In todays video, we restore the finish on this 1977 Triumph Spitfire. All steps will be covered in this episode. The Triumph Spitfire is a British front-engined, rear-wheel drive, two-passenger convertible introduced at the London Motor Show in 1962[4] and manufactured between 1962-1980. Styled for Standard-Triumph in 1957 by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, the Spitfire was manufactured for the duration of its production at the Standard-Triumph Canley works - and evolved over a series of five production iterations, with a approximately 315,000 manufactured over 18 years.
Developed on a shortened variant of the Triumph Herald saloon/sedan's chassis, the Spitfire shared the Herald's running gear and Standard SC engine. The design used body-on-frame construction, augmented by structural components within the bodywork and rear trailing arms attached to the body rather than the chassis. A manually deployable top, substantially improved on newer models, provided weather protection and a bespoke hard-top was available as a factory option.
Popular in street and rally racing, Spitfires won numerous SCCA National Sports Car Championships in F and G Production classes; won its class at the 1964 Tour de France rally, coming in second overall, and won the 1964 Geneva Rally. In 1965, a Spitfire won its class in the Alpine Rally.
The Spitfire nameplate refers to the World War II fighter plane of the same name. Assembled at Canley in August 1980 shortly before the factory closed, the last Spitfire was an Inca Yellow UK-model including the factory hardtop and overdrive options. Never sold to the public, it remains on display at the British Motor Museum.

I’m not a brown fan, but that’s a beautiful brown, really cool reflection shades. I am however a huge fan of single stage. So enjoyable and responsive to work with, and as long as pair your combos right it cuts well and finishing is a breeze. I am obsessive about residue and working clean, so the extra residue doesn’t change my normal pad cleaning process. Thanks, B!

I'm glad you did this video, I have a client that has one of these and multiple other cars of this vintage that all need to be detailed but I haven't offered to do it because I'm not sure what's the best way to do it safely. So far the most I do for him is just wash them with a pH neutral wash and wax. Now I know about single stage paint from this video I now know where to look for more information. Thanks mate.

Great video with good tips and pointers. I recently completed a Triumph TR6 using a uro fibre 50/50 with Scholl Concepts S20 Black and coated it with 303 Graphene. It came up really well but probably use a wax in future. Classic cars are so different to work on. 😍

Looks great. A little off topic... I was looking into a Torq 22D polisher and couldn't quite pull the trigger because Chemical Guys couldn't even tell me where to buy or get replacement brushes or parts. What? That was a huge turnoff for me when going to buy a pricy polisher, it's not like that polisher is only $35.00 to 50.00 and who cares... Where do you find or get parts/brushes for all your your Torq polishers? Must be just a standard size brush set right? That polisher is well over $300.00 so I was kind-of shocked with the answer I got from CG's. Thank you.

Do you use a panel wipe between the correction and acrylic process? And what panel wipe do you use? I've had issues with some single stage paints where it seems like the panel wipe (not IPA) seems to dry out the paint.

@PimpJogi

Looks gorgeous. One question though: As you've used quite an aggressive combination, wouldnt it have made sense to make a second pass with a finishing polish like the M3.02 to get an even better finish and get rid of any haze?
@apexdetail85
@apexdetail85 2 года назад
stage is rather hard. Not much of a haze is left behind. The acrylic glaze would have been the next step either way.

I wasn't aware Triumph even made them in left-hand drive! Ah that brown - the colour of every British man's corduroy trousers back in the 70's. Foul! 🤣 One thing I've been meaning to ask though - have you fallen out with the Eurofiber 50/50 pads? Rarely see you use them these days. In the past I would have expected you to stay with the F6 and switch up to the euro fiber pad on something like this!
