge. He has his own wallet and only gives money to wife to but groceries. I think Mexican women are a bit more submissive.

I agree, I’m Mexican and this is exactly what happens in my house with my dad. The thing about dating Mexican men is that i personally would prefer a Japanese since they’re not too invasive in affection and loudness. As an introvert a quiet person is better since it allows me to have more time to get to know a person and let things flow naturally

I have a japanese boyfriend, we've been dating for almost 5 months. At first 3 months we're sweet, he never forget to chat me. Especially when he came here last August , he's so sweet and clingy. But on our 4 months of dating he started to act so cold and distant. Everything change. I feel so unwanted till now. I don't know what to do. It hurts so bad that we can't talk the way we used to. Up until now, he's still distant to me, there's no more i miss you and i love you like he always say before. 🥺 He's only chatting me every after 2-3 days or even after a week. I also stopped chatting him everyday because he wants us to distance a lil bit. This is torture for me. I missed him but I guess he stops caring so I don't know if I should stay or end this. 🥺🥺 but when I asked him if he still wants to continue the relationship he don't even answer and changing the topic 😭😭

If I was you I would end the relationship and find someone who will treat you the way you're supposed to be treated. It's hard but you don't deserve that treatment and the harsh truth is when you love someone you will want to show it which he clearly isn't. Him changing the subject when asking if he wants to still be in a relationship with you is a big red flag, so I would do yourself a mental favour and break up with him because you deserve better. And yes! you will get over him, trust me!

I'm sorry to hear that. Japanese guys never say NO. So It's better for you to leave that relationship. Something similar happened to me( but he was a friend). Japanese guy tend to groundless dissapear and they don't even say a damn goodbye. Don't let him make you down. Confront the problem! ( Think carefully "He never ask you to stay" Did he?)

My boyfriend is Japanese and we have more of a partnership when it comes to our relationship. We both cook, clean, and do a lot of planning. We speak both Japanese and English, but the only thing we expect from each other is kindness and respect ❤
