Well this took far longer than I thought it would!! Getting one of the circlips out was a nightmare but got there in the end! Waiting for some bits to arrive such as the ABS sensor bolt and the upper ball joint so they'll go on when it all goes back together. Bearings themselves I actually got through an App called AutoDoc (not sponsored) so we'll see in time if they last. Also get around to doing the ball joint splitter giveaway too...yay!

Just fitted a new wheel bearing today. I wouldn't have even attempted it myself if I hadn't seen this video. I wouldn't have known where to start. Thanks!

Great video - nice to see closeups of the difficult and stubborn parts such as that circlip. Have to say you're a natural in front of the camera.

Hello Lee, I’ve now seen all the MGFT videos and learned a lot about how you do it and the tools you use. Deep respect for how you explain and show everything. It’s really a joy to watch them 😀 thanks a lot! I look forward to the restoration of the body 🧐

I was impressed you using that impact driver to remove the ball joint whilst on a Workmate, it looked so easy. I ground the ball joint down enough to get the socket over nicely (its taller on the rear ones), then put it on the floor and used a club hammer to bash the hell out of it until the balljoint came loose. that wasn't so easy!

How great it is to see what you do with all the parts of the MGTF! I learned a lot by watching the videos, thank you very much for that. I’m in the middle of restoring my 75 anniversary 1999 MGF and can’t wait to see more of what you are doing. And don’t forget to say that you make me really laugh sometimes 😊

Love the videos, keep them coming. Total respect for your effort - I live in Aus and just replaced my suspension, brakes, bushes on a NO RUST 1998 F! Doing the inlet manifold now and watched your great vid first. Not enough MGF/TF stuff around.

Many thanks Chris 👍 and top respect for the work you're doing/have done. Did you fit the soft ride suspension at all? Not decided which way to go with mine yet 🤔🚘

MGLee No, it has the Aussie set up (hydrogas removed) but I fitted the Mike Satur kit. A bit disappointed as it cost a lot and, even adjusted fully, has positive camber. Got to get it machined. These cars test us!

Hi Lee. I was quite impressed with the bearing extractor kit until I saw the thread damage. I just took mine to a local garage and they did the job for a tenner. (barkingdog from the forum)

Great as always, I had the joy of the strip down today and was going well until I realised I didn’t have a big enough socket for the upper ball joint and then nearly blinded myself trying to pop the caliper pistons out with an airline which popped off spraying air and brake fluid in my face. Top ball joint and bearing to do next.

Cheers Mark, yes I bet that was a tad alarming lol but so long as its gets the job done 👍🚘

What an absolute nightmare 😫 I need to do one of mine I'm now thinking to buy the whole hub assembly to save the stress. Mine is quite but apparently have play advisory on last couple of MOT s

I started to replace my bearings this weekend too on my TF actually 😅 Be careful using chrome bits, they can shatter when whacked. Try to use impact bits

Awesome job! I did it two years ago, with the hub placed at the car, not as pro as you with painting job, but I also remember that dam circlips!

Circlip was hard as you'd bashed the bearing into it; tap the bearing the opposite direction a little and it would be much easier.

I've been fixing up a '99 MGF here in Australia, they seem pretty rare and unknown here for the most part it seems. Few months ago I put the Mike Satur FCCKIT on and got rid of the hydragas - had a broken sphere and parts are hard to find here.

Superb video, you are an innovative and persistent guy! A few questions - how did you lock the stub axle to remove the lock nut (nut was already removed in video) also my workshop manual does not show the thrust (taper) bearing fitted to drive flange, you obviously replaced this as the video shows you removing but did not show re-assembly. What is the torque value for nut when re-assembling stub axle or is it just a 'feel' for the bearing rotation? Thanks again for a most informative and well produced video.
@wheatleysworkshop
@wheatleysworkshop 3 года назад
Thanks Paul. You can see the hub nut removal in the Subframe Strip Down video (used a screwdriver) and the hub nut should be tightened to 210Nm according to the manual. The bearing came apart when removed but was replaced with a new one.
@marcob32

Hi! Why didn't you put any grease (copper grease?) into the circlips recess (after cleaning them), between the outer side of the bearing and the inner side of the hub and between the inner side of the bearing and the outer side of the flange? Would it be a mistake? Anyway, thank you for the videos!!! Cheers!

27:15 looks s as if you`ve damaged the bearing tool set ? Didn`t see you do it, but lubricate any metal to metal interference fitting parts before you start pressing them together. I just wonder if the outside diameter of that cheap sealed bearing was in tolerance ? could that account for the excessive winding force you were exerting.
@tollietime
@tollietime 3 года назад
I'll assume you DID grease the inside of the hub and the bearing............if i hear a wailing screeching noise on the road i'll also assume its you lol
@stephengrahamriley
@stephengrahamriley 3 года назад
TF bearings come as a sealed unit they don't need greasing.
