I have this trimmer, running on the "low" power setting and 1/2 trigger pulI get over a hour ... you don't have to run the trimmer wide open to get the job done. I use the .080 trimmer line, it does the job.

Low speed for vinyl siding, plastic fences, bark. You can use it on high if you're talented enough, until you're not. I have an older B&D 20V specifically for those areas. As vinyl gets older, it gets more brittle.

While on the subject of heavy and run times I'd just like to say I have a Kobalt 24volt Max trimmer with a 4ah battery. The trimmer is very lite and I do all my trimming and blowing with one battery. And for the average home owner who maintains their yards it is plenty powerful enough to get the job done. I also have a 40volt Ryobi trimmer, yeah it has significantly more power then The Kobalt but all that extra power really isn't necessary for my trimming needs. I know one thing and that's The Ryobi is significantly heavier and will wear you out! I now use The Ryobi with a edger head only and The Kobalt for all my trimming.

Brief history. I purchased a B & D battery powered weedeater over 10-15 yrs ago at Hm Depot. Don't remember model but the packaging clearly stated up to a quarter acre of runtime on a full 8 hour charge. I charged it 12 hours as I really wanted to see what this baby could do. It ran about 10 mins before the rpm's really started to rev down. Quarter acre? My yard is small and this includes both front and back. I immediately returned it to Hm Depot and they were reluctant at first to take it back until I let them know I charged it overnight. I've used gas ever since but am considering battery powered as technology has improved (I hope) since my initial foray. Your video was informative.

Great review, but to be honest, I've been using the Ego line of products (string trimmer, edger, pole saw, hedge trimmer) for over four years. I did have to replace an old 7.5 Ah used battery I bought years ago with a new one. My 5.0 Ah (1) 2.5 Ah (2) and 2.0 Ah (2) are still chugging along.

I disagree on the battery time . I have the lesser version of this trimmer with the 2.0 ah battery , and I get plenty of run time out of the battery . I can do around my whole house , around 3 trees , carport , fire pit , whole dog run area , and along the dog pen fence ( about 400 feet ) and more ... I still have 2 bars left on the battery after all that . And a lot of that is thick weeds ! I would guess at least 30 minutes of actual run time . Probably could have gotten 45 minutes easy . .. I like it a lot .

I thought it was the camera playing tricks on me at first....I said damn..he makes that trimmer look tiny. As far as the water and line....I try to put my line in a gallon size zip-lock baggy with a little bit of water and that works well for me. I turned my Milwaukee trimmer into almost having a 18 inch cutting swath by making my own blade trimmer on the guard.... however by doing so I have to run .080 line to keep the power level up. Anyhoo...great vid brother

Maybe it's just me but all of these newer trimmers seem to have taken a huge step backwards with their string loading and feeding mechanisms. Manually threading lengths of string? Soaking the string in water before use? I'm starting to think I am spoiled. I've been using a 40V B&D trimmer for the past 5 years (LST136). I'm still using the same battery and I get 30-40 mins of runtime. It loads with a simple drop-in spool of string, self feeds and hasn't jammed once in 5 years. Oh yeah, and it was $150 with battery and charger ($68 bare tool). Three spools of string cost $12 on Amazon and each spool lasts all summer. I know B&D gets a bad rap on a lot of their stuff (usually deserved) but if this trimmer broke tomorrow I would buy another one.
@WorkshopAddict
@WorkshopAddict 4 года назад
Soaking string is good for any trimmer, old or new. The new loading is this way and it is simple. Keep what you have if you love it!

Just bought this in the L135 kit on sale from Home Depot, was on sale for cheaper than the low end Ego. Can't believe how much power this thing has compared to my old Stihl FS 38. I'd be hard pressed to find a gas trimmer with the same power for the same price
@johnossendorf9979

After 30+ years of running gas powered string trimmers that turn counterclockwise, clockwise would be very counter intuitive. Also, my trimmer for the last several years and my favorite of all time has been a extra long straight shaft Tanaka, about 10 inches longer than the standard shaft, so hearing that the 60v Toro is shorter than a standard straight shaft is a real bummer ! I was seriously considering the 60v Toro to get away from gas, but the clockwise rotation and more importantly the short shaft make it much less attractive ! Unfortunately it seems Tanaka is no longer making the extra long shaft version.

Toro also has a rear motor model with attachment capability. Not sure if the motor is any more powerful.

Great job on the review - I always look for your reviews first! I'm also 6'4" and would love the Stihl FSA 130 R but I need to stick closer to the $300-$400 range. Do you have any recommendations for a model with a longer shaft than the Toro?
@FSCMV6
@FSCMV6 4 года назад
So it seems like you are a bit underwhelmed on the whole? In terms of the battery trimmers you have tested that have a good complete ecosystem what would you recommend? Specifically I am looking to get into either Ryobi, EGO, or Toro. It seems like Toro wins the Snow Blower war vs Ryobi and Ego. It also seems like Toro is up there with the new 60V Mower. However, it seems that EGOs new mower is getting some stellar reviews as well. Where does Ryobi land across all 3 ? Trimmer / Snow Blower / Mower? Awesome content. -Thanks!
@WorkshopAddict
@WorkshopAddict 4 года назад
Ryobi is dead last in that race. Was I underwhelmed? Maybe. I like longer runtime and counter clockwise rotation. Other than that, this was great. Sometimes you expect more.

I have been mowing for 30 years. Always used gas power. Now I have retired, still wanted to stay somewhat busy. Purchased the Toro 60volt system. Fills my needs 3/4 lawns a day. One question. Can I let it get rained on or do I have to take it off my trailer racks if it’s going to rain.

Question is the RPM’s spec for cordless trimmer important to have. Like to be higher RPM’s to cut tougher weeds. For example a Black & Decker one model has 7200 RPM vs other model has 9000 RPM which is better for tougher weeds performance.
@WorkshopAddict
@WorkshopAddict 2 года назад
IMHO, The RPM listed is less important that the size string it will take. Most cordless trimmers are in the 6 to 7,000 range. In tough weeds, most will bog down. You need to motor to have the torque to keep a high RPM and the only way to tell that via the specs is the line size it will take. Anything limited to .080 is not good for you.
