I'm with you Rob, as a window cleaner the experience of how the customer treats you is also important. 99% of customers are awesome, but on the occasion when I'm made to feel disrespected it can just ruin the whole week and burden my thoughts. Those times I just politely walk away. We don't get paid to feel that way.

@@madcarew5168 my bro In law did all the maintenance work and happened to be quite good at fencing slabbing monoblock pruning all that type of stuff and the local shop owner (loaded with dough) asked him to do his garden that had got out of control. I took him down as he doesn’t drive with all his stuff in my van. Loads of work I was dropping him off and picking him up I asked how much you charging for all this a day and a half work he said £250 so I said phone a few places as if you’re the customer and tell them what he’s want you to do not 1 person was under 700 to do the work and that was going round on FaceTime showing them. Anyway he went back to Abdul and said I’m not doing this for 250 I’m want 500, Abdul” no no to much” so I started packing all the stuff up and says if you do this for 250 I’ll never speak to you again he’s taking the piss. My bro in law likes a drink so thinking extra beer money amd this Abdul knew he liked a drink so taking the piss out him. Hate some of them.

A grass cutter friend of mine cut grass for many years at one house without any problem. Then the home owner bought the house next door and asked my friend to cut that lawn as well. When he told them the extra cost for doing two gardens they could not understand why he wanted to suddenly charge twice as much. He tried to explain but they could not grasp the point that twice as much work costs twice as much. He never went back to that house. The occupiers, he a solicitor and her an accountant.

I have worked for myself for 45 years, and I have found over the last 5 to 6 years the self entitlement of people is unbelievable, I now price every job and email them the cost of the job, so they can’t say no we did not agree to that price, my regular customer I price increase the hourly rate every year and email the price increase, even with all that I still get them complaining about the cost or you could have just done that for free, my reply is please pay the bill, and don’t come back. Good on you.

Hi Rob, I don't blame you for getting rid of that customer. Personally, I would have rang him and told him that it's not my job to clean out bins. He may have had a shitty day and apologised. If not, you can tell him stick his job up where the sun don't shine but face to face "so to speak". Sometimes customer's need a reality check. One of my late father's favourite saying's was :- Familiarity breeds contempt ( extensive knowledge of or close association with someone or something leads to a loss of respect for them or it)

Worst customers are those who have more money than they should have. Fitted a kitchen at a half million pound house about 15 years ago, lady of the house asked me if i would like a coffe. I said thank you very much that would be lovely. Coffee turned up after five minutes in a washed out baked bean tin. The average working class are good payers and grateful when you do a good job.

Hi mate, just stumbled on your channel for the first time yesterday and I’ve subscribed. A lot of your videos seem very relatable to some of my own experience. This week I went to the second cut for a lady and she couldn’t grasp why weeding the boarders and trimming the hedges back wasn’t included in a £15 mow, blow and go lawn visit. I sometimes wonder if I need to manage expectations better, but then on the other hand I’d just like to think that when you agree a price for lawn mowing visit with somebody they realise that doesn’t mean a full garden renovation. Enjoying the channel anyway, keep it up!

Good on you. I think you're ex-RMC? If you've done 'Close protection work', you're not there to carry the bags! That's the butlers job. You understand where I'm coming from. Besides, the grass clippings belong to the customer, not you. You've cut and cleared the grass. It's the customers job to dispose of it, since a recycling site won't take 'commercial waste', especially from a van.

Avoid text comminication it sucks if you get a crappy text call them. 95% of the time it will be resolved amicably by a phone call. I've had customers spit fire by email but on the phone it's like a different person. Remember message communication is just pressing buttons on a machine. A voice call is direct with a human being.

I totally get this, Years ago as a builder I would give detailed estimates of quotes outlining the work and the process (probably giving too much information), most customers were great and stuck to the contract while others wanted more or, as another viewer has pointed out, the old "While your here can you just..." phrase was pulled out. In all cases I would whip out the estimating pad and start pricing up, 99.9% of those 'enquiries' ended there at just that. Some years later and I moved into Gardening and landscaping and my best 'liberty taker' was a customer who wanted to pay me in postage stamps, needless to say, I stepped away from that job leaving it open to someone else who might want to be paid under a feudal system.

Don’t communicate by text. It’s very easily misunderstood. Should’ve phoned or talked face to face. Very few misunderstandings when this happens. Or is it just that people are losing the art of clearly communicating because they rely on phone texts?

Nice one Rob. I think I had a narrow escape this week. I’d been round to see a potential new customer to look at the garden. I left things saying I’d phone with a date I could start. So anyway she phoned me a few days later, accusing me of not turning up, said several things that we’re questioning my integrity and ethics and to top it off said “ well all you do is cut grass” !! Unfortunately she’d confused the date and time I’d originally gone to quote on the garden as the start date of the work. I’m glad I’m not working for her even though I sadly can see someone taking advantage. She wouldn’t listen to a word I tried to say and just let rip. Final comment, the garden needs a heck more doing to it than just a grass cut.

Hi Rob, long time subscriber of the channel here, it is very easy for the tone to be off on a text and possibly they just wanted the bin emptying up the back again like before but they might not have known how to say. It is easy for lots to get lost in translation with a text so next time take a deep breath and call them if there is something iffy in a message just to check. It may not be the intention. But yes, you know the customer better than any of us and if they are still being disrespectful, get them tae f**k, hope they are easily replaced! all the best. ps do some videos on how to get a nice edge please

You provide a service of cutting grass. A good gardener is very hard to find. Cleaning bins or tidying up after the householder is NOT part of your service and it was the homeowner who "made a mistake" there. Your time is yours to choose. A line had to be drawn.

You did what I would do in that situation, sounds like he's penny pinching not getting the green waste bin.
