Want to hear a Joke At one of USSR's bread lines during the Perestroika, a man in the crowd is mumbling to himself. "No bread, no milk, no meat, what a shame". Two policemen walking the beat hearing his mumbling walk up to him, and say: "Citizen, if you said that 40 years ago you'd be shot, so just shut up and stand in line like everybody else" As the policemen leave, the man turns back to the crowd and says: "Not only we don't have bread or milk, but I was just told we ran out of bullets too."

Actually, we'd after to go even further back. See, in the 1860's, when the USA found itself emashed in a civil war, there existed a concern that other nations would interfere in out politics, most importantally in preference to the CSA. See, Russia was one of those powers at the time that not-so secretally supported the USA, including welcoming their navy to be in our habors. This connection was so important to the Unuin cuase that the US Secreatary of War, Gideon Welles, went so far as to say: "God Bless the Russians" This fealing did not end when the US civil war ended, as seen by a 1871 US dipmatic mission by Olivier Wendel Homes to Russia, commented: Bleak are our shores with the blasts of December, Fettered and chill is the rivulet’s flow; Thrilling and warm are the hearts that remember Who was our friend when the world was our foe. Fires of the North in eternal communion, Blend your broad flashes with evening’s bright star; God bless the Empire that loves the Great Union Strength to her people! Long life to the Czar! " This bonds whould coninue to grow, parually from mutual admiration, bolsterd by concerns for the same great powers (France & G.B), that me these countries so close together. The Tsars were known to have positive fealings for the US. These dealings lead to sale of Alaska in 1867, only a few years following the end of the civil war. The paths seem to be have parralles also, as the reforms brought on by the Russian Empire gave additional fredoms to the serfs starting in 1861, the same time anti-slavory ferver had brought the Abolioshonist, 'radical-Republican', Lincoln to be sworn in as the 16th President of the United States. This is why the scare in 1917 had such a effect on the US, as if Russia could fall to such a revolution, not only did the US stand lose such a close and stowerd friend, it was also forbodin, as it was possible for such a revoluton could happen here also. It didn not hep when some people with the 'soviet' doctrine sought to spread the idea though reolvutions overthrowing goverments allover the world, including the USA. The possibility seemed all to real for some, which brought some to demand constant vigilence stand, less the US should fall to subversives from within. Though out US history, from 1917 on, anytime a reform was not liked it was tearmed as 'socialism". FDR's New Deal was branded by some in that light, even though it sought to give work to people with WPA, restore faith in the banks with FDIC providing backing to citizesn should moeny held in the banks fail, and Social Secruity. Many of these changes have long been seen as part of the bredrock of the USA, but at the time were seen by some concervatives as being bad and anti-buisness. These same concerns continue to this day. New terms have been used to refer to the politics, to avoid the problamatic risk of being tar-and feathered with anytierm that could relate to 'socialism' or communisim. Sure, we are not running scared of the picibility their could be a socalist somplace, pushing for revolution, but the concern exist all the same, making any word connected to it to be deamed in a varry negitive light, akin to calling somone a 'Nazi', though on the other wise of the political spectrum.
Nazis were also a dictatorship and have always been next to Marxism on the left of the political spectrum. Just because recently academia has lied and changed the history of Nazi Germany to make it "right wing" does not make it fact. The real facts are this ; Dictatorships are increased power governments (left wing), and by definition, limited power governments (right wing) never have dictators.

Sadly, the US's preoccupation with panicking about Communism and ranting about anything to the left of Mussolini also led to some of problems further down the line. Using it as an excuse to overthrow democratically elected left-wing figures such as Mohammad Mosaddegh and Salvador Allende and the installation of authoritarian puppets, which led to stuff like the Islamic Revolution of 1979, large death tolls, an over-reliance on neoliberal economics in parts of the western world and the like.

The sometimes irrational fear of communism was overused by a lot of ambitious businessmen and politicians. If you wanted to oppose something, just claim it was related to communism and it would lose all credibility in the public eye. All you had to do was accuse something or someone and that's all it took to weaken them. It justified many atrocities, meddling in foreign affairs, going to senseless wars, and possibly facilitating assassinations of influential figures like Kennedy and MLK because their efforts would undermine America's anti communist efforts (yes, I do believe they could have gone to those lengths). The last 50 years have been one big disaster because of this, those in charge were so staunch in their anti communist position that they were prepared to push any agenda regardless of the flaws just to sell it as a better system than communism, they doubled down on capitalism refusing to acknowledge that it would cause major class divisions over time, they gave free reign to big businesses to exploit their workforces to increase their bottom line, they allowed the real estate market and education costs to become over bloated to the point where it is unaffordable to most common people. All of this was in the name of propping up capitalism as not just the better way but the only way and here were are now suffering the consequences of that while those who perpetrated it are living happily with everything they managed to extract from the broken system they created before it became impossible for those today to do so. Is communism bad? of course it is, people will always have ambitions and will corrupt even a perfect system to serve their own ends and thus the system will always fail in execution. But then, the same can be said for capitalism only it's much easier to do it openly. Is capitalism a failed system? Let's ask a different question, would you consider a system where people working full time cannot afford basic needs successful? No, but that's what we got. Is there a perfect system? No, but it doesn't mean we can't try to find one, even moderate improvement is still progress and that's what we need right now. We don't need to glorify capitalism, we don't need to condemn or embrace communism, socialism, or any political system, we just need to look at ourselves, recognize what's wrong, and change it for the better.

I'm a fan of your channel and it produces very engaging content and I wait for your videos to come out. Recently I have had problems with your content about the USSR et al. and Left-Wing ideologies. I really want your channel to continue to do well for as long as it can! I feel that if you took time to directly engage with the sources of the ideologies and dedicated yourself to getting a thorough understanding of the ideologies that it could greatly improve the detail in quality of your content. Perhaps this could even be applied to other ideologies that pop up throughout these kinds of historical things. I see people want to learn more about history when they are given some knowledge (just a little etc) about the environment that helped influence it. Given that you are a good writer and presenter, I feel that you could really be able to help people access the behind-the-scences forces of history. I hope that you at least glance at this comment, thanks. p.s. Communism is a stateless, classless, moneyless society in which the means of production are owned in common. The Socialist states of the 20th Century were Socialist but *run* by Communist Parties, and this was the cases b/c Communists basically view it like so: ....Capitalism -> Socialism -> Communism.
Finally someone who gets it 🙌👏🙏. I'm a fan too but he clearly blasts his political views by attacking all left wing ideologies marking them as all the same bad thing without reason or any real proof. He glosses over America's sins like we're some bastion of equality when even then in the 50s, the soviet union treated minorities and women as equals. The ussr was the first country to allow women to hold non pink collar jobs and even let them serve in the military on the front lines. And African Americans have testimonies stating they're treated much better over in the ussr(obviously, probably every country in the world treated them better). Hell there was even a proposed idea to make the first Jewish state in the world. Yea the ussr had its faults but most of them where during stalins rule. Most forget the ussr wasn't a totalitarian state after his death. Had Trotsky been the leader the ussr would have been looked back on alot more positively. The sins of stalin discredited communism/socialism. After the fall of communism in the former USSR, many countries went down their own paths abandoning the soviets ideology for capitalism like China or Fascism like North korea. Ironic if u ask me. Vietnam, Laos, Cuba are the only countries that follow leninist socialism. Could go on and on about all the genocides America is responsible for, mainly the one in Guatemala, but I made my point. The point is, Cody is right wing poisoned by the propaganda The US has been pumping out. The accomplishments the USSR made in its short 69 years is far more impressive than any other country to date for the most part concerning statistics.
Actually the American ruling class first became scared of communism with the Great Railway strike of 1877. They saw it as another attempt at a Paris commune.
“In short, communism is state provided goods and services without any proper ownership” Wrong. There is no state in a communist society, Vladimir Lenin is quoted saying that the revolution of 1917 brought Russia to a transitional stage called “State Capitalism,” the end goal, a world revolution where in which the state eventually withers away.

@@AnnoNymus 50s were definitely not good for everyone, there were tons of situations in satellite countries in the late 50s where they tried revolting against the soviets and faced extremely brutal consequences, stalin was still carrying out purges until his death in '53, I would say around 1960 until 1979 when the soviet-afghani war began was considered truly the good times for the general soviet populace. maybe for someone living in western russia in the 50s it was relatively okay, but for the rest of the states it wasnt by any means good at all, by the late 80s many soviet states broke off from the union and the afghanistan war marred the rest in immense debt, it was one of the leading factors to the unions collapse, along with chernobyl in '86
@@Gameprojordan i was talking about soviet people, not satellite states. Stalin's postwar purges were tame and didn't really affect the general populace. The Afghan war wasn't initially unpopular. As far as communist sympathizers in media, about ten years ago I visited an open house at the New York Film Academy. Near to the top of a wall, someone had painted a quote about entertainment made by V. I. Lenin. If that wasn't enough, the artist included St. Basil's Cathedral and Lenin in his usual pointing pose. I still kick myself for not bringing a camera with me.
Communism isn't bad, or at least it isn't meant to be. Maybe if you look into the different parts of communism like stalinism then there could be an argument but overall communism is actually good. Dictators (such as Stalin) gave it a bad name when they used it as a front and an excuse for their villainous, selfish actions.
a Communist Takeover almost happened during the great depression because During the Great Depression, many Americans became disillusioned with capitalism and some found communist ideology appealing.
+Robomerc What nonsense are you spewing? Communism was never _close_ to a takeover in the US -- Wall Street's goons weren't allowing socialism to gain a foothold, let alone communism. Rather, what probably _did_ almost take place in 1933-34 was an attempted fascist takeover by American _capitalist_ financiers and industrialists (JP Morgan, DuPont, Singer, etc.) who were fearful that socialism was emerging in US society . Retired Major General Smedley Butler exposed the plot after he was approached and asked to lead the coup d'état against Franklin D. Roosevelt and our Constitution. Talk about revisionism, bud. Sort of like this RU-vid channel...yet another Wall Street propaganda pipeline. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Plot
The biggest problem with the Red Scare is that it still persists today; any form of socialism or socialist policies, like Universal Healthcare, are labelled as communist and people go running scared away from it. Hell, you can hear it everywhere online today, with people throwing around the phrase "Cultural Marxism" at those who suggest that gender is a spectrum (because treating trans people like any other human is somehow communist now?). Not to mention, very few people who complain about "Cultural Marxism" have actually *read* what Marx's work say. He advocates the workers owning the means of production, not the state, along with a more equal distribution of wealth in accordance to each person's needs. In addition, people who say "Communism doesn't work" as a retort against criticism of Capitalism seem to forget that Capitalism DOESN'T work for everyone. One only needs to look at present day US and see people getting into thousands of dollars of debt just because they needed medical attention at a hospital, or the veterans who are homeless on the street while landlords make big bucks off people who need somewhere to stay. I'm not advocating for Marxist-Lenninism or Stalinism. What I am saying is that we shouldn't be so concerned with Communism that we let rampant Capitalists erode our human rights.
0:46 First off socialism is a society where the production and exchange and goods and services are owned by the people as a whole which itself is the government.
Why do I see a lot of parallels between the Red Scare then and how we treat "nazis" now? Calling anyone and everyone one, even if they aren't, and having that accusation carry a lot of weight even if unproven? All we need to do is look at Pewdiepie. Not actually a nazi, but labelled as one, and a lot of people are determined to ruin his career.
One big difference. Unlike today were those accused of being "Nazis" rarely are, during the Red Scare there were a sizable amount of ACTUAL COMMUNISTS throughout all sectors of society, most notably Hollywood unions.
Lmfao, the difference is that at the time the people actually lost their career for falls accussations 💀 pwediepie is a multimillionaire, where tf did he loose anything.

Russia's First Atomic Test (August 29, 1949) and the People's Republic of China's founding (October 1, 1949) were in the same year.
