@b747dude He's saying to "get the mechanical siren on the whelen" as in the Mech tone on the Whelen sirens...I could be wrong, but I'm 99% sure that's what he means.
lol i love this one....my old company had this...working for privates in nyc succcckkkkkssss and some of our busses where missing the man button....lol i wont mention the company name....but ill tell you one thing they have a bad rep...and the stupid pa system never worked
As for clearing traffic, it comes down to what people (general public) is not used to. The goal of a siren is to clear the way. My area, Central VA, Powercall is fairly new (some pieces of used apparatus out of PA have had them for a good while). So in general people move for Powercall where they would not without any other siren (electric or mechanical). I’ve seen Powercall plus the Rumbler and that really got people clearing a busy intersection. I’ve always said, but would hate to hear it, the European Hi Low would get people moving here. Again because it would be something no one was used to in anyway.
I hate this thing. In manual mode it rises and stops, but in radio mode it will coast as it should. In wail it has an abrupt change at the lower limit. Overall the sound is shrill and annoying to both vehicle occupants and pedestrians. All the ridiculous sounds other than wail, yelp, Power Call, and hi-lo make it sound like an arcade game not an emergency warning device. Give us back the PA-200 sound!
