The thing with Mick's case is that him being paired with Nikita in his first season didn't give us a real image of how good he actually was. With the arrival of KMag, he seems to be suddenly overmatched and that makes him look really bad out of the blue.

They completely destroyed his self esteem by constantly telling him he is crashing too much and how expensive it is. Brazil is a good example, he just didn't feel secure enough to really push under wet conditions. A driver who is afraid of going to the limits can't be fast. In the last few races he seemed to be faster than KMag, at least during the race. And don't forget how often they fucked up his strategy and pit stops. @Moonshine1147
@Moonshine1147 Год назад
@@SD-mi2vc Wtf did you expect? For Mick to win races in that shitbox of a car, in order to "honour" his fathers name? Even a Hamilton or a Verstappen would not have been able to do that, if they were sitting in a HAAS! ▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎ Either way, HAAS were only somewhat "okay" at the beginning of the season and gradually lost performance in comparison to all the other teams. HAAS then, over the whole season, did only one single major update. HAAS eventually lost massive ground in performance after the first third of the season and did not recover at all, even stating that they would rather focus on the 2023 season instead. In the last 2 thirds of the season HAAS were no longer competitive anymore and couldn't "easily" score points any longer. Despite of that fact, Mick still managed to become better and consistently outperfomed Kevin in these 2 last thirds of the season without any major incidents or crashes, whilst gradually improving more and more over time. HAAS also fucked over Micks potential chances of scoring points by bad strategy calls and or terrible pitstops multiple times throughout the entire season, and in Singapore Russell just completely ended Micks charge to the front. On the other hand we have Kevin, who was on pace only in the first third of the season (where the car was somewhat competitive), and then fucked himself over with his stupid overaggressive driving (and his multiple unnecessary first lap incidents), which basically cost the team a lot of good potential race positions or points. It was visibly obvious that HAAS wanted to get rid of Mick, and that Mick was only in the team because of Ferrari. We don't have the full picture of why this all happened as it did (maybe some personal issues, or some other type of unknown issue that hasn't been disclosed), but any sensible team with common sense and the ability to see reality would have sticked with Mick and would given him at the very least a 1 year contract extention for the 2023 season! ▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎ Regardless of all of that, Mick made a mistake when joining HAAS, as he should have been rather at Alfa Romeo instead of HAAS in the first place, but apparently back then Ferrari had a contract clause with Giovinazzi that prevented that possibility. Thus many believed that Mick would have been promoted to Alfa Romeo for the 2022 season, but that team chose money over talent, as they had to pay a lot in order to get Bottas onboard, and needed some extra $€£ back through allowing Zhou to get a seat in F1 and bring in a huge chunk. Still, the longterm game of HAAS is plain stupid. What do they actually wish to accomplish by signing a "old" 35 year old driver, that was mediocre at best, and hasn't been in F1 for 3 whole years, and who will very likely be quite costly in terms of wages? So what is the longterm game of HAAS? In comparison to Nico, Mick had much more potential, which he proved in the 2 later thirds of the 2022 season, where he made solid progress and beat Kevin consistently; Mick also showcased this quality throughout his entire career, from the juniors all the way up to F1, that with time he only gets better and better! Funnily enough, HAAS apparently were also in talks with Ricciardo, a driver whose contract and wage would have been even bigger than that of Kevin and Hülkenberg and Mick combined, where did HAAS plan to get the money from to pay for Ricciardo?! But as ridiculous as all this is, this is not really surprising: HAAS are and always have been a stupid team to begin with. Their Rich Energy deal back in 2019, and the fact that they signed fucking Mazespin back in 2021, are evidence of that... HAAS are totally inept and painfully terrible in making the right decisions. People always make fun of Ferrari, but god damn... look at HAAS, they are a bunch of clowns as well (who like to shoot themselves in the foot for fun)!!!
@BlackDiamondYoutub

well gunther also summed this up nicely. why should haas have to be patient and develop mick when they can find a suitable replacement that will be 1. up to speed and 2. not crash. you really have to think from haas's perspective. why spend all that extra money on repairs when the budget is already extremely tight and you can simply find a driver who can do mick's job better?

Both Ferrari & Mercedes offered him a spot in their driver academy when he was in F3. He chose Ferrari which I think he regrets today. Not only because he got dropped but because Ferrari as a team is a complete mess at the moment. They just don’t have the complete package to fight with RB & Merc in the long run. Now, he may end up as a 3rd driver for Merc and maybe a Williams seat in a year or two.

And it took Nyck de Vries, the next poster child in that academy after Russell _three_ years after his title to get a seat in... the junior team of their main rivals, Red Bull. And even that was thanks to a lucky reserve role drop in at Monza. So I don't think he made the wrong choice at all, he got a seat in F1 immediately after his title win. That's what the point of an academy should be, not to let you rot on the sidelines for years (looking at you Alpine) but to get you a seat. The rest is up to you to prove yourself. Mick reminds me of Stoffel, he was a good promising driver as well that realistically could have been given a third season in the team, but team politics screwed him over and he wasn't as good as his senior teammate when it really mattered. The thing is though, the only drivers who get dropped by their teams are the ones that are not good enough. Mick got a fair shot and just didn't capitalize on it. The alternative was to never be given a shot at F1 to begin with like Illott and Schwartzman. I think he chose well.

See ther Merc academy: Ocon dropped for 1 year, GR needed 3 years to wait in a Williams (which was as bad as Haas in first year, and worse than Haas from season 2). And George is far ahead Mick. The Mercedes is full, no place for MS, Aston got Stroll and a big name, they don't need Mick. He can go to Williams, but remember, they even picked Logan without a license before Mick. And the Ferrari academy dropped him too. Mick's qualification pace is one of the worst in F1 roster (with Stroll and Latifi), and he can't really manage tyres too. He is good in sprints, that's all.

Mick good credentials and talent aren't enough to a team with a limited budget. They need to take advantage of every buck expended, and that includes the drivers. Also, Mick was responsible of a couple of crashes (some were big, some not) in this 2 years, which also were costly for the team and, when you are in a dire strait, you need to reduce crashes at its minimum. I think replace Mick is a good decision.

I thought Mick had a few good races this year. I understand as part of financially it makes sense to find Hulkenburg, but Mick comes with big potential of not just performance, but also, fans, etc. Perhaps there could have been some arrangement, if you crash, you pay. Mick has plenty of financial support, but once you're out of the line up, it's hard to get back in. I was one of those who really wanted it to work out for him, but he's never had a decent car. Mick's season wasn't worse than say Yuki or Zhou. At least not by much. The thing is that Haas is not an ideal team for a rookie to grow into, that's probablya fail on the Ferrari Driver Academy as they should've probably fight for a more suitable seat for him, such as Alfa Romeo. If you see Mick's performances on the second half of the season, he actually perfomed better overall between Magnussen and him. Kevin did get more points at the end and he did get that pole on Brazil. But thegeneral performance actually ahd Mick finishing ahead of him. We do have to consider that Kevin had all the confidence on having a seat next year and, generally, the better strategy at the end of the day. To be honest I'm sure Mick could've gotten like a P4 or the same pole that KMag did and Haas would've still changed him, but that's because the philosophy on the team is one of survival, not development and looking into the future. Also the relationship between driver-team was probably already broken beyond repair, not saying Mick or Guenther are at fault, but probably they just couldn't function 100% well now, also the pressure of havinbg the Schumacher name close. I'm hoping Mick can get the Mercedes reserve driver because I believe he has shown enough to prove that he can become a solid driver and maybe even something else. For now his best bet is to point at the Williams or Sauber (soon to be Audi) seat. We'll see. For now Mick has a lot of things to prove in order to get back. And Guenther has a lot to prove, especially now that he has the lineup he wanted, if the environment is just the same then probably we should start to also look at the head of the team instead of just the drivers.

That's the point of F1. Haas could've brought another driver In f1 now granted mick was a good driver he was still a liability for haas. That's just F1, you either perform or not. Similar thing happened to nick and alpha tauri. You need to be the best in f1, he may have beat people in f2 and f3 but when you reach f1 you are competing with people who are much more skilled and better at handling pressure. He still needs work which is why according to me he will join in 2025 at the most. Also I think haas would've never signed him if he wasnt coming in with any sponsors. The mere fact that he got sponsors was the reason haas had him. He kind of bought his way into an f1 seat which is always a bad strategy. You need to let the team select the driver if you buy yourself into a seat even indirectly you'll end up being used and thrown out of the sport.

Haas. Haas is what went wrong. The fact that Guenther Steiner still has his job is the bigger problem - they claim that this year they have Moneygram to back them up so they can reach the cost cap and just needed somebody "consistent"; if there's no progress and they still keep Guenther, then that becomes a problem. Sure, one can talk about how Guenther made all these sponsorship deals to keep Haas afloat but that doesn't mean anything in Formula 1. We will see next year how good of a team Haas actually is or whether it's just some pipe dream.

One thing I think most people forgotten about, is that if Mick performs like a top driver, he will be much more likely to move to a bigger team himself rather than staying in Haas. So in Haas's perspective, there's no such thing as Mick being a long term investment because they, as a team, is simply still too small for any of that future talk. It's the same with any other junior drivers as well, Haas would rather go for a safe option like Nico, and I bet Nico is probably quite cheap to hire for the amount of experience he has.

Sadly for Mick, if his "entourage" doesn't change, no team is going to willingly take him on now. It's one thing if you're a genuine star driver, but frankly, he isn't one (at this level). Also, remember that he left (was dropped from?) the Ferrari driver academy earlier this year, which hints to me that Ferrari don't have any intention of bringing him into their team. I'm really saddened for him, as he genuinely seems to be a really lovely young gentleman (and I picked that word specifically. There aren't as many of them around these days, and it's a shame. No, I don't want neckbeards to get any ideas! I'm talking about his behaviour in general). The grid is lacking in gentlemanly behaviour these days. There are some true gents, but nowhere near as many as there used to be. Mick was setting a great example for future racers (in any type of racing) on how to behave on & off track. I genuinely wanted him to succeed, but the writing was on the wall in Monaco, and it surprised me that so many people are surprised by his not getting a contract renewal. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But Mick was opposite.. he did have his good performances, but the amount of crashes in the 2 years would have seriously hurt Haas' development plans.. Plus the pressure from Gene Haas would be obvious.. KMag has his own demerits but has scored points on many occasions this season and capitalised on the good weekends better than Mick.. In favour of Mick, the strategic decisions from Haas haven't been top notch.. but on other occasions KMag did outperform him quite badly.. Hulkenberg is a proven midfield driver and is a very consistent point scorer and more importantly, crash resistant.. and Haas right now need consistent points rather than flashpoints to progress up the grid..

Easy answer: He kept crashing cars in an expensive way. Even worse than mazepin or latifi as far as how much damage to the car was done. Breaking muliple chassis each year in a team on the bottom half of the grid is not affordable if you arent getting regular podiums. It would be the same for Sauber. Zhou really impressed this year in reading the air/room despite me having a strong dislike for his home nation. Dont crash the car comes first, speed comes second. Its possible he actually thinks being related to a talented f1 driver has some genetic supernatural ability to give his tires more grip or something. This is how Nick Heidfeld and ironically, Nico Hulkenberg stayed in the sport despite not being superstars. To use a baseball analogy (a sport more similar to f1 than you'd think), when you learn you cant set world records for home runs, you learn to base hit. The former wins the glory, and the latter wins the game.
