The oil is to extract the flavour which are oil based compounds in the spices. It should be enough to do that. You braise the onions to brown them a bit to remove the water. For this you do not need oil. So, use oil sparingly. The gravy in the curry should not be oil based. Your body will thank you for that but you doctors may not like it because it means less visits to them.
She did say she's making a quick version of it but it feels like her cooking here is quicker than the road runner! 😂 I hope the inventor of chicken tikka masala didn't watch this before he left the world.
To be fair, they don't have time on the show to cook everything properly. She does say cook the onions for 5-10mins. They have such a short time slot on the programme.
They prep in advance, it's why you see two different pots, and it's how cooking shows have always worked. One dish, cooked to different levels so they can switch them out without having to spend all the time letting it cook while filming.
Amusing, but I'm afraid Tomato Soup absolutely does belong in a Tikka Masala, it was one of those "happy accidents!". Anyway not a fan of Nadia, everthing is "my" curry, "my" starter or "my" everything. Like we don't know she's a small army of economists, cooks & researchers: Insecure!
To be fair she should have had cooked out onions in a pan from this morning's home economics chefs. They have a team of cooks and chefs who can do the prep before her slot started and use that but she didn't. What on earth was the point if she was going to slop all the raw food in. It looks horrific. That isn't even a proper curry. She is a tv 'chef' aka cook who can't make a curry.
