My girlfriend recently moved down to my family’s farm from a Philly suburb and I’ve been using your black snake videos to get her ready for that inevitable first encounter she’s likely to have with one of these fellows.

My girlfriend’s from Ridley Park and I’ve done a lot of work up in Upper Darby and Darby over the past few years. Southwest Virginia must feel like a totally different world.

We have black and rat snakes at our summer camp. Gentle giants, and phenomenal mousers.

Hi Frank. AWSOME video. I love your videos on snakes. Especially black rat snakes. I love them. That one didn't kink up. Frank and Freda. Always kink up when I catch them. Last summer I caught several baby black snakes in my yard last summer. One in my basement. . Black snakes are welcome in my yard. Yesterday mowing. I saw a milk snake. By my wood pile. God bless Frank. Look at your mail box on Monday. . I converted my small garden into a wildflowers patch. Yesterday. For the butterflies and humming birds. This way I don't have to weed it. HA HA. . Your student Jeff 😊😊

Black rat snakes are awsome, but black racers are bueatiful but Fiesta. And they bite. I know because I catch them sometimes in my yard and they always try to bite me. But I always move them to saftey when mowing. My black rat snakes get drapped over my neck and they just lay there. And I take them to my wood pile and release them. I have them named. Frank, Freda. I had baby snakes last summer. 1 in my basement. God bless. Jeff

My son recently bought a house along with 5 acres in Southern Ohio and my word, we've found huge sheds from Black Rat Snakes all over the place. The biggest shed was in my sons' garage loft and based on that shed, I'm guessing the snake to be at least 6ft. We still have not been able to observe a live one but I know it will be any day now.

Hi Frank! I have really missed your videos. I love rat snakes too! My husband just finished his radiation! So many surgeries, the most intensive chemo therapy (schedule and the poison strengths) before the holidays last fall, all of the surgeries, scans and FINALLY we wait again haha he has to wait two months for a scan and then we will know if he is clear or if we start saying goodbye. Your videos, when I get to see them really take my mind off it all. Thank you for doing these and I will watch ALL of your snake videos soon! I REALLY hope to get caught up on all of your videos too.

Thanks for the video. I no longer live in a part of the country that has black snakes, so I haven't seen one in years. I like them. My problem when I see a snake in the wild is that I often reach for a still camera first. If I can start reaching before the snake is aware of me, I can get some pretty good pictures. I've often found myself not having the camera ready until the snake is already in a hiding place. I have rattlesnakes in my current place, and some of them will wait around until I get back with a camera. I've never had a bull snake have a strongly defensive reaction, but many of them have just moved too quickly for me to photograph. Several years ago, a young garter snake was willing to sit still while I got my camera ready.

Snakes don’t bother me….well…..except the one that decided to take up residence under my front door. I do know people that have a real terror of them though. I don’t know how people that have never really had contact with a snake get so terrified of them.

That's probably the reason they are afraid of snakes: they haven't had contact with them. They only know about them from scary movies and old wives tales.
