You keep referring to Bonus points, but your examples imply they are Preference points. Like you said Choice “A” should be those units that you are close to the odds of drawing. How can you get closer to drawing if they are just extra raffle tickets?
In Arizona they have what could be referred to as a modified bonus point system, Utah is the same. They give a portion of the permits for each hunt to the applicants with the most bonus points that apply and the other portion they offer in a random draw with your bonus points giving you additional opportunities to draw. Arizona refers to their points as bonus points.
I live in Arizona and always wanted to go hunting. I grew up in Michigan and never went there. All this does is make me not want to go hunting in Arizona because this is so confusing.
You and guys like you are the reason us residents are having hard time drawing tags, you think you're doing us all a service by providing everyone you're unit knowledge, how about keeping it too yourself for us resident sake!
When referring to hunting any national forest or other " federal " public land I've always wondered why the states have control and get the money. A person should be able to buy a hunting license from the federal government and hunt any land any season. Take the state out of the picture completely. I mean it's the people's land through the federal system not the states. Just saying that's the way it should have been from day one
Are you saying that I can't just buy a hunting license and go hunt what I want. I get that I wouldn't be able to mow down every animal in sight, but I can't even kill 1 elk without getting randomly chosen in some "raffle"?
Wait...(2:06) I have ABSOLUTELY applied two years in a row using the same hunting license. I'm actually going to do it again this year with my 2020 license. The only time this doesn't work is when the draw day "resets" and moves further out(due to the calendar moving the numerical date for the 2nd tuesday of Feb to a later date). The 2020 draw deadline was Feb 11th. The 2021 deadline is Feb 9th. My license I purchased for 2020 with a start date of Feb 11th is still good at the deadline? What gives with this incorrect information???
Hey Taylor. This is Trail replying back to you. As the rule reads, yes it must be valid on last day of the application for which you are applying. The deadline for elk in 2020 was Feb 11, the deadline for 2021 will be Feb 9. So in theory, if you purchased the license on Feb 10 - 11 in 2020 you could apply for elk on it. The bigger point, and perhaps I should have been more clear is that if you buy the $160 hunting license you should also use it to apply for all of the other species like deer, bighorn sheep, and even javelina which all have application deadline that end later in the spring. If you are indeed only interested in applying for elk/antelope it is possible depending on when you buy and apply. Apologies for any confusion, but we want to make sure everyone is making good use of their points in Arizona, and to do your years of life of applying justice. So my thought, if you are going to apply for elk and antelope and build points or apply, you should also apply for other species as well to get the most bang for your buck if you will. Yes, that definitely makes sense and it actually caused me to miss out on getting a deer point my first/second year applying because I didn't want so spend the "extra" $160 for just a deer/sheep point(I will likely never draw sheep). I just know there were some people who watched the video who questioned me about the 1 license=2 years worth of elk apps that I was telling them about when I recommended they put their name in the hat/accumulate points in AZ. So I guess, this post was just offering feedback on the video if you re-shoot for next year that it was a little confusing the way it was described in the video. Love your app/website!

When I click on link for "Arizona State Profile" you have table that is called "Species costs." I understand the "Elk" "Non-resident" cost of $665 but I was wondering what the "Over-the-Counter Elk" "Non-resident" entails for $650? Is this something I can purchase if I do not draw a tag? What areas is this good for vs the a draw tag? First time for me to ever think about hunting outside my state so curious why I would want to get into a draw system if over the counter tags are available. Thanks
The over the counter elk in AZ are the limited opportunity hunts. Areas where they're trying to prevent an elk population from being established. Usually low success rates.
I have applied under the same license as well as long as your license is valid the day of your hunt you’re good . did purchase another once I drew the tags but saves the purchase if you don’t draw it’s just how you purchase your license or the date really. I usually do it in august and it covers all my applications for the next year . I wouldn’t be able to tell you about non residents though
You can't draw for one species two years on one license. Because the license is good for 365 days, and it needs to be valid on the date of the draw. Yes, if it expires after the draw and before the hunt you can buy a new one and draw of it the following year.

Literally used my liscense I hunted with and killed my bull last season and just applied again with that exact same liscense obviously you don’t know your system it works based on hunter Id through online I don’t do paper apps
flyfishaz how about if you're caught in an area with no permit hunting you get a very hefty fine. Talking about the process not watching a road. What's wrong with first come first to get permits. Electronic entries would have a time so they would be in order.
@@timbow50 LOL! Do you have any idea how many people put in for elk in AZ? People think it is hard to get drawn now, how about NEVER getting drawn if it is first come first serve electronically. What if your internets is slow that day? Your phone dies? The power is out in your town? LOL!!!!
