I love the love you verbally give "your dear cameraman," and I love these close up shots!! Most RU-vid gardeners don't share the spotlight well with their shrubs, trees, and flowers, but you do an excellent job of making the plant the feature while still looking spectacular and brimming with joy and excitement! 🎉❤💮 I prefer hydrangeas and azaleas to roses, but the more I watch your channel the more I'm itching to pull the trigger on my first rose purchase!! Thank you again for sharing your beautiful garden with us all. 😊🌱🌹
Awww, you are welcome! I like sharing my garden with everyone. My back yard is so secluded that many passer byes don't even know that beautiful roses are growing there. Happy gardening!
OMG thank you so much for this gorgeous and beautiful tour of your garden! You have given me so many ideas. My lot size is small but the Town owns the land behind my house which makes my lot look much bigger. I’ve never thought to make a garden den at the end of my lot. And I love the trellis or valance or whatever you call them that u use for your climbers. You are very talented.
Olga I just love how you enthuse over your roses and I never tire of watching you, they should name a rose after you for sure you. I am in the UK I might just have to start collecting David Austin roses you are inspiring me, and I love the weekly walkabout too, thankyou for showing us around your wonderful garden, also I like the look of the new project I'm sure it will be a winner..
Olga, you are such a tonic with your delightful enthusiasm and optimism. You are like a Ukrainian Anne of Green Gables! It is a joy to watch all the greenery and beautiful roses with the sweet sound of birds in the background. It is winter here in Australia and the sight of your burgeoning garden is a lovely escape from grey skies and rain. I look forward to seeing your finished project with the gorgeous climbing rose.
Awww, thank you Martine! I am glad that my garden can brighten your Australian winter days. I am a bit intimidated how that "project" will be looking, but I am determined to wiggle through mistakes and make it work.
Thank you for the lovely video Olga! I bought the Shropshire Lad rose the same time as you. Mine only bloomed twice the first year, but the blooms were so gorgeous that it's totally worth any downsides. It didn't grew much during the season, so I was a bit underwhelmed with it. This early spring my husband and I moved it to another location in the garden and what we found out is that it put all of its energy into developing roots. They were humongous and so strong that we struggled to take it out. If yours is still looking somewhat small, it's probably because it's doing the same thing as mine, which is putting a lot of strong roots. As I live in a colder zone 5 I was so scared that it may not survive the winter (mine is grafted) that I took a cutting and propagated another one on own root. My experiment was successful and now I have another own root Shropshire lad. So happy! 😊
Yes, Shropshire Lad is slow, which is fine with me. I really don't like slow beginnings, but I know that plant is working hard on establishing all that root system, as you said. Well, next year I will see the blooms, I still have to build a support for those climbers there.
My Lady of Shalot had her first bloom today 🎉. She is lovely and exactly the same as yours, which were the inspiration behind this purchase. I'm sure I will mot be disappointed 😊. Thanks for sharing your garden and your knowledge. Happy gardening 🙋♀️
Sending heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all those affected by the terrible fires in Canada. We are sadly all too familiar with the devastation associated with bush fires in Australia ❤
Weekly updates are great because the garden changes every week. Your garden is looking so beautiful. My roses are starting to bloom now and we finally got some rain. I had a mystery surprise in my white, pink and blue garden which I did not plant. Some yellow daylilies that are in a nearby garden. Must have been the birds. Bonny
Oh, we live in the middle of the town with all the neighbors having fences and no so big of gardens, so deer are rarely here. I see them maybe once a year...
I absolutely adore your roses!!! I enjoy watching your channel so very much! It’s a feast for the eyes! I was wondering what the name of the pink climbing rose is in your front yard? I think that is absolutely beautiful!!! I would like to get one myself! I’m so excited because I ordered my first David austin roses which should be delivered in the next month or two they are the Olivia roses I think they are so sweet and beautiful!! Anyway I adore watching and listening to you and greatly appreciate all your helpful advice on roses. I would greatly appreciate if I could learn the name of the pink climbing rose in your front yard I adore it! Thank you! 💖🌹🌸🌿
Hi there, congratulations on your roses! Olivia is a great disease resistant rose, you are going to love it! As for the rose in the front of my house. It is Eden rose, the pink variety and it is growing near the entrance of my house. Happy spring!
Olga i just love you! I love your personality and love of gardening! You get so excited and it makes me smile and chuckle . I would also get this excited if I had your beautiful garden. You made me laugh when you saw the red rose at the base of the generous gardener. The shock and horror on your face was so funny bless you. I was looking very closely at the generous gardener on your low fence and looking how you managed to keep it so low without it falling everywhere , as you know I have a lot of problems with the vigour of mine. It's so interesting to watch how you train your roses. May I ask what beautiful rose you have going over the entrance into your back garden above the huge hosta please? X
Haha, I figured out the story with my red little rose mystery - it is Aloha roots sprouted after 3 years being dormant. And that is the climbing rose I have over the side arch to the back of my garden. Happy gardening!
I have a burgundy iceberg rose and I recently learned that sometimes some of that rose type's blooms can be white like its white iceberg parent or have partial white. Very interesting. I wonder if yours is making a red bloom color from dominant genes from one of it's parents. ?
hm, those mutations will be on the plant. My red "surprise" is separate plant, just growing there. I am starting to think it is Dr. Huey which set in the soil for 3 years and now decided to grow. But thank you for your suggestion.
The Desdemona rose is such a strong scented rose, I’m surprised that you find it a light scent, I’m just waiting for them to re stock the standard tree version
First time watching. I also use the garden companion combination of tall salvia or nepita (blue) Staches Byzantium (lambs ears) and roses. My roses are more l like red carpet, and peach/orange/yellow. I really love the baby pink-to-white combinations you have.
Welcome to my channel! Yes, I was walking the other day in my garden and thought that pinks and whites are all over the place. Time to introduce some other different colors. Happy gardening!
You’re awesome! I love your energy and the knowledge you have of plants in such a deep level. You remind me of an Ukrainian friend I had long ago and the people of the Ukrainian community near where I live- my son studied piano with Daria Karanowicz- have you heard of her? 💖
Great video to watch with my morning coffee and inspire me to get out in my garden, thankyou. What was the name of the climbing rose over your archway?
Beautiful garden. I am currently re assessing my garden and removing some large shrubs and trees. I want to introduce some more colour in certain areas and also mindful of lowering maintenance. We have a lot of hedges that need cutting. I would love to replace them with fences but it would be very expensive.
So fun seeing your garden in bloom. My roses are finally starting to open. Of course, Olivia Rose is first. 😊 Emily Brontë, James L. and Teasing Georgia are not far behind.
Oh my, yes, I intend to use that structure for my Eden rose. I think that in your hot climate it over performs itself. My cold winters will keep it in check.
Olga, your garden and roses are just gorgeous and I really enjoy watching your videos. I am curious if you struggle with Japanese Beetles on your roses there and if so, how do you protect your roses from them?
Hi Jill, I made a video about those pests -studio.ru-vid.compUcyOuZYo2M/edit My struggles are small, I try to have very healthy soil and that looks like minimizes all the infestations in my garden.
My Lady of Shallot is just budding up! I bought her bc of your beautiful one. 🥰 Hello from Edmonton, Alberta - my province is on fire 😢 sorry about the smoke. PS. Alberta has a large Ukrainian population!
Oh, all that fire... Stay safe! You are going to love Lady of Shalott, I am curious if it will be changing its bloom color in your colder zone as it does for me...
Beautiful garden! A dream of mine to have such an oasis! I have been looking to buy lady of shallot, generous Gardena, and some yellow and possibly fragrant roses for s couple of years with no luck. Would you be willing to ship the small rooted cutting or tell us where you buy them from? Current prices are between $32-65, and it seems outrageous to me. Tell me how or where to fine these plants locally. I am in northern Virginia.
DA roses are hard to find locally, your best bet is to order them online at DavidAustin website. Shipping is usually in spring as bare roots. It is really convenient.
I’ve heard stories about vigorous root stock living in the ground and never showing but suddenly after many years it reappears. It’s a common characteristic among invasives. To bad the plants we love aren’t more like this, right!? 😅
Slava Ukraini! Roses will bloom in Ukraine again and war will be over! And you will get a big collection of roses in your garden and will be totally addicted!
Please help sos! I just received my Julia child rose from shipping out of Mississippi to Pennsylvania and I came in with black spots and fungus all over. Please help if anything can be done to save it. Btw I really love your videos and your garden. Love your positive energy ❤️
I have been using 2 and a half cups water to 1 cup white vinegar...I add a teaspoon of clear Dawn....roll the bottle do not shake...spray on later in day or early before sun...it has not harmed the roses...I use it on all my David Austin's and some others ...the rabbits don't like the taste of the vinegar either....I prefer this to neem oil...maybe it will help....credit to a nice gentleman You Tube gardener who suggested that...
Good suggestion about vinegar, I should try it and see the results. Give your rose some shade and rest, don't put it on the strong sun, maybe very dappled shade. Airy space should help too. That was not a reputable shipping company. Your rose is going through transportation shock. Make sure she is well hydrated.
Thank you 🙏 they gave me a refund but I still want to try to rehabilitate it, breaks my heart just throwing it in the garbage. I cut off all the mouldy parts and so far it hasn’t come back 😅 Love your videos and advice!!! I am new to this channel and slowly learning helpful things about growing roses. You have inspired me to introduce a climbing rose to my garden ❤ 😊
@@OlgaCarmody you don’t know what you don’t know! When you with other gardeners you can learn sooo much! Enjoy! The Extension Service has so much to offer! On March 24 we will have Dr. D. Tallamy at the Rutgers Mercer County Symposium. He came here a long time ago. He’s great 😊 Congratulations MG! Now you can start earning your 1000 hr badge!
Thank you for another relaxing and informative video sharing your gorgeous, lush front yard!🌸🌹🌺 I wanted to comment about the one red rose you had growing beside your own root rose. Yes, I have had “knockout” roses come back to life after complete die back and I thought I had lost them. Even though your situation was a transplant, if there was any of the root left, it might’ve grown back from that. They are so resilient!!! 🌹🌹🌹 I’m curious, did it keep growing and what did you figure out?
