Because on their era, it's not really common unlike now. Offense, skills, and athleticism got better as time goes by together with gaining knowledge by watching or analyzing past players. But I won't take any credit to Jordan as he really is the Greatest Player of their era though...

Today's players are more worried about personal legacy then they are about winning. I feel like players back in the day just had a different mentality that accompanies athletics. Now it's all about branding and resumes. I appreciated sports more when it was more about the artistic nature of athletics and the competive drive to be a champion, not so much about the leagues they play in. I like basketball, but I don't like the NBA. Same for football and baseball and what not. That is probably why I don't really root for my teams anymore. Just good quality games in general. Who wins or loses doesn't matter to me anymore. Just good sports.

"God disguised as Michael Jordan" - Larry bird.
@markbouquet1316
@markbouquet1316 Год назад
MJ wasn’t a 3 point shooter at the time which kills me only to hear a guy say “we didn’t play MJ today. We played God disguised as MJ.” Larry Bird is the second best player I’ve ever seen. Kobe was great but he was MJ junior and never had a chance to play MJ until he was slowing down. But the guy still got 45/50 points when he came back to the Wizards! Lebron can play a great game but you’re a damn fool if you want to make sure he gets the ball for the tie or winning shot. Jordan was too fast for him and he played in a soft league. I wish Steve Kerr would sit him down and tell him the truth. He wasn’t a wuss. He had to play in a league that would break your legs to keep you from scoring. Now they play in the “no touch league” so they can protect their investments. MJ’s second season when he broke his foot felt he could come back before the end of the year. I was going to see his surgeon at Northwestern who told him, “If you had a headache and I had a bottle of 10 pills but one would kill you (or was laced with cyanide. I can’t remember which one he said) MJ said, “It depends on how bad the fuckin’ headache is.” This was said because MJ felt fine but the doc said you’re 90% healed but there’s still a 10% risk of rein-jurying your foot and is it worth ruining your career over? Had MJ not played, they likely would have been a lottery pick team but winning meant more to him. How many games have you seen Lebron pass the ball at the end of the game instead of driving the lane and ending up at the free throw line? Too many to count. He IS A HORRIFIC FREE THROW SHOOTER. He’s a powerful man and driving the lane is his game. As for being the all time leading scorer. If MJ played the second season and didn’t (in my opinion) leave basketball for nearly 2 years over gambling, then kept playing on crappy teams when the idiots running the team were going to rebuild when they were still at the top of the hill, if they Celtics could do it so could the Bulls. Now that Jerry Reinsdork made his money the team blows almost as bad as the Bears. We need owners that want to win again and unfortunately Reinsdork doesn’t care so I quit going and watching. You can’t watch the best two teammates in the world win like they did and then sit through this again. MJ saved the franchise which an indoor soccer team was OUTDRAWING THE BULLS! He made the sport an international phenomenon. Not Magic, not Larry, not Kobe who got his approach to everything from Michael, and not Lebron. Maybe he was an ass ir he just expected everyone to give 100% every practice AND GAME and some just were too soft. I think he was an ass to Will Perdue for one and I don’t think bringing Bill Cartwright to the Bulls for Charles Oakley helped MJ at all. I may be wrong. But they were tight as friends and when you’re good at something like MJ was, others tend to watch your greatness and forget they have to be ready for whatever may come. But unlike Lebron who went to already stacked teams, MJ stuck it out with a terrible team for quite a few years. I have no doubt that had he changed teams like Lebron did, it would be him that held the scoring title too. Outside of Bird, he will always be the greatest to lace them up. I hate hearing he treated people like crap when his fans loved him so much but I sure liked those rings which had he not left to play baseball, would have been 8 in a row.

I think what Larry said really cements his place as a true legend and genius of the sport. His greatness helped him recognize greatness. Only someone as good as Larry could have any true comprehension of just how good Jordan was. And it doesn’t matter how many points Lebron scores or how many rings he gets. He will never be the NBA goat, because the nba only exists because of magic and bird, and it was catapulted to where it is now because of the iconic mj. The effect they all had on the nba and the game cannot be replicated or topped. I’d put Kobe ahead of him too. He’s a great player. But he’ll never be ahead of these guys.

The team was void of talent. The Bulls averged 28 wins for two years before he got there. If that team was any good how come the roster was compleletly flipped within in two years. Here is who usually win, the team with the most talent. If talent doesn't matter forget the draft and just grab guys from the park district. The rest of the team shot 31 percent mainly because Woolridge his "star mate" went 9 for 27. Jordan shot 55 percent. If Woolridge makes just three more shot 42 percent the Bullls win by one. @RepentOrPerishL133
@RepentOrPerishL133 5 месяцев назад
In an interview Magic felt he had more years left in him. He actually felt he could have won another ring or two. He didn't turn 31 until the fall after they lost in the finals to the Bulls. Isaiah Thomas turned 29, 29, 29 the spring when the Bulls swept them to go to the finals. This narrative the Magic and Pistons were old doesn't fly especially when MAGIC DIDN'T BELIEVE that. Bird was injured. He retired the following year. He was about 33 or 34 but he still put up good numbers at 19 ppg. Reggie Lewis was the rising star for that them. If the Celtics had held homecourt, it would have been the Bulls and Celtics in the Eastern conference finals and not the Pistons. It's simple, the Bulls and Celtics peaks never lined up. When the Celtics were at their peak, the Bulls was in thier second year of construction. When the Bulls were peaking the Celtics were in decline. You just saw in the video the Bulls won 30 games.

As good and powerful as King James is, and he might be the GOAT for all he can do, MJ and Larry are in a different type of ranking. The mental game that they had and used, when added to their skills puts those two in a different building. Who else even comes close?
@alx767
@alx767 Год назад
Lebron not even close, Lebron cares about himself, too many turnovers and if he had played in this era it would have not been so easy to score like in the current era.

If we went by sheer numbers, Lebron is the GOAT but I know he isn't. There is much more to the game than numbers. Lebron might make my all time top 20 list. Even so, it would not be a list of my favorites. I do not like watching Lebron play basketball. He is so fundamentally flawed but he plays in an era where he can get away with things Jordan never could.

@@user-rt4zz9lk8e Actually they do NOT use longevity as a valid stat, if that were true then Kareem would have been the GOAT. per game stats tell a little better story but if the ultimate goal is champions and then you combine accolades there is no one close to Jordan.

@@ralphcousins4701 You would be wrong. If you say championships are the measure of greatness, Bill Russell has 11. He is not a better player than Jordan though.

I bet if you created a list of “best performance by a player” in each of all basketball courts in the NBA, Jordan would be listed alot.

People shit on this era 80s-90s but they actually played defense. Theres a reason why scores are much higher today, with little defense and zero hand checking. Much harder to score back then

But of course the bronsexuals would come back with there wasn't a single player around that could have hand checked lebron because he was to big and strong for anyone.. you even had bronsexuals say if he played center at 6 ft 8 he could have guarded the top centers... IE they say once he puts his body into you hes so big and strong that he would have knocked any of those centres off balance with ease.

My memory is only fair, but, unless I'm mistaken, if this game was played in 1986, the Celtics were not defending champions. My memory is the Celtics won it all in 1984, and I believe won again in 1986. But, again unless my memory is faulty (which it certainly could be), the Lakers won it in 1985. If my memory is wrong, and someone wants to correct me, please do. I've haven't looked this up, I'm just using my memory.

To be clear, the Bulls almost won this one 2OT game. Jordan was amazing all 3 games and gave the Celts and the world a glimpse of the future. Celts swept the Bulls in 3 versus the 30 - 52 8th seed.

Man he took 41 shots...n went to the line 21 time..n hit 19..imagine if a real shooter like Bird or steph curry..or better yet a high percentage guy like Barkley or Shaq or Benard King or Wilt Chamberlain took the same amount of shots..its not hard to score the ball if u keep shooting n have a green light to take as many as u want to win or lose..look at Pete Maravich at LSU, shock out his numbers n then add on thr fact that it wasn't any 3 pointers then..lol..like stop the shenanigans. Just like the 81 kobe game..David Robinson's 71 or David Thompson or plenty of George Gervin's 60+ pt games were more impressive because they were actually hot n wasn't missing or forcing shots up..

False. It's tough to score 60 even if you take 40 shots. Even if you score 50 percent on 40 shots that's only 40 points. Shooters like Bird or Steph not getting to the line that much because they're avoiding contact. Jordan scored 63 on 22 of 41 (53.7 percent from the field) and 19 of 21(90 percent) from the line, including 2 free throws late to force OT. But he also added 5 rebounds 6 assists 3 steals and 2 blocks also. Keep in mind the 2nd best guy on the Bulls, Woolridge, went 9 for 27 (33 percent) from the floor. Charles Oakley went 3 of 5. So let's not make it seem Jordan was shooting just to shoot he had to in order to give The Bulls a chance. Also keep in mind he led the team in assists as well.

Yet he did not win. Bird was humble, but the factor here where more who is the winner for the team and who is a good individual. Jordan had his great moment, as Bird and many before have had. Yet Bird and his team defeated him, becuase Bird made everyone better. Its a testament how good Jordan was ofcourse, but it is also a testament how good Bird was.

The facts are the facts, Jordan was just personally built by himself to be the best at anything he wanted to be. No one can match what he did, they might be better at one thing, but as a complete player, MJ=GOAT. Don't come at me with Lebron this/that. IDC, 6 for 6, and countless games where he never said die, despite his teammates in his early career or later career MJ just kept being MJ.
